After accidentally revealing the news to a handful of trade publications on earlier this week, Weigel Broadcasting and Warner Bros Discovery (Wbd) formally announced the forthcoming launch of their classic cartoon television network MeTV Toons on Thursday.
The channel will debut in June on broadcast stations across the country and on free, ad-supported streaming television platforms, and will include dozens of classic animated series like “Tom & Jerry,” “The Flintstones,” “Johnny Quest” and “Scooby-Doo.”
MeTV Toons builds off a Saturday morning cartoon block that has aired on Weigel-owned MeTV for several years now, which consisted primarily of animated shows from Warner Bros. MeTV Toons will expand on this idea by incorporating other Warner Bros series into the mix, along with shows from Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony’s Columbia Pictures and others.

If you’re a fan of Mel Gibson’s classic action flicks, be sure to stream them before they leave Max at the end of August.
All four “Lethal Weapon” movies and “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,” starring the late, great Tina Turner, will be leaving the streaming service. Luckily, you’ll have all month to watch them.
Watching the new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” animated movie in theaters? Max has several films featuring the radical reptilians: the live-action “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze” (1991)
and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III” (1993), as well as the animated “Tmnt” (2007).
Kaiju fans will want to check out “Godzilla” (2014), “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), “King Kong” (1933) and “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” (2012).
Finally, if horror is your thing, six “Hellraiser” films and “The Ring Two” make great summer scares.
Here’s everything leaving Max in August 2023

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.
Watch the “Full Circle” trailer:
The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

A24’s acclaimed stop-motion/live-action hybrid “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” could be the wild card in the animated feature Oscar race — going up against such early favorites as Pixar’s “Turning Red,” Disney’s “Strange World,” and Netflix’s two stop-motion behemoths: “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” and Henry Selick’s “Wendell & Wild” (the latter being the lone animated feature premiering at TIFF).
And why not? The feature debut from director Dean Fleischer Camp (adapting a series of shorts he created with “Marcel” star Jenny Slate), has been embraced by critics for its charm, wit, inventive stop-motion, and its adorable breakout star. The one-inch anthropomorphic shell (voiced by Slate) lives with his grandmother Connie (Isabella Rossellini) and develops a friendship with doc filmmaker Dean (Fleischer Camp), who moves in and films Marcel’s daily activities, which go viral. Time and time again during this year’s pandemic, movie studios have had to make the best of a bad situation. HBO Max’s list of new releases for December 2020 comes along with the most extreme example yet.
WarnerMedia undoubtedly had big plans for Wonder Woman 1984 when it scheduled it for a holiday release last year. After moving it to the summer, however, the conglomerate had to delay its theatrical release time and time again. Now HBO Max is the lucky winner of the saga, as it gets to premiere the long-awaited sequel on its servers on Dec. 25.
While Wonder Woman 1984 is definitely the headline this month, there are some other intriguing streaming options for HBO Max in December. The month plays host to a whole host of high-powered documentaries like Heaven’s Gate: The Cult of Cults (Dec. 3), Alabama Snake (Dec. 9), and the Tiger Woods documentary Tiger (Dec.

And it already promises much to enjoy.

The cartoons, over 250 episodes in all, are shorts that debuted between 1930 and 1969 during the golden age of hand-drawn animation, and all the cartoons will be available at launch.

Anna Faris is now back on good terms with New Zealand. While appearing on Justin Long's Life is Short podcast, posted Tuesday, the Mom star revealed that she was once briefly banned from the country. During her chat with Long, the actress explained that there was an incident that happened while she was in New Zealand filming 2010's Yogi Bear movie. "Did I ever tell you about how I got kicked out of New Zealand?" Faris asked Long. "I didn't get kicked out, that sounds so dramatic, I didn't get kicked out. I did Yogi Bear there and I was walking...and it was a long shoot and there were days...most days I only said, 'Yogi!' So, you know, very fulfilling." Faris went on to...

Good movies tend to have solid taglines. Bad movies almost always have questionable taglines. Coincidence?
Taglines may not be the most important component of a film’s advertising, but having a good one can be beneficial. A good tagline should be something that is memorable, catchy, informative of the films’ plot or tone, and unique. Consider the tagline from Alien, “In space no one will hear you scream,” or Jurassic Park, “An adventure 65 million years in the making.” At other times, movie taglines have been famous quotes from the film. Examples are “One ring to rule them all,” from Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films, or “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy,” from The Shining. Simply put, having a solid movie tagline is worth the effort.
This is a look at a few films where the effort was clearly lacking or misplaced. Sometimes they are trying too hard.

