Second Shot At Love

This one is short and sweet, well, superficially sweet. Della Sutorius, born Della Hall, might have been a black widow, but the only husband she murdered was her last one, and fortunately she didn't make a good job of it, shooting him in the head as he lay sleeping, leaving a trail of evidence into the bargain.

Della was one of those women who push all the right buttons: attractive, curves in all the right places, homely. And toxic. There are a lot of them about; fortunately, unlike toxic men they rarely resort to murder, but she did use the classic of such women, false allegations of rape or, in her case, domestic violence, against a previous spouse.

Not a lot can be said about her victim; as a heart surgeon, he was a member of the 1%, and had been married before. One would have thought that a guy of his obvious intelligence would have been a bit suspicious about a woman who had been married four times, he was, but his suspicions came too late.

This episode of "Forensic Files" has the usual commentary by one of its resident psychobabblers, and there are reconstructions. The good news is that Della didn't outlive her victim for long; she died from natural causes less than five years later, in an Ohio prison.

The episode starts with " Cincinnati, Ohio: the 6th largest city in the United States". Really? It's like the 35 largest city by metro population included . Population in the 1980's (when this case took place) was about 306k. Metro area was just over 1.3 million.
