Nicolas Cage, one of the most talented actors of our time is not a stranger to comic book movies. We have seen him having a history with Marvel, first portraying the anti-hero Ghost Rider in two feature films, then voicing Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, while talking about his further involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cage told Variety that he does not need to be in the MCU.
Nicolas Cage in It Could Happen to You
Seems like he will be back. Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show, a live-action Marvel series set against the backdrop of 1930s New York City. At present, there is no plot details have been out about the new Spider-Man Noir show, but getting Nicolas Cage on board will surely give hype to the show.
Suggested“I can just do it in a movie.

In the journey to reach professional success in Hollywood, people of color are often forced to conform to whiteness and navigate racial inequities created by white power structures. For Bipoc and Aapi TV writers, being “palatable” to white people and/or whiteness is required of them.
“I don’t think there are enough people of color making decisions,” “iCarly” and “Love, Victor” writer Nasser Samara said during TheWrap’s recent Writers Guild Association strike roundtable. “We’ve made it in our careers, but it comes with the acknowledgement that I had to be palatable to white people at some point to get this job, to get this opportunity to get ahead. Unity has been a watchword throughout the WGA strike, as writers fight for increased wages in the face of shortened TV seasons, the curbing of mini-rooms they say have been abused by studios and protection against AI. But while Hollywood writers and other unions are aligned in the fight, writers of color stress that even if all of the Writers Guild’s demands are met, they’ll still be struggling for equitable opportunities, representation and upward mobility in the industry.
“I have to speak up, even when the strike is over,” said writer Joel Boyd (“History of Swear Words”) in a recent interview with TheWrap. Boyd, who identifies as Black, joined dozens of his fellow writers at the picket lines in front of Paramount’s studio and pointed out how the amount of racial diversity seen at picket lines is indicative of the lack of diversity in writer’s rooms today.

After a six month search, “Wheel of Fortune” has found a new executive producer in Bellamie Blackstone, who takes the helm of the show as it heads into its 40th anniversary season.
Blackstone’s appointment also closes the book on the Mike Richards era of “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.”
A former executive producer of “The Price is Right,” Richards joined both Sony Pictures Entertainment game shows as executive producer in 2020. Last year, he was given the additional job as host of “Jeopardy.” But he parted ways entirely with Sony in August 2021 — only one week into the hosting gig — after reports surfaced about old podcasts in which he made sophomoric and disparaging remarks about Jews and women. Richards was replaced in the short term on “Jeopardy” by alternating hosts Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings.

Wheel of Fortune has found its new boss.
Bellamie Blackstone has been named exec producer of the long-running gameshow as it heads into its 40th season.
Separately, longtime supervising producer Steve Schwartz has been promoted to co-exec producer.
This comes after Wheel of Fortune was caught in the crossfire of last year’s Jeopardy! turmoil when Mike Richards, who was exec producer of both shows, was forced to step down.
Schwartz stepped up to oversee the production of the show’s 39th season.
It also comes after host Pat Sajak and co-host Vanna White signed up to continue on the show through the 2023/24 season. Production will wrap on the 39th season later this month with new episodes airing through June.
Blackstone recently served as exec producer of Netflix’s Nicholas Cage hosted History of Swear Words as well as Kids Say the Darndest Things and Hulu’s I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman.

Odds are good that if you checked out “History of Swear Words” within the last week, it was to see Nicolas Cage drop a few of those words as only he can. The Netflix show, hosted by Cage in his own scholarly fireside way, takes viewers inside the unexpected etymologies behind some of the English language’s most notorious corners.
But “damn” is a relatively mild entry — in its current usage — that shows not just the full spectrum of how we view explicit language now, but how much it’s changed over many centuries.
“It’s really the story of how something goes from being the most offensive thing you can possibly say, this biblical understanding of you literally damning someone to hell, to being now fairly benign,” showrunner Bellamie Blackstone said. “When we really dug into it, we realized how important it was for for us to talk about the full lifecycle.

It’s been a typically busy week for Netflix, who added some great new content to keep us all in catch-up mode as we continue to mostly be stuck at home. Particular highlights include the Nicolas Cage-fronted History of Swear Words, high-profile original film Pieces of a Woman, and French drama Lupin. What, then, are some of the television shows, movies, and other material that have been made available on the platform over the last few days?
Well, on the series side of things, A History of Swear Words is a documentary wherein Cage plays the host, and each episode deals with a different word, tracing its history and various cultural contexts. We also received Lupin, which updates the French thief and master of disguise for the present day, as well as new seasons of reality shows. In addition, the streamer released documentaries including the Martin Scorsese-directed Pretend It’s a City,...

Round about the time an acquaintance of mine got a Nicolas Cage tattoo – those mournfully stretched features and wide, restless eyes eerily emblazoned on her forearm – I realised that his career, already one of many corners, had turned another. Having moved through the phases of indie oddball, Oscar-winning serious thespian and multiplex marquee name, he seemed at risk of becoming a direct-to-dvd trash king, an ignoble joke.
If there’s any joke here, however, Cage and his loyal cult have decided to be in on it. Cue a 2021 comeback plan that includes playing himself in the forthcoming action comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, playing Joe Exotic in the inevitable Tiger King dramatisation, and hosting Netflix’s quirky new documentary series History of Swear Words.

