In a bid to tap into the intense demand for premium Spanish-language content, veteran Spanish entertainment executive Pepe Huertas has launched TV production company, Tres Vacas. He’s joined by seasoned showrunners Pilar Nadal and Felipe Mellizo, creators of such top selling dramatic series as “Águila Roja” (“Red Eagle”) and “Un Paso Adelante” (“One Step Forward”).
The company will focus on creating scripted content for the global audience, drawing on their combined talents, expertise and decades of experience.
“Our aim is to conceive relatable stories capable of engaging with the audience from the first minute, based on in-depth character development that allows us to construct long and strong narrative arcs,” said Huertas, founding partner and managing director of Tres Vacas.

Spain’s Secuoya Group has tapped David Martínez, one of country’s most reputed TV executives, as head of fiction of the Secuoya Studios, its film and TV content production arm.
Considered as one of the architects behind the quality leap in Spanish TV drama production sector, Martínez’s appointment marks a new strengthening of Secuoya Studios’ content production structure, after the naming in April as president of Secuoya Studios of James Costos, former HBO VP of global licensing and retail, who also served as a U.S. ambassador to Spain over 2013-17.
As part of its international expansion plans, Secuoya Studios is also opening a H.Q. In Los Angeles.

Madrid -- France's terrestrial digital channel Virgin 17 of the Lagardere Active Group has signed a deal to bring Spain's top homegrown series of the moment "Aguila Roja" to French audiences in prime time, Imagina International Sales announced Thursday.
Period drama "Aguila," produced by Spanish production powerhouse Globomedia for pubcaster Television Espanola, has sat atop the Spanish weekly ratings thanks to a mixture of adventure, romance and humor.
The first season, comprising 17 50-minute episodes, averaged more than 25% of the Spanish viewing audience when it aired last year. The second season saw that share grow to just over 30% or some 5.6 million viewers.
The story focuses on the double life of a mild-mannered father who decides to avenge the death of his wife and becomes a 17th-century secret hero who fights for justice.
