Dwayne Johnson, aka the Rock was one of wrestling's biggest stars during its most successful period. Along with Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley and the Undertaker, The Rock electrified audiences with his witty promos, amusing mannerisms and frenetic matches.
He was a nine time world champion before leaving wrestling for good in 2003, He has made a couple of appearances here and there, but in general doesn't seem to interested in appearing on WWE screens as a wrestler these days. The Rock is not interviewed at all on this and we instead get a narrator and some superficial factoids to show between some of his most high profile matches.
And we start with the Rock coming in as blue chipper Rocky Maivia and defeating Hunter Hearst Helmsely for the Intercontinental Title early in 1997. The Rock's skills at this stage weren't great and fans quickly turned on him, in a similar way to how they turned on Cena a decade later. Funny how doing the exact same thing the exact same way gets you the exact same result.
So The Rock becomes a bad guy and joins the "black power" stable "The Nation of Domination", and defeats Owen Hart in our next match from April 1998 to retain the IC TItle.
He's still the IC Champion in the next match, a King of the Rin Qualifier with Triple H from June 1998.
The Rock was so amusing as a bad guy, the fans started to like him so he ditched the nation and became "The People's Champion." But it was all a ruse as he'd actually signed a pact with Vince McMahon who helped him win our next match, an entertaining bout with Mankind from Survivor Series 1998 and win the vacant WWE Title, becoming the corporate champion.
Mankind defeated the Rock to win the WWE Title, escalating an already bitter rivalry. Two memorable matches are included on this disc. These are a bloody and entertaining drawn Last Man Standing match from Valentine's Day Massacre 1999 and The Rock's Big Show assisted victory in a ladder match on RAW the following night.
THe disc ends with Austin pinning the Rock in a pretty decent match at Wrestlemania 15 to end his time as a bad guy.
Disc Two starts off with the Rock and Triple H in a steel cage match from July 1999.
For our next match The Rock joins forces with Mankind to create the Rock and sock connection and win the tag titles from The Undertaker and Big Show in August 1999.
The Rock then found himself on the wrong side of Kane after supposedly doing evil things to Kane's girlfriend Tory. They have a fun No Holds Barred match on SmackDown.
Next we see the continuation of a months long rivalry with The Rock winning the WWE Championship from Triple H in a scorcher at Backlash 2000 and then defeating Shane McMahon in a fun cage match the following night on RAW.