Isn’t it amazing how expectations can change so quickly and colossally? Back when Paddington was scheduled to hit cinemas in 2014, it was the subject of much concern for a great number of audiences. A CG/Live-Action adaptation of the beloved books by the late great Michael Bond, the film frighteningly had people expecting another Garfield: The Movie, Yogi Bear or The Smurfs. Pre-release the film was blitzed by cynicism and negativity, from rumours surrounding Colin Firth leaving the project, to the first photo of Paddington being deemed creepy and curiously inspiring an online trend of editing poor old Paddington into classic horror movies. Such a tidal wave of pessimism though was met with a wave breaker of charm, as Paddington shocked audiences by being not only good but a magical, masterful, family film with lots to say about acceptance, goodwill and finding a place you can call a home.

The Snowman is melting at the box office. It only continues what Assassin’s Creed and Song to Song started, threatening to ruin this actor’s previously sparkling career
Related: The Snowman, Yogi Bear and Hollywood's unintentionally funny movie posters
The Snowman is a turkey. Everyone saw it coming, and now it’s happened. Audiences simply did not want to see Michael Fassbender play a man called Harry Hole in a film that was released before it was finished and marketed by a drawing of a Snowman who calls everyone “Mister Police”, like some sort of cut-price children’s entertainer. Lessons have been learned and everyone will move on.

There are few communities as obsessive as Adult Swim fans. The Cartoon Network nighttime programming block debuted in 2001 as a subversive spin on the animated channel’s daytime fare, and soon grew into a catch-all for bold creators. It eventually shook off its animated-only ethos to allow for surreal visions and adventurous filmmaking that fostered some of Hollywood’s most off-the-wall thinkers, and even brought in game celebrities to join in the insanity. Nearly every As title has disparate cults to fight for the programs that speak to them, whether it’s the rockers who ride for “Metalocalypse,” the Tim & Eric faithful who crowd the duo’s live shows, or the chemically enhanced who get their kicks on “Off the Air.”
Here are our picks for the network’s top 20 original comedy series, taking cultural influence into account alongside laughs.

Vicky McClure and Morven Christie were the highlights of The Replacement’s melodramatic, soap-like finale…
This review contains spoilers.
Praise be for the three-parter. Even when the narrative wheels come off, as they did in spectacular fashion in The Replacement’s ludicrously overblown finale, you’re still quids-in when it comes to your time investment. A dodgy last hour after two decent instalments is forgivable, especially when it’s all so bonkers you can’t look away.
Episode three put pay to all the subtle ambiguity over who was really the crazy one and vindicated our girl Ellen by exposing Paula not only as Kay’s killer but also as the villain from the Saw films. The blue-eyed monster hatched a plan so complicated that even after watching the episode twice and taking notes each time, I could still use a steer on what actually happened.

Daredevil Should Know The Laws Of Texas Aren’T Upon You
Either the Punisher’s even crazier than I thought he was – and he once gunned down some litterbugs because “littering is a crime against society,” so I don’t just think he’s as crazy as a bedbug; I think he’s what bedbugs point to when they talk about crazy – or Matt Murdock http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Matthew_Murdock_(Earth-616) is the worst lawyer of all time. Or both; they’re not mutually exclusive.
I wrote last time about the first issue of Daredevil/Punisher: Seventh Circle #1 . In that story Matt Murdock, assistant Manhattan district attorney and secret identity of super hero Daredevil, was trying to get the trial for a hated gangster, Sergey Antonov, changed to a new venue, because Antonov couldn’t get a fair trial in New York City. Fair enough, that happens. The venue Matt wanted was Texas.

GeeksAreSexy pointed out this compilation video from Robot Chicken that celebrates some of the show's best sketches involving the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I hadn't seen a lot of these before, so I figured with the new movie coming up and its new trailer still fresh in your minds, now's as good a time as any to share this.
If you're like me, you spent the first few seconds wondering what the heck Yogi Bear has to do with the Power Rangers, but stick with it and all becomes clear very soon. Take a look and let us know what you think:...

