The English Student
Jimmy_the_Gent49 March 2021
Marshall, a transfer student from England is well received by the other students.

A very good memorable episode for Jason. Marshall is English but also black, Jason befriends him at first since he did not know there were "black cats" in England. Jason had started a fund raiser for the Breakfast Fund and Marshall comes up with an idea for a fair. He ends up taking over the project which angers Jason. A funny scene at the end where Bernie is the target in a pie throwing booth.

Jason as an auctioneer

Warning: Spoilers
Jason was the "Roosevelt Franklin" of Room 222. His character with his street speech and mannerisims would probably be considered offensive by many people today like Stepin Fetchit. This is an episode where he meets and eventually bonds with his exact opposite in every concievable way a BLACK exchange student from England. Marshall is a sophisticated drink your tea with your pinky finger extended aristocrat that eats prunes for lunch while Jason eats peanut butter and jelly. Jason embraces him at first but then punches him when the two get into conflct over a project Jason is organizing. Leave it to good old Pete to set our UK friend straight and set up the traditional happy ending. Complete with Bernie getting a pie in the face at freeze frame before the credits.
