What is this writing???
djacob-8521027 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is the second episode in a row where there is a Leia chase scene that makes no sense. The dialogue feels very cheesy and Reva is not intimidating at all. They change out of their disguises just to go and buy another disguise. Reva does backflips and parkour for half of her time on screen. Her acting is just not on par with everyone else's performance (minus kid Leia). Reva seems like the least interesting one out of all the inquisitors we've seen. The interactions between Obi-Wan and Leia feel very forced playful and cliche. For example, the cliche "Ever since I met you crazy things have happened" line. I really expected more for a show of this importance. They gave it off to some guy who writes flashy action movies that have no emphasis on dialogue or story. Really hope it improves later on in the show.

A few home runs in a painfully mediocre episode
lovemichaeljordan27 May 2022
It hurts me to say this, but the majority of this episode is bad. Some moments are really interesting and I hope we get to see more of those. Everything revolving around Vader and Kenobi is gold, but some of the writing is horrific. There are moments where the characters do the most illogical thing possible just to drive the plot forwards.

The parkour scene with Reva looks poor and cheap. They forgot the laws of physics on that one. Don't even start on the chase scenes. Did the editors look at that and think "this looks good enough"? No way. It looks like the scooter chase in "The Book of Boba Fett". Disney, you can do better!

It's fun seeing Leia, but she is getting too much spotlight. Her acting is obviously not the best (understandably so since she's a child) so reducing her screentime would perhaps be a smart move. This is absolutely no critique of the young actress. She is doing a great job, but focusing more on Obi-Wan would be interesting.

There is still hope for this show and the showdown between Vader and Kenobi will (hopefully) be legendary. It will be so rewarding seeing Obi-Wan ignite his saber and do some Jedi stuff.

Third Sister
archerthompson27 May 2022
Third sister is the worst character to ever exist in the Star Wars universe. Even worse acting. And to top it all off, what's up with all the parkour and backflips??

"The Jedi hunt themselves!"
bosporan27 May 2022
A great follow up with Obi-Wan on the search for Leia, knowing the inevitability of a trap. The interactions between Leia and Kenobi are delightful and ring true, despite her being a little over precocious.

Reva is again painted as a cartoon villain, in contrast to the brilliant portrayal of the Grand Inquisitor by the talented Rupert Friend with nuance, depth and a sinister charisma. There are also many continuity errors and plot holes - the most jarring being occasions where Kenobi appears to be in two places at once.

This is shaping up to be a fabulous show notwithstanding the criticisms above.

Am I supposed to shut my brain down because it's fiction
stani_cv29 May 2022
Let's be honest. This was not a good episode. The concept is there, but the execution is simply sloppy. The whole episodes if full of holes and questionable decisions by the inquisitors. Their leader acts tough, but can't even control a complete novice letting her do basically whatever she wants without zero consequence. This is the Empire we are talking about, they shoot people for a lot less. The other huge flaw which will follow the show throughout the whole season is this Reva who's either written very badly, or is a really incapable actor. I understand baddies are ambitious, but I'm hardly convinced that Vader send some nobody to hunt one of the greatest Jedi in the galaxy. On top of that her acting feels so over the top than even Hayden Christensen's in Episode 2 and 3 is Oscar worthy in comparison. This is something that plagues so many shows recently and Obi Wan is not an exception. At least the kid has an excuse cause she's too young anyways.

Goodbye Tatooine
ethangeorgephillips30 May 2022
The second instalment of Kenobi, is more fast paced than it's predecessor. We see Kenobi out of his comfort zone. Kenobi is forced to become the man he once was. It's really interesting to see this internal conflict inside him, as "Ben" the hermit on Tatooine, versus "Obi wan Kenobi" Jedi Master.

To add to his conflict, a new setting in Daiyu. Which has a similar atmosphere and look to corusant. I believe Deborah Chow, has done this on purpose. As she wants Kenobi to remember his roots. The streets of Daiyu are very compacted and bursting with life, the polar opposite of Tatooine. I thought the sound design was great, as I could really hear all the other mumbled conversations happening in the background.

This episode also introduced a new character called Haja played by Kumail Nanjiani. I was not a fan of this character, as it was like the script it's self was written without any clarification whether he was a protagonist or a antagonist. I felt his character arc was extremely rushed, like they ran out of time.

Reva had another prominent role, at first I felt her disobedience was badass and assertive. Unfortunately this episode takes her rogue personality too far. Leading to a ending that makes no sense if you have seen Star Wars Rebels.