Premiere magazine highlighted 10 movie executives to watch in 1990. So what happened to them?
In its May 1990 issue, the sadly-missed Us version of Premiere magazine published an article, highlighting ten young movie executives, and suggesting that these were people with very big futures ahead of them in the industry.
Given that much is written about movie executives, without actually digging much deeper to find out who they actually are, I thought it was worth tracing what happened to these ten, and – 26 years later – whether Premiere was correct in saluting them as the future of the industry. So, er, I did...
Lance Young

Pictured in the article on an office swivel chair with some snazzy purple socks, Lance Young, Premiere wrote, had been “groomed for big things since joining Paramount at the age of 23”. He was 30 at the time the article was published, and...

It.s quite possible that we have now crossed the franchise event horizon. All properties that are capable of being turned into a "cinematic universe" will now see it done. We know that this has happened because the Warner Animation Group, a division of Warner Bros, announced at Cinemacon this week that they were interested in "unlocking the whole Hanna-Barbera Universe" beginning with a new Scooby-Doo movie slated for 2018. So, who will join Scooby-Doo in the Hanna-Barbera universe? Hanna Barbera.s list of cartoons is absolutely massive. It honestly probably rivals Marvel when it comes to simply the sheer volume of characters that they have created over the years. But, if we.re going to do this, let.s do it right. Here are 10 other Hanna-Barbera characters that we want to see in future movies. Who did we forget? Yogi Bear The Yogi Bear movie needs to happen for a...

Though a reboot of the "Scooby Doo" franchise has been in the works for a while at Warner Bros. Pictures, it turns out the studio has more ambitious plans than just one film.
Slashfilm reports that the studio announced at CinemaCon this week in Las Vegas that the new "Scooby Doo" film will be called "S.C.O.O.B." and is targeting a September 21st 2018 release.
That's not all though, it seems the film might serve as the launching pad of a proposed new wave of potentially interlocking movies based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoons. A cinematic universe of those characters which includes the likes of The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, The Jetsons, The Smurfs, Top Cat, Jonny Quest, Wacky Races, Sealab 2020 and many others.
Rights to certain titles, such as "The Smurfs," are owned by other parties and so obviously can't take part. The potential news comes from a studio...

In early 2014, Universal Pictures’ Ride Along became an instant hit, grossing more than $150 million worldwide as audiences fell hard for the unlikely comic pairing of Ice-Cube and Kevin Hart. And while most sequels don’t begin preproduction until well after moviegoers experience the first, Ride Along 2 was a follow up that the filmmakers knew they had to do.
Starring Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Ken Jeong, Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter and Sherri Shepherd, the sequel picks up about a year after our heroes’ last adventure. Plans for a quick trip to Miami go awry when their unorthodox policing gets them into a compromising situation that threatens to derail a major case…and Ben and Angela’s upcoming wedding day. The DreamWorks animated comedy Trolls is welcoming aboard another Hollywood star - Justin Timberlake!
Timberlake is the latest celebrity to join the movie's all-star voice cast, which also includes Anna Kendrick, Chloë Grace Moretz and Jason Schwartzman.
Timberlake has played a French-Canadian hockey brawler and a tech billionaire in his illustrious career, but his Trolls character Branch might be his most challenging role yet.
Branch is touted by DreamWorks as a "hilariously hardcore survivalist who hides his surprising true colours".
The singer-actor has previous animation experience from his voice work on Shrek the Third and Yogi Bear.
Director Mike Mitchell's Trolls will explore the origins of the loveable dolls and their colorful hairstyles.
Trolls opens on October 21, 2016 in the UK and November 4, 2016 in the Us.

As streaming services go, Amazon Prime Instant Video is one of the youngest names around.

Whoops.
The official Twitter account for the upcoming "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" tweeted out a promotional image today celebrating the 100 day countdown until the release of the film.
Taking the artwork already released for the film, the words '100 Days Until' were placed on top of Jennifer Lawrence's war-painted face. In order to fit it though, the word 'Until' was placed on top of '100 Days' and its alignment has resulted in the inadvertent appearance of the C-word.
Upon realizing the gaffe, the account deleted the image. As this is the internet though, nothing ever truly disappears and the art has already been saved and posted online.
This joins the ranks of some other infamous movie marketing accidents, such as the infamous "Yogi Bear" banner which featured what appeared to be a smiling Yogi Bear anally penetrating a smiling Bobo while the text above them read 'Good Things Come In Bears'.

