Good series, borefest episode.
phelectric16 July 2022
Can't stand his new girlfriend. Just destroys the show for what I thought this would be. Looked great now turning into a old man love story. Her character just doesn't make much sense. He should've hit it and quit it.

Great series, so so episode
nfire-2974116 July 2022
Dan Chase and Zoey's scenes are horrible. It feels more like a psycho-analysis during a Dr. Phil show.

There are so MANY different ways to learn about Chase's past and develop his character. Choosing to do it through Zoe...Bad decision. The scenes are boring.

The acting (Lithgow and Bridges) is top notch and one of the highlights of the show.

If you're unable to read even a few hundred words this isnt for you

Plenty of light TV junk catering to those who don't want to be forced to think while watching.

Really enjoying this show. This review is just a response to the user saying the subtitles are pretentious stupid and dumb. And dont make the show realistic (it would be realistic for every Afghan to be speaking English?)

Started nicely...
millyedge24 July 2022
The show started well but slowed down as the episodes went along

I cannot figure out if Jeff Bridges has something in his mouth this show or has no bottom teeth.

Once you notice, it is distracting...

It's a show for grown-ups, kids who accidentally wandered in can leave, quietly!
gina_gemini9 July 2022
It is a joy watching John Lithgow's range. It is a joy watching Alia's masterful performance. Their scene together, I keep going back just to enjoy the back and forth.

Those who accidentally wandered in looking for adrenaline and action alone can go choose from countless other forgettable shows that can best satisfy their taste.

This keeps getting deeper and I am loving it. Keep up the good work and don't mind the mindless.

Story back on track, but problem continues!
karthik-a-89-842919 July 2022
Show that went off road in previous episode has found its path back, but the key problem - Zoe continues.

Though we see less of her frustrating conversations compared to Ep 4, still I am confused on the need to suddenly make her a super star and Jeff's sidekick.

The scene when Jeff leaves his dogs at Pet Care before starting abroad was emotional and made us feel that He should have taken them along instead of Zoe.

Slow burn episode but great writing, acting, and suspense
chrishob-057669 July 2022
This episode is slow, and doesn't have a lot of action but it's still incredibly good. The suspense and tension in some scenes are great. The acting is phenomenal especially from the 4 leads but you expect that when Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow on the show. Some key things were also relieved in this episode which I thought were great, can't wait to see what happens next.

Dialog thick and plot thin
ikanboy9 July 2022
What started off looking like a great vehicle for 2 great actors has abandoned it's plot energy for dialog dreariness. Did Jeff get too tired doing all those fight scenes? The last 2 episodes have dragged, and consists mostly of California Zen babble conversations that do not advance the plot. I can give it one more episode to decide whether to look for greener pastures.

Great slow burning suspense with sharp and well written dialogues
Shadowboy_25cm8 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
There are two main separated, but also nicely connected storylines:
  • Harold Harper and Emily
  • Dan Chase and Zoe

both storylines have great dialogues, fine moments and character developments, slowly builing up the suspense of things to come: Emily tells at the end of this episode how things are and what needs to be done finally.

This show is great storytelling, that takes its time for the characters, that takes its time for character development and for gripping, emotional dialogues slowly increasing the tension and the suspense.

In this episode is no action and no fight scenes. The suspense and interest comes from the relationship the characters have to each other. The stage is all for the actors, their subtle play and fantastic performances. Great.

Harold Harper and Dan Chase will meet and they have to settle some things between them, till they can team up and set an end to the past.

I Think I'm Done
Mike_Yike8 July 2022
I've tried but I have some problems with the series. I'll list them in no particular order... #1, everything seems to be going in slow motion. It's a series and not a two hour movie so I guess that slow pace is understandable. Still, life is too short for me to keep going with the series, such as it is. #2, Jeff Bridges. I like Jeff Bridges but he is a craggy graybeard. His voice is labored, and raspy. The series needs to be called The Middle-Aged Man with a somewhat younger actor. Maybe Liev Schreiber or Kiefer Sutherland. It would be more believable. And just for the record, Jeff Bridges is but 6 months older than me. #3. The plot is needlessly complicated. The characters keep trying to explain it to one another which is really for the benefit of the viewer ("exactly what are we doing here?"). I don't know, maybe #3 can be blamed on me and not the series. Still, it's my review.

Good Episode but Why So Dark (Lighting-Wise)?
andrealschultz10 July 2022
Another good episode but why do all the scenes need to be so dark? The actors can barely be seen. I know it's mostly at night, but I'd like to see expressions, etc....

I'D GIVE THE PREVIOUS 4 EPISODES 9 OR 10'S, BUT THIS EPISODE IS WEAK
jeersNcheers9 July 2022
Like many others on here, I've never liked Zoe's character, especially when she turned out to be a gold digger who never even took the time to pay her son's tuition. As a woman, I'm very offended by the way Zoe is portrayed! This episode kinda sucked. UGH, way too much introspective California babble! I'm enjoying the back story, and I love the back story characters and flash backs, but the meaningless talk talk talk really drags.

