The second part of the miniseries is the first which happens on the doomed Sarek Island, also named " the island with thirty coffins" ('cercueil " (=coffin) resembles "écueil " (=reef ) in French );the place is surrounded by thirty reefs which can be dangerous when the sea is rough ;but because of the war , there are few inhabitants now :with the coming of Veronique , it makes thirty of them,and because of an old prophecy , people are panic-stricken and decide to leave their maleficent island.
The walk on the island to the priory may drag on a little -the miniseries is sometimes too slow-moving- ,but it sets the scene : a barren place (without a flower ,says the heroine;but ,wait and see,her Britton guide answers , behind the priory ,there are big flowers that grow incredibly high ) , with a howling wind and a threatening wood where ,formerly ,druids used to cut the mistletoe and offer human lives in sacrifice ;"we must not speak too loud, they may hear us ,whispers the supersticious Britton woman".
But horror has only begun: as soon as Veronique meets again her estranged father ,something awful, taking a mother's despair to new limits ,occurs .