Real comedy still happens on late night, we can prove it. If you like Conan comedy gold, Fallon friendliness, cutesy Corden, list-making Letterman, kneedy Kimmel, and all the rest, I hope you’ll enjoy this column too.
Last night on late night, Letterman talked about retirement with President Obama, Conan sat down with Avengers’ Jeremy Renner and Silicon Valley‘s T.J Miller, Fallon made an 80s music video with Jack Black, James Corden did a 5 minute “best scene” green screen of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movies with him, Kimmel talked about being Manny Pacquiao’s very own “Justin Bieber”, and at The Daily Show, producer Brian Grazer shared his thoughts on his book and career.
Late Show with Dave Letterman
“Hoping for a pardon”, “Down to the bitter end” With his time at CBS almost up, Dave is doing some pretty fun things, like sitting down with Obama and joking about playing dominos in retirement.

Justin Timberlake on the Oscars' Red Carpet Justin Timberlake at the Academy Awards The Social Network actor Justin Timberlake arrives at the 83rd Academy Awards, which took place on Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. At the ceremony, Timberlake and Black Swan actress Mila Kunis introduced the nominees – and eventual winners – in the animation categories. Throughout the proceedings, he pretended to be the elusive Banksy, whose Exit Through the Gift Shop was a Best Documentary Feature contender. The joke fell mostly flat, but Timberlake actually elicited some laughs when he imitated three-time Oscar-nominated veteran Kirk Douglas*, who mercilessly stretched the Best Supporting Actress announcement into what seemed like hours. Admittedly, Douglas was funny. (The winner in that particular category turned out to be Melissa Leo for David O. Russell's The Fighter.) As announced by the Justin Timberlake-Mila Kunis duo, the Best Animated Short Film was Shaun Tan...

Our interview with T.J. Miller, who stars as boorish pothead entrepreneur Erlich on Silicon Valley, almost didn't happen, considering he nearly dropped his phone off a balcony while dialing us. It would be fitting that a tech disaster could come back to bite the 33-year-old actor and comedian in the ass — after all, he's pissed off a few people in that world with the HBO show and a controversial appearance at TechCrunch's Crunchies awards show, in which he jokingly called Uber CEO Travis Kalanick's girlfriend a bitch. Luckily, Miller was able to hold onto his phone so we could discuss that kerfuffle, the second season of Silicon Valley, the show's stoner fans, and his timeless roles in Transformers 4, Yogi Bear, and a series of Mucinex commercials.Congratulations on the second season. Thank you so much. I'm not very self-critical, but I was pondering whether this season would live up...

All hail another cartoon superstar who shines brightly in the animation galaxy. Well, he’s been shining for more than fifteen years now, actually. But in the realm of ‘toon icons, this lil’ guy is pretty unique. He’s not part of the group that were created during Hollywood’s “golden age” to star in pre-feature film short subjects, this includes Felix the Cat and Mickey Mouse in the 1920’s right through to the 1960s’ with the Pink Panther (of course, a few jumped from the printed page to the big screen like Popeye the Sailor and Casper the Friendly Ghost). This fella’s an off-shoot of the made-for-tv superstars that include Rocket J Squirrel and his pal Bullwinkle J. Moose, the Simpsons, and the colossal roster of characters from Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera’s company (Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, the Flintstones, and Scooby Doo). While they debuted on old-fashioned broadcast networks,...

With Peanuts looking better with every new trailer, Warner Bros. is plotting a feature-length return for another classic cartoon – Hanna-Barbera series The Jetsons.
Hoping to transform the beloved show, about a family living in a futuristic utopia filled with fantastical technology, into an animated theatrical feature, the studio has hired Matt Lieberman to pen a script. Word is that Warner Bros. was impressed with Lieberman’s work on an animated Scooby-Doo project that it is putting together, and that’s what landed him this gig.
Lieberman, who honed his skills in the Disney Writers Program, has been everywhere in Hollywood recently. He penned spec script 12/24, a found-footage Santa Claus movie that 1492 scooped up; another spec called The Pet, which Disney has set Napoleon Dynamite helmer Jared Hess to direct; Paramount Animation’s Giant Monsters Attack Japan; sci-fi Short Circuit, which Alvin and the Chipmunks director Tim Hill has signed on to helm; Mr.

