The Great Depresion could not have been overcomed without Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the last great U. S. President. He was in a wheelchair. Eleanor, his wife, became his legs. FDR cared about the American people; the unemployed, the hungry, the ignored. He created social programs for the poor and neglected. He created jobs for the unemployed. He said: The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. With that headline, the unemployed went back to work. History in the making.
