Twists, Turns & the Amazing Andrea Martin
jmdanley6 September 2021
Well, for the first time, we get to see Kristen's husband again after having been away leading his mountain climbing business, and now Kristen is suddenly cold on the guy...

and that's just the start.

All-in-all, an interesting episode exploring brain mapping and various people seeing good and evil in their brains. The twists and turned often take place in the dream state, so I won't elaborate. But the best scene takes place in the middle of the episode between Leland (Michael Emerson) and Sister Andrea (Andrea Martin). Leland was the primary antagonist last season, but this season, the best scenes are between these two gifted actors.

Martin, a genius at comedy, plays the role of the nun with as little reaction as possible, just like the nuns when I grew up. Her large unblinking eyes evoke the warning that she is not to be trifled with and that her time is valuable because she works for God.

Even so, WTF is going on in Kristen's head regarding her ability to have empathy for anyone in her family??

As I mentioned in the previous episode, this show is so much better now that it is on Paramount +.

WTF!!!!
hillarymullins5 September 2021
I spent half the episode just saying WTF!! Apparently there is a lot that has been going on with Kristen that they have not been showing us. At this point I'm just like what else is she hiding? What else has she been up to?

Good way to revive a struggling second season
renbutler2 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After three bad episodes (the cringey Zombies, appalling Cop, and boring Silence), Brain took us in a far better direction. After a pointless first few minutes, it found its footing. Not surprisingly, the Leland/Sister Andrea scene stole the show, but the technology "visions" were fascinating, and I couldn't wait to see what was next.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Andy that Kristen has become very unlikeable in season two. Hopefully she can return somewhat to season 1 form at some point. Back then, she was already flawed -- as any good character is -- but in an interesting way. Her flaws have become too extreme. For example, the supermarket scene didn't make her a likeable badass -- it made her seem out of control.

Anyway, more Leland, more Andrea, and more assessments like we had in season 1, please.

Evil is in your brain
notanaxkiller-107-2879115 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Evil is in your mind...but it's also OUTSIDE of your mind, in the events that we witness and experience every day. But do we CREATE Evil in our brains, and then bring it into existence, or does it already exist, as a separate entity, and do our brains recognize its malevolence? The chicken or the egg. Ben puts on the helmet because it's..."A chance to see both God, and Keith Moon! Who could turn THAT down?!" This was a great episode in that it leads to MORE questions about how our brain is constructed and to what purpose. The fact that it works subconsciously to try to keep us sane is an indication of DESIGN...isn't it?

TMI
wendyschardein29 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not one to nitpick or criticize the fictionalization of real-life situations for entertainment purposes, but as a patient of transcranial magnetic stimulation, I need to speak up. TMS is a treatment for depression and migraines. There is no soundproof booth, no God Helmet, no goggles, and no visions of Heaven and Hell. It's painless and non-invasive, both physically and mentally, and it should not be portrayed as nothing more than a spiritual experiment.

However, in an effort to make the episode scary, the showrunners gave TMS qualities that may not only deter potential patients but outright terrify them. Personally, had I seen this before my doctor recommended TMS, I would have run screaming.

Additionally, Kristen's spiral and the continuing war between Andy and Sheryl (and the creepy Eddie shrine) only add to the confusion and frustration of the episode.