Disclaimer: This review is in regards to the version released earlier in UK cinemas, which did not seem to feature Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani’s single “Shine”. As such, this reviewer can not vouch for the recently released song’s presence in any scene alterations for the North American release. I would, however, like to publicly request that Mr. Williams’ song “Happy” be pulled from the radio. Thank you.
A big screen, CG-assisted adaptation of Michael Bond’s beloved Paddington Bear book series could have gone so horribly wrong, becoming yet another offender in the line-up of pandering kids-aimed film atrocities like Yogi Bear, Garfield, and The Smurfs. Thankfully made with clear love for the material and smart execution from writer-director Paul King, Paddington is instead a welcome breath of fresh air in a family film market that,...

At first sight, Paddington Bear looks monstrous, his creepy photorealistic fur bringing to mind 2010’s astonishingly misconceived Yogi Bear. You can almost hear the soft, squelching sound as audience’s hearts sink, the sound of teeth gritting as they prepare for yet another sacrilegious plundering of a beloved children’s classic. What nightmares are we going to have to endure? Is Paddington Bear going to have an attitude? Is he going to wear a puffa jacket? Oh god.. he’s going to rap, isn’t he?
This consuming sense of dread isn’t director Paul King’s fault. It’s just that we’ve been burned so many times by overblown, gagless, soulless cinematic abortions that we expect the worst; to look into the eyes of a CG bear is to see a grinning studio exec staring back (probably doing some warped approximation of the hated “Dreamworks face”).
This is a pity,...

3Rd Update, Monday, 3:15 Pm: The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies dropped some gold coins on its way to the bank today to deposit its actual results. The finale of Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy was off 1.7% from its Sunday five-day estimate of $90.6M, for a current reported cume of $89.1M. That figure still beats the first five days of The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug ($86.1M).
The Warner Bros./New Line/MGM film wasn’t the only one off from its Sunday: Sony’s Annie came in about $440K under today with $15.86M in third, while Fox’s Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb was down $200K.
Essentially, yesterday wound up not being as robust as expected for distribs with it being the last Sunday before Christmas. Warner Bros. projected $18.2M yesterday for Five Armies, but filed $16.73M, while Sony estimated $4.9M but came in closer to $4.5M.

<< Continued from "Weekend Report: 'Hobbit' Emerges Victorious in Final Box Office 'Battle'"Playing at 3,785 locations, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb opened to $17.1 million this weekend. That's a fraction of the last movie's $54.2 million debut, though that did open over Memorial Day weekend (when the opening frame is much more significant). A better comparison is the first Night at the Museum, which earned $30.4 million on the same weekend back in 2006.More recent comparisons are Fox three-quels The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, which opened to $24 million and $23.2 million, respectively. If the final Night at the Museum follows the same pattern as those movies, it will wind up with less than $100 million total. The second Night at the Museum movie earned 29 percent less than the first, which suggested that the novelty of the original movie had quickly worn off.

With Christmas and New Year’s Eve coming up, GQ magazine is offering up some helpful suggestions for throwing the perfect party.
“Silicon Valley” star T.J. Miller threw in a couple of hints to ensure that nobody gets bored or arrested while attending your soiree.
Miller shared, “Have conversation topics ready. For my twenty-first birthday party, I wrote a list. One was ‘Garbage— where does it all go?’ Another was, ‘What are three things you love about T.J. and one thing you don’t, but would never say out loud?’”
And Tj doesn’t mess with cranky neighbors- “I only throw parties at neighbor-less properties. I don’t know if you know—I was in Yogi Bear 3-D. So I’m incredibly wealthy. And I have properties all over the world where I’ve bought out the houses around me so there are no neighbors. If people say, ‘I can’t afford that.

I’m having a hard time focusing this week. See, Sunday is my annual Hanukkah party, and I’m in a tizzy making sure that I have enough food for my guests. My parents taught me that if I don’t have leftovers, I didn’t get enough. I don’t know how many people are coming.
Which is complicated even after the food is ordered. There’s the entertainment.
There was a time when I had a day job and most of my friends had day jobs, and we’d see each other at the various office parties we attended. In my time, I’ve attended holiday parties at DC and at Marvel. Both were fun. Maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough, but I never saw any of the shenanigans associated with office parties. No one was photocopying his naked butt. No one was having sex in a closet,...