Nicolas Cage may sign on to virtually every single project that comes his way based on the sheer volume and wildly inconsistent quality of his filmography over the last decade, but the actor has almost completely sat out the age of Peak TV, when many of his contemporaries have headed to the small screen in search of either a career rejuvenation, critical acclaim or a combination of the two.
In fact, when the Academy Award winner stars as Joe Exotic of all people in one of the many upcoming Tiger King-inspired series that are in development, it’ll mark his first role in a fictional television project since a teenage Nicolas Coppola appeared in the unaired pilot for variety show Best of Times all the way back in 1981.

Given how prolific he’s been over the last decade, it was only a matter of time before Nicolas Cage showed up on Netflix. After all, the Academy Award winner has been a staple of the VOD realm for years now thanks to churning out a succession of low budget efforts, so a streaming service felt like the next logical step.
However, Cage’s Netflix debut isn’t coming as part of a movie, but as the host of an informational exploration into profanity. The 56 year-old fronts History of Swear Words, which arrived on Netflix today and delves into the meaning of some of the most well-known foul language in the dictionary. The six-part series is surely destined to gain a cult following and crack the Top 10 most-watched list, because even the more curious subscribers out there surely can’t resist the opportunity to see the eccentric actor exploring the origins of f*ck,...

“History of Swear Words” opens with Nicolas Cage, solemn as a rock, turning to the camera and unleashing a torrent of famous lines joined by one crucial, undeniably satisfying element: the thrill of forcefully exhaling the word “fuck.” With the canny combination of highbrow and lowbrow that Cage has turned into a profitable persona all its own, the actor rips into iconic lines ranging from the basic (“who the fuck do you think you’re talking to?”) to the perversely iconic to the legendary (“I’ve had it with these motherfuckin’ snakes on this motherfuckin’ plane”). It’s a short intro, but one that nevertheless sets the tone for a self-aware series that delights in exploring formerly bleeped words just as much as its host does in saying them.
In theory, “Nicolas Cage hosts a Netflix show about swear words” sounds like a wacky game show the algorithm spat out as an afterthought.

After a year like 2020, a series where Nicolas Cage extols the virtues of “shit” and “bitch” with the poise of Ken Burns is not nearly as odd as it would have sounded two years ago. 1. “Pretend It’s a City”
Why Should I Watch? “Pretend It’s a City” is a Martin Scorsese-directed documentary series about Fran Lebowitz. Honestly, that’s all you need to know. Enjoy.
Bonus Reason: Ok, fine. The seven-episode limited series is Scorsese’s second documentary on Lebowitz, the famed New York author and public speaker, except this one is nearly four times as long — and arriving in the nick of time. Framed as a guide book to the city through the eyes of two true locals, “Pretend It’s a City” is like a long walk through the Big Apple, pre-covid of course. If it so happens to frame the essayist’s life, as well, all the better. With Scorsese in the driver’s seat, there’s bound to be excitement around every corner.

Winter is the new fall this Covid-impacted TV season. Because of the lengthy production shutdown in the first months of the coronavirus pandemic, Fox and the CW delayed the rollout of their regular fall 2020 lineups, and a slew of other series intended for fall 2020 debut also are slated to premiere in early 2021 instead.
With uncertainty surrounding production as Covid outbreaks frequently pause filming, a number of premiere dates are still Tbd, as networks and streamers often wait until last minute to set debuts so they are sure than the new seasons would be completed successfully.
That said, here’s our annual list of midseason/winter premiere dates for new and returning series. It covers hundreds of broadcast, cable and streaming programs debuting from today through March 31 and includes shows that were on hiatus and some one-off specials such as awards shows.
Please send any additions or adjustments to erik@deadline.

The first month of a new year is a good time to make a new impression. And that’s just what Netflix seems set on doing with its list of new releases for January 2021.
The streamer is coming out strong with a third season of Cobra Kai, formerly of YouTube Premium. The next installment in Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence’s story is set to arrive…eventually. Netflix has not unveiled a released date yet but it will be during this month. While Cobra Kai is the highlight among Netflix’ original series, it’s not the only one by a long shot. Last year’s fun Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous returns for a second season on Jan. 22 and it will be accompanied by Fate: The Winx Saga. Also, if you’re a fan of things that will one day be .gif’ed to death, the Nicolas Cage-hosted History of Swear Words drops on Jan.

Samuel L. Jackson isn’t the only motherf—er in Hollywood who has mastered the F-bomb. At the start of Netflix’s trailer for upcoming comedy series “History of Swear Words,” the show’s perfectly cast host Nic Cage just screams “F—!” literally at the top of his lungs.

It won’t take long for 2021 to get a bonkers new television series thanks to the debut of “History of Swear Words” on Netflix at the start of the new year. January is usually referred to as the theatrical industry’s dumping ground, where projects destined to fail are shoved out into the world to die a slow and painful death at the box office. Obviously, next month could see almost every new release face a similar fate as business is still showing no signs of recovery, but Netflix are looking to buck the trend and rehabilitate January’s reputation as a safe haven for fresh content, and the streaming service have some major original movies and TV shows on the horizon.
The most exciting without a doubt is History of Swear Words, which sees Nicolas Cage hosting a six-episode series that delves into the origins and multiple uses of profanity.
