A work that is only saved by its content

Overall, "Eles Estão no Meio de Nós" is an effective documentary in informing us about Liberation Theology and its emergence and operation in Brazil. However, the film's propositional content is deficient, and it clearly seems to have been made in haste. The editing is poor and the production and script are mediocre, considering the film's production time and budget. In fact, it's more like a long interview than a movie.

Almost the entire documentary is made up of interviews narrating a genealogy of LT which, although good, has some gaps. For example, they attribute to France the role of being the largest center of diffusion of the ideas that gave rise to LT, while completely ignoring several other European institutions that had a much greater influence on Brazilian seminarians, such as KU Leuven in Belgium. Actually, the influence of Nouvelle Théologie and Modernism, in general, is not properly highlighted in the film.

In conclusion, it's an average documentary that wasn't worth all its production costs.
