I do not think Stephen Colbert was the right fit to play this role, but amidst all of the craziness around his character, there was some truth to how the world of music has gone sideways. Talented artists have to put up with things like this to get writers and get music that will be played on the radio.
Getting John Slattery to make a cameo appearance after everything that has happened with him already being mentioned is exactly the kind of thing that 30 Rock would have done.