PS The age difference between Chase and Zoe is preposterous. Funny how you never see May December affairs on TV where the man is younger. This aspect of the show is a wet dream fantasy for all the male viewers and adds nothing to the plot.

I'm trying to finish this episode....
ereignisband16 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is my second do at this episode. It feels like a stupid episode, but it's testing the viewer as well. Perhaps unintentionally? Why Zoe?? I'd rather he take the dogs. They'll actually help.

Episode Five
bobcobb30113 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Alia Shawkat and John Lithgow scenes on the plane were great, but overall this show just does not have high enough quality scenes often enough. I'll finish it, but this is not worthy of all the hype it gets.

wait what?
Lythas_859 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, so last episode there was a breach that made Chase know he was being pursued.. and like couple hours later, in the air, old dude already know the girls backstory and that she is chases daughter? Wow that was ridiculously fast... it is funny how that goes.. dude was clueless and when finds out there is a mole, he is able to zero in on it in 10 seconds while busy with a manhunt lmao.. he did not spend time checking everybody in the office or whatever...

and emily, why she did not protect herself trying to blame someone else.. covering her tracks better... anyways...

old dude and emily travel to dunno where... and at the end... decide to help chase..... what?

Chase makes zoe convince young guy to do something i do not remember.... and they get on a plane to go overseas.. but wait.. she is mrs dixon now.. where did they get her a passport? Ok nevermind.. it does not matter...

Boring flashbacks, Zoe Character is inconsistent
dharmacrown-8368413 July 2022
The guy who plays younger Chase is a weak actor and the whole flashback background story is too slow and boring. Zoe, who in the end of the previous episode was ready to kill Dan Chase suddenly has become much softer in this episode and seeking help. Huh? Make up your mind, writers! How can a character changes personalities so fast???

Did the writers quit after Episode 3???
susankeckler10 July 2022
It's like the experienced talented screen writers walked out after the 3rd episode and they grabbed the washed-up unemployed writers from the original Dynasty series to slap something together. Just cringeworthy. Zoe should've been disposed of as collateral damage in Episode 3. They dumped the dogs this episode and they were the only characters I'd come to care about!

Good Sleep Aid
numairh22 July 2022
I fell asleep and woke up like 2 or 3 times during this episode. Maybe the show ran out of budget, it felt like a soap opera drama where each character would get a 5 minute long soliloquy. It was like the characters were reading the book to me, I'd rather do that myself.

Started great
bomiranda218 July 2022
Episodes 12 3 very promising after that down the drain. All because of storyline and not acting. I stopped half way thru 4. Too bad. Zoe is not likable at all! Can't go on even though I'm tv desperate! Yeah it's that bad!

"Lets advertise it as an action show...
murphy-7769216 July 2022
But lets cut all the action out of it after episode 3. Wtf kind of 180 did they make? I was watching it because of the action not this boring story line that it turned into.

Series Hits a Hiccup
marcusrussell-327961 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
From episodes 1 through 4, I was dealing with the suspension of disbelief regarding a 70 years old ex CIA operative taking out hit teams, but the psycho babble that went on between Zoe and Chase in episode 5 really irked me because it was unnecessary to the plot. BTW, why would an operative on the run get involved with a woman in the first place; they're supposed to be lone wolves without the complications of relationships.

When Zoe had the gall to ask for half of Chase's wealth, I nearly threw my remote control at the TV. When Chase actually agreed to do so, I nearly turned the TV off. What man would give half his wealth to a woman he's known for only about a month? What were the writers thinking?

Great series up to this point
jprobasco-836769 July 2022
Can't tell if it's the directors or the writers of this episode but it feels like this might be turning into more of a soap opera instead of an action packed spy thriller.

Wow! What happened?
nostoryrob-823819 July 2022
This episode was very heavy on dialogue and no action to speak of. I have no problem with lots of talking but the whole episode was like some therapy session and I for one (and my wife) found it to be rather ridiculous after awhile. The plot was advanced hardly at all. We both groaned when, once again, the woman that's essentially been kidnapped by Dan Chase starts up with all these questions about his character. In a nutshell, we really don't know enough about any of these people to really care about them. The actors are trying hard but in this episode the writers (and director?) failed them. I'm hoping that things will get better, and I'm willing to keep watching, but this show, which had a 7 rating from me before tonight's episode has dipped down to a 5.

rustednail-3758610 July 2022
Jeff bridges is doing a great job as a supporting actor for zoe, emily, and emilys dead mom. Dialogue is also a 10/10. Reminds me of that time i went to a psychiatrist.
