Koffee with Karan Season Eight began with a bang, and it generated a lot of positive and negative reactions on social media that focused on Ranveer and Deepika’s relationship dynamics. Discourse is necessary in a country like ours, but moving on to the next episode is the best thing to do to get over all the white noise around the last one.
The second episode had two of the most subdued guests, who have been known for delivering both hit and flop films spanning decades. Sunny and Bobby Deol grace the couch for the second time in twenty years. Nothing has changed in the dynamics the brothers share. The feeling of family values they projected two decades ago still resonates in this episode as well. 2022 for the Hindi Film Industry (or popularly known as “Bollywood”) hasn’t been much of a memorable year either in terms of commercial success or when it comes to innovative films, and the post-pandemic effect cannot be ignored. This was only exacerbated by the high exposure to the Ott platforms for some sections of society. Yet there were a handful of exciting films that made this bland year memorable in the context of Hindi films. This list will consider films that marked their theatrical release in India in 2022 and will also include direct digital releases or things like Netflix originals. Love Hostel(Zee5)
Starring Bobby Deol, Vikrant Massey and Sanya Malhotra
Written & Directed by Shanker Raman
The body-count in this inherently nasty work is so high that after a point one loses of track of the gruesome pointbank pointless massacre.
Love Hostel, a silly absurd inapt title which make this gore-fest sound like a Valentine special on Kapil Sharma’s show, has its immovable obdurate heart in the ‘fright’ place: it show how anti-love Haryana’s hinterland is. Any eloping couple on the road to a ‘safe house’(how safe, we soon know in this moving mansion of mayhem), and you have the coldblooded assassin Dagar hunting them down.
Coldblooded is perhaps a gross understatement. What Bobby Deol’s Dagar seems to enjoy is mass murder repeatedly. We have heard of a terrorist gatecrashing into a school or a church, and mowing down the gathering indiscriminately . Dagar is all of those mass murderers combined.

ReviewDirected by Shanker Raman, ‘Love Hostel’ has shades of Anushka Sharma’s ‘NH10’ and Nagraj Manjule’s ‘Sairat’, but also has its fair share of original twists.Sowmya RajendranLove Hostel, which was released on Zee5, is set in Haryana and bravely attempts to explore the danger that follows a runaway couple — Ahmed Shaukeen (Vikrant Massey) and Jyoti Dilawer (Sanya Malhotra). At a time when interfaith love, particularly when it involves a Muslim man and a Hindu woman, has been repeatedly demonised and labelled as ‘love jihad’, it takes guts to make a film like this, that puts such a couple at the heart of the plot. Directed by Shanker Raman, Love Hostel has shades of Anushka Sharma’s 2015 thriller NH10 and Nagraj Manjule’s 2016 drama Sairat, but also has its fair share of original twists. The 100-minute film doesn’t waste any time in getting into the thick of the conflict.