It was intriguing seeing Kenobi battle like a normal man, and also seeing his rusty-ness with the force is demonstrating that he had left his Jedi life behind 10 years ago.

All though this episode has some plot holes, and questionable character arcs, this episodes carry's the fire of what is set to be a marvellous series.

super average

Third sister is brutal every time she's on screen. Her line delivery is so stiff and awkward every time. And why were they making her look like the batman on top of those rooftops??

Also, this is now the second ep in a row where tiny princess leia somehow outruns a full grown adult who is 1 foot away from her. I mean the girl can barely run on two feet but she's evading the legendary jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi??!?! Cmon now.? I'm obviously willing to suspend reality a bit, but this is just absurd. If Leia was pulling off acrobatic moves like the Third Sister, it would be much more believable that she can get away from ppl. But she is literally just a 10 yr old girl lol. All i hope is that Leia doesn't outrun another full-grown adult in episode 3.

Oh Wow, that ending
tristan_1927 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2 is basically a rescue mission. It's not as strong as the first episode, but it has its moments.

Obi-Wan has interactions with Leia, which is mindblowing just thinking about it. He reminisces over Padme and learns Anakin is alive. Haja is surprisingly an interesting character also.

I literally cannot wait to see what Obi-Wan does in the next episode, and how the revelation affects him !

Could Be Better
SHU_Movies27 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Can't decide exactly what rating I want to give this, there were parts that were absolutely amazing, but the writing wasn't always there. Like, Obi-Wan had plenty of opportunities to just grab Leia or privately lift something to show her he's a Jedi, and instead he's just like "Yeah, please come with me, I promise I'm a Jedi".

Isn't this called Obi-Wan Kenobi...FALSE ADVERTISING
FreddyShoop2 June 2022
This is actually the Kid Leia Story...and Scooby Doo. Watch her "dire" chase scenes as she runs slower and more unbalanced than Ewoks...while all the adults half-heartedly attempt to stop her. It's sorta like playing a game of Tag with a toddler, you can't let it end too soon....because stuff.

Listen to her blather on in Sorkin-esque unbelievable dialogue, and leap to goofy conclusions the next.

Watch 3rd Sister pout around the scenes, and have one of the silliest, most disjointed "action" scenes. Just take an elevator next time, and use your Jedi-location skill. It would actually be cooler and make more sense.

Ugh, I feel bad for Ewan McGregor...until it occurs to me how much Disney $$$ he's probably getting for this mess.

The only people seeming to earn their paychecks are the CGI, monster, and visuals folks.

And finally the moment has arrived
TheLastDon8127 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
And finally the moment has arrived.... We finally get to see the moment that Obi-Wan finds out Anakin is still alive. The show did a good job with it. They didn't overdo it for corny dramatic affects. And ending the episode with Vader opening his eyes was just perfect. The character of Reva it's kind of annoying but since none of her story has been flushed out besides her being the child in the temple when the show starts, I'm sure she has some sort of reason for being the way she is. I'm a little bit confused as to why the retconned Rebels with the death of the Grand Inquisitor. I guess we will see what happens. Another fantastic episode.

First two episodes feel like they are for ages 12 and below...reva is also very annoying. I hope this show isnt an, "inquisitor redemption arc" +involving kenobi. Need it to be about vader and kenobi.

At times it was a bit like Scooby Doo...
joejetloky27 May 2022
Why did the director accept the Leia's chase scene - it literally looked like a scooby doo scene. If we can see how ridiculous this scene was, then she must have seen it too, so why did she accept it? Vivien Lyra Blair is just too young - she looks like she was 6, not 10. She doesn't have enough acting skills and Deborah Chow probably didn't have the heart to squeeze a little more out of her. Reva's character was played like it was an episode of nypd blue about rebellious youth from the 90s. I understand that Moses Ingram wanted to play it this way and here again the director is there to explain to the actor what this character should be like - apparently Deborah Chow didn't have the heart for it again ... After 2 episodes my rating is 4 at most. What I don't like the most is the sloppy directing of the characters and the fact that many scenes look cheap. I will not judge the story yet.

A very solid second episode
jackdbradford27 May 2022
The second episode clocks in at just under 35 minutes (excluding credits) and in that time it progresses further in the story set up in episode one looking to possibly wrap it up in the next episode. It's only focus is on that story and nothing else takes place besides moving it forward. The child acting is pretty good and the 2 main leads have entertaining chemistry together. The ending of the episode left me wanting more. Not just in I wanted more episodes but that I wished more had happened. In the just over an hour of combined run time of the first two episodes not much happened at all besides the small story arc and setting up a very intriguing character return. It's enjoyable to see an out of touch obi-wan try and return to his roots one last (but not really) time. Ewan perfectly slips back into the role like he never left.

