A Patient, Inspirational Documentary
montellamichaeld12 January 2021
It is pretty rare to find a person whose humility is greater than her formidable accomplishments. Fran Vall is one of those people, a former career foreign service officer, martial artist, and ski instructor. I would highly recommend this short documentary to any of my friends and colleagues interested in the life story of a truly inspirational woman.

Sensei Fran does indeed kick ass

This delightful short doc is told as both a look back at Fran's globe-trotting career with the Foreign Service (when doing so was quite ground-breaking for a woman) and a peek at her current work as Sensei Fran. Fran has lived her life with dignity, humility, and openness to new adventures and cultures. The director's respect for Fran's journey is echoed in Fran's respect for all people. She is a true role model the world needs today.

Both Sensei Fran and this film about her kick ass!

Sensei Fran Kicks Ass is an enthralling look into the life of a remarkable woman who has spent eight decades not only saying "yes" to whatever difficulties she meets, but deliberately putting herself into situations that she expects will introduce more novelty, more hardship, more intrigue, and more challenge. Her story is eminently inspiring, and this film consequently a useful guide to how we can live with greater verve and less fear, and increasing acceptance and even interest, not only for the physical and emotional difficulties that we must inevitably face throughout our lifetime, but of the cultural differences we will invariably encounter. Sensei Fran is a wonderful example for people of any age, including and, perhaps especially for the young.

Delightfully inspiring!

I actually felt myself smiling as I watched this lovely documentary.

Sensei Fran Vall drank deeply of the many cultures in which she was stationed in her Foreign Service career. As she shares stories of her remarkable life, Fran radiates with gentleness, curiosity, intelligence, and generosity.

Fray captures Fran Vall's courageous spirit with appreciation and respect, honoring Fran as a wise elder while illuminating her ageless zest for life.
