Actor Devon Sawa’s career has run the gamut from teen idol to leading man. However, he realized that playing the president of the United States on the SyFy series Chucky is infinitely easier than navigating the perils of teen superstardom. Here’s why Sawa stepped away from acting after being a teen idol and why it was one of the best decisions he ever made.
Being a teen idol ‘never felt normal’ says ‘Chucky’ star Devon Sawa
Teen idols are a unique set of celebrities. They are generally between the ages of 15 and 25 and dominate magazines, which is the mindset of young fans.
Pre-internet, being a teen idol, was even more dramatic than it is today. Appearances in leading publications geared to young people, coupled with a hit song and a steady gig in movies and television, comprised most of these celebrities.

During this week’s episode of WrapWomen’s “UnWrapped” Podcast, “Yellowjackets” star Christina Ricci opened up about the “abuse” and “childhood trauma” she faced growing up and how she continues to navigate her mental health as an adult.
The actress, who got her big break playing Wednesday Addams in the 1991 film “The Addams Family” said that mental health wasn’t a big topic back then. Ricci has said she suffered from anorexia as a teenager and was sexually assaulted as a child. “There was no discussion at that time about trauma, and about recovering from those things, about Ptsd,” she said. As a result, she ended up “acting out and coping in ways that weren’t good.”
Nowadays, the mother of two still finds it hard to find time to focus on her mental health. “I have a baby and an 8-year-old. So my days are really busy,” Ricci said.

Teen movies are one of the most beloved genres, from John Hughes' Molly Ringwald trilogy to the quest for virginity loss with the help of a warm, apple pie. But there's another part of adolescence that often gets lost on the big screen — especially for women. There are very few stories about the tween years: an uncomfortable and confusing time when you're unsure if you should still sleep with stuffed animals or start stuffing your bra. It involves the uncertainty of puberty, peer pressure, and oppressive school rules. I have so many memories from this formative time period burned into my brain; like the time a boy said I was gross or how desperately I wanted to look like the silky-haired popular girls.
Because of this gap in tween representation on screen, "girls are expected to go straight from 'Doc McStuffins' to 'Euphoria,'" Rachel Shukert shrewdly observed in Vulture.

Will Flora's findings turn the case on its head?
Now & Then Season 1 Episode 4 drops on Apple TV+ Friday, and TV Fanatic has an exclusive look ahead.
In the clip for the highly-anticipated outing, we see Flora in the year 2000, armed with some evidence that could change things considerably.
Sullivan is shocked by her arrival at his home because it's his day off, but when you're trying to find all the evidence involved, is there such a thing as a day off?
Flora's tenacity shines through the clip.
She's livid that this case has been covered up, and is dead set on getting the answers to prove what happened the fateful night the other characters desperately want to forget.
Set in Miami and shot in both Spanish and English, Now & Then stars an exceptional ensemble cast, including Academy Award nominees Marina de Tavira and Rosie Perez, and Ariel Award winner José María Yazpik.

Now & Then is a brand new series to come out of Apple TV, launching this weekend. The series, which is set in two simultaneous periods of time, focusing on the past & present day, it’s a show that blends romance, drama, action and thrills – all with a great big dollop of nostalgia. It also showcases the talented pool of Latin America performers and creative talents working in the industry today – and to mark the show’s release, we had the pleasure in speaking to the majority of them.
We speak about nostalgia, of their own pasts and whether they too have stayed in touch with close friends from their youth, while they talk about bringing such a wealth of Latino performers together, and how positive this can be for the industry. We also delve in to the accessibility that comes now with streaming sites, and we even get a...

In Before, Now & Then the social and political upheavals of 1960s Indonesia provide a hardened backbone to what is otherwise a tale of longing and simmering romance. It’s the fifth work by Kamila Andini, an Indonesian filmmaker whose dreamy 2017 film Seen and Unseen became a festival darling, screening in Berlin and Toronto that year to acclaim. Before, Now & Then sees her return to the German capital––premiering in competition this week, a sharp ascendency––with her most ambitious film yet. Drawing a number of deeply felt performances from her cast, it is an aching period piece, if frankly staid, that comes complete with many of the genre’s most reliable tropes: sharp intakes of breath; glances stolen through laced curtains; and love, as ever, in opprobrium.