Overall a small bit lacklustre looking back but really enjoyable in the moment despite leaving you in a "is that it" state. 9/10 massive grin for the whole two episodes.

Run Leia Run
slak96u28 May 2022
So far it's been 2 hours of Leia throwing tantrums and running away from people. I'm sorry, this series is going to be rough if the entire premise is simply trying to save Leia every week. Also, the actress playing Reva is in over her head. Positives, the production has been fine, and Ewan McGregor is predictably good. Two episodes in and I'd say this series is considerably better than Bobba Fett, but no where near Mandalorian.

True Grit
How many millions does an Obi Wan episode cost? Why don't we spend a million on the script alone? Why don't we spend a few hundred thousand in that million on a good search for western movies? And maybe a few weeks of good viewing and notes?

It is not possible to see a waste of money and potential talent in this way.

And sorry but photography doesn't always have to just "explain". They are banal images that do not have the courage to make us dream.

The cinematography was so good and complemented the story perfect. The effects were done excellently and was very visually pleasing. The plot so far works very well with the rest of the universe and only serves to add to the larger story. I completely recommend watching this and can't wait to do so myself.

Shaky but glimmers of hope
rmmil28 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'll start by saying I'm not a fan of watching Leia slowly-barely-constantly getting away from adults. She's 10, and a small 10 at that. I know Flea has done a lot of drugs in his life but he's faster than little Leia.

I'm relieved to see other reviewers here just as annoyed by Reva as myself. Poor casting choice.

I also wasn't a fan of the Vader reveal looking like a partially done bratwurst simmering in a slow cooker.

The positives include seeing a planet other than Tatooine. Not everything in Star Wars HAS TO take place on Tatooine. Good to see some world building. IMO Ewan McGregor has really grown into the Obi-Wan character, I like the job he's done here so far.

More Obi-Wan, less Leia and Reva, please.

Solid but not perfect
tpcatoz-9065027 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Through two episodes I am pleased with the show so far. You can see a depressed Obi Wan who is currently all out of confidence and is battling his inner demons. I really like how Ewan Mcgregor is portraying this beaten down Kenobi. The show also looks beautiful and the towns look alive and cgi is nicely done.

However, i think it's very silly how Leia is able to outrun multiple bounty hunters and even Obi Wan. I understand this show is entirely fake and they have to stretch certain things, but It's obvious those chasing after her could catch up to her with ease.

I hate when they ruin good Shows with Kids
18Buddha4 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This series was showing promise and looked good until they revealed theirs gonna be little kid princess Leia.

This shows potential just got ruined now that theirs a little kid for a main character Smh.

I dislike films/Shows with little Kids as main characters cuz they always try to force it to make them look all so adorable with forced jokes or just annoying pointless scenes with them in it. Even worse is when they try to portray these kids behave with the intellect like their adults or something doing impossible things also.

I had such high hopes for this show, all i can hope is This Princess Leia kid will accelerate her age in the next episode lol.

This reminds me of The Walking Dead where they try so hard to make some little kid thats 7 years old to be some bad ass lol.

Kids honestly shouldnt be used in films n shows cuz its immoral how they will grow up affected socially and morally and psychologically as well their terrible actors and any scenes involving them are cringey always.

Bad chase scene, bad villains, bad reveals, oh my!
frankiesilver-9183624 June 2022
There isn't much of a takeaway from this episode. It's just an escape episode with more really unrealistic chase scenes.

We did get a change of scenery this episode which is really refreshing!

I like the idea and the look of Daiyu. As for who we meet here, Haja the Jedi con artist is a pretty charming idea, but maybe a bit cheesy compared to the tone episode 1 built.

I didn't really mind him in the end but I did get fed up with Leia here. Her being difficult just wasn't fun to watch. Plus for a kid that's supposed to be so smart, she wouldn't stop blurting out loud about how Ben's a Jedi.

Reva also continues to get more aggravating. I thought her just telling Obi-Wan that Anakin survived is the most underwhelming way they could've handled such a moment.

And the shock "death" was dumb. Fans know it's a fake-out and there wasn't enough build-up for it to be impactful anyway.

So after this, I'm really mixed on this season so far. I really hope this show doesn't end up half-assed like Boba, but I'm starting to worry.

