Follow the superstitions!
Sleepin_Dragon18 January 2021
It's all about The Bubonidiots, it's lockdown in 1603, William and Kate are locked down, but well stocked, and raging about the behaviour of the general public, who even back then, broke the rules.

As always, it looks great, it's very witty, the performances as always are immaculate. I love the dry humour.

I love the references to Shakespeare's work, very nicely put together. Jokes about works past and future.

Jokes about cultural appropriation, Kate questions whether an Englishman is fit to pen a play about Scotsmen, 2020, the year where people rant about straight men playing gay characters.....

It fits in very nicely for 2020, if I'm being honest, it did feel a bit BBC soapbox at times, but that's me nitpicking, it was very nice, seasonal fun. 7/10.

almost looked like a one take show!

The two actors did very well with an up to date script which mirrored the events we have suffered to date in 2020. More to come one predicts... Full of praise for both of them, as they kept it taut and entertaining - never a dull moment - even the bashing of a tin in the window was accurate too!

A fun gift

I rewatch episodes every few months - the show is that good - and when flipping through today, I only just noticed this little Christmas/year-end gift! With the two-person exchange it moved a little fast for me, but it was so good. Loved the gags, the wordplay, everything, like always. We can't wait to have all of you back, cheers!

Wit and Wisdom writ large.

Hats off to Elton, Mitchell and Whelan for this inspired two-hander of the popular comedy series Upstart Crow at this pandemic year's end after a terrible 2020. Fizzing with warmth, wit and wisdom, and never condescending or trite, "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow: a Lockdown Christmas 1603" stands true to Shakespeare and our own times; and based on what is performed here, Elton has definitely not lost his writerly mojo.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow: A Lockdown Christmas 1603
Prismark1022 December 2020
I thought it was the end of Upstart Crow but it returns for a lockdown festive special.

In this two hander. Will and Kate are forced to stay at home in London during the bubonic plague of 1603 which affects the young.

With King James on the throne. Will is attempting to write a Scottish play but he needs inspiration. Only to find Kate always interrupts his flow with things like 15 seconds of weird dancing.

They don't even realise that Christmas is approaching as the lockdown has dragged on. The plague is on its umptheenth wave.

Ben Elton takes potshots at the Covid lockdown ranging from stocking up with booze and veg. The shortage of moss to wipe your bum with. A nation split in tiers, the wearing of beaks, social distancing, singers who entertain for fun but quickly become boring along with the weekly dose of clapping for the nation's essential workers.

It is a satirical review of Covid 2020 Britain. The funniest bit was Will recounting the story of how his mother injured her ankle as she danced on her late husband's grave.

A dialogue is hard to continue
nakrugt30 December 2020
Especially on stage, it is very hard to go on with a two-character play.

Yet, here we are with an adequate performance to establish one.

2020 can be remembered as an allusion to the plague of the dark ages.

Simple and direct.

Just like the year we've had.

Not clever or that entertaining
centaur113523 December 2020
All episodes until this one were genius.

This was a lesson to do as you are told. It was tired and tedious. Usually I am entertained. I didn't laugh once.

The acting and the delivery were reasonably good. The script weak and predictable. Not the Upstart Crow we love.