My friend Callum made a good point that there was a lot more inter personal dynamics and reflection upon metachlorians and it's greater metaphysical physiological religious intentions and purpose on the grand scheme of the fictional Star Wars universe.

38 minutes?
suvechhabose27 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Come on lucasfilm , 38 minutes is not good .

The story did not progressed at all . One effective scene doesn't carry an episode (the scene where obi wan found Anakin is Vader). In comparison to opening episode , this episode felt like a laid-back filler .

Good points were expected. Seeing a fallen clonetrooper to exploring Daiyu but as in actual star wars standard , this felt forced. The neon planet , the death of Grand Inquisitor wasn't a good move . Many cannon characters could ve been made a cameo but nobody did , not even krrsantan or Dr Aphra . I Didn't liked Alderaan neither Nanjiani's character (gosh such a bad comic excuse , worse than jar jar) , its a personal thing but colouring every building white really showed they didn't care about Alderaan. I missed the vivid description of Alderaan as shown in kotor .

But yeah Loved the way The actress portrayed Leia. The face looks similar , for real . But the huge concern is why lucasfilm is busy editing episodes? Inquisitor's lightsaber spin scene felt miniature. The whole episode didn't covered obi wan interacting with someone titular , pacing was way out if the line.

Last The Vader scene also could have been way more menacing but toned down for some unknown reason ; Just as i wrote , in comparison to episode 1 , this felt pretty small in every way . Stop gutting episodes jesus please, stop making 38 minutes episodes!!! 6 .

Take it or leave.

& Yeah people who are complaining about any character be Reva or even little Leia ; they just want to go home & rethink their life. (Remember Jake Lloyd?) They are written independently by 2 people throughout the whole show which is Actually GREAT. Well , will be. Hold on .

They Should Call This Show "Catch Me if You Can: Leia, a Star Wars Story"
MamadNobari9727 May 2022
Hey Disney, instead of putting millions of dollars into advertising, maybe put some of that sweet $$$ into getting good writers too? Disney has all the money in the world, yet for some reason, they can only find the most mediocre writing and editing, and directing teams.

And here we are again ladies and gentlemen, the writers and the director were so proud of themselves with that amazingly memorable and groundbreaking chase scene in episode one, that they just had to do it again in this episode, only this time including Obi-Wan in the chase to embarrass him more. I don't even need to describe the scene and that frustratingly hilarious cut of Obi-Wan reaching for Leia and then suddenly Leia still running and Obi-Wan's hands are now on his side in the next shot. The whole scene is more hilarious than the last episode's chase scene.

And Reva's "badass" scenes were all like the "Parkour Parkour" scene from The Office. Her actions, especially the last one with the Grand Inquisitor are just baffling. And according to comments I've read online, the last scene breaks the canon, so I don't think it's permanent, but it's still baffling and dumb. The writers think they made Reva more intimidating and her character And the story more interesting, but they only made me not like her childish character more, and also made the story with the Inquisitors less interesting.

They had two episodes to make me at least like when I see this character Reva on the screen and they've failed miserably. They tried so hard to make her a badass and an intimidating foe, but she's just a child with temper tantrums and a simp for Lord Vader.

I much rather see the Second Sister or any other character than this. At least the Second Sister had a better actress and better writing behind her. Just another example of how video games and video game writing are superior to anything that Disney tries to do.

At least this episode is a little more interesting than the last one because thank god they've realized there is more planets in Star Wars than the boring desert planet Tatooine. The change of scenery and the environment is good.

And I really liked that they showed a homeless clone.

Overall, I'm not enjoying the show as much as I want and these glaring issues with the writing are really noticeable, especially with the horrible chase scenes and the awful fight choreography.

The acting isn't that great either. So what else is there to like? I don't really know, these two episodes were really forgettable and didn't have anything that stands out as a great or iconic scene, not even as a decent scene. And I'm starting to think I'm being too generous to give this "mediocre everything" (editing, chases, writing, directing, and the acting, especially from Reva) a 6, but hopefully, it will get better when Anakin comes to the picture, but I really doubt they can surprise me with the next ones or their writing skills suddenly gets better in the next episodes.

So far, Disney Plus has been nothing but mediocrity and disappointment, all eye candy and style, but no substance, all show but no go. Marvel shows with limited 6 episodes and a more limited runtime that can never reach their potential, and Star Wars shows with the most mediocre writings of all time and butchering of established and beloved characters.

These Disney writers can't write a good Star Wars show or movie to save their life if there wasn't any original or prequel trilogy so they can replicate poorly and butcher its characters and skew their stories and sell them to us as "new" content.
