Better, but it's a bit late
tbunker-8829415 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this episode it has clear improvement but one decent episode after 4 sub par episodes doesn't redeem the incredibly underwhelmed feeling Disney has left with this series. I hope they end on a strong note next week.

This is what we've been waiting for!
Dannyboi9415 June 2022
So far I've enjoyed the series, not loved it, each episode has been good, with some ok episodes and one or two great ones. This one was brilliant. The pacing, fighting and others was fantastic, its almost like like it was made by different people.

I don't want to spoil anything, but Darth Vader has never been more bada** than he has in this episode. Brutal, smart, cunning and everything we've hoped for. My only issue was how short it was.

I hope the final episode is just as good, better even... and please be much longer.

The best so far, but still...
Sir Gerry15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Debra Chow directed a couple of great Mandalorian episodes, I think she's good at drama, but action, as evidenced by part V, is not one of her strengths. Some sequences come across as fanfilm, like those seen on youtube. Granted, she's not the stunt coordinator, but she's the director. The retreat with Tala was just terrible, everybody just shooting up, and only stormtroopers fall, they are at point blank range, and they still miss. (Yeah, I know). Before Tala falls, she just grabs a ST by the helmet and pulls him down like nothing, quite unbelievable. Then the Vader - Reeeva fight, man, it has a subpar choreography, looked really cheap. Anakin and Obi wan sparring was quite better, but of course those guys have known each other for 20 years.

The good, of course was all the fan service, seeing Anakin and Obi Wan was amazing (They should really make a live action series of those two, ala clone wars). Leia still the same know it all, valley-girl accent she's been all the show.

The story is where this show fails the most, too many plotholes and inconsistencies to name here. Just watch for the eye candy.

After a rough episode, Kenobi is back and the show hits the ground running. We get some great character development, cool emotional beats and some solid action. Everything gears up for a great finale.

"You can't win, but there are alternatives to fighting." - Obi-Wan Kenobi, A New Hope

Warning: Spoilers
The episode very well focused on Obi-Wan and Anakin's characterizations.

+ Anakin/Vader/Order 66 flashbacks

Vader holding off the ship & ripping apart the doors!!! Wooof!

Tala's sacrifice was compelling. Reva's backstory was great.

This is what the series should have been like from the start! What an episode, this had everything. Leading to the climax of this episode and the finale next week

From the start of the episode to the end this had the feeling that something was going to happen and it surely did. There are moments that happened throughout this that propel the story forward so well, Loving every moment of the flashbacks that really helps the prequels and this story!

I cannot wait for the next episode and if this is an hour long this could be one of the greatest episodes in Star Wars.

This is what we waited for.
jackdbradford15 June 2022
Part V is exactly what the title implies. It's what we waited for, the episode brings back Kenobi almost to what we knew in the prequels while also giving the emotional character moments we needed.

SPOILERS AHEAD...

This is the first episode to contain full flashbacks giving us a better look at reva's backstory and showing meaningful moments in Kenobi/Anakind history, despite some ineffective de-aging on Hayden Christensen they were very well executed linking into the story at the same time.

Also Vader was no joke in this episode with the improvements since the late 70s early 80s they can really show of Vader at full potential and he is nothing short of terrifying.

The direction was much better
ronniewhitedx15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode seems like it had 2x more care and attention given to it than the past 4 episodes. I'm a huge fan of this direction. The writing is still falling flat for me personally... I really mean no offense to Joby Harold, but maybe he is at his best when he has a little more supervision from veterans in starwars? At the very least I think Joby should run his scripts by Dave, but I like that he isn't afraid to write some dark stuff (Padawans getting slayed is pretty nutty in Star wars). This show is at its best when it goes dark and the action goes hard. It should embrace it's strengths fully because that's what makes it great.

The only major issues would be maybe a little more de-ageing on Hayden Christensen because the flashback takes place during episode 2 era. Also sending two ships and Reva even though Vader knows she's a traitor... Is definitely a choice. Maybe we'll get an explanation as to why Vader seems to purposely let Obi-Wan get away on multiple occasions throughout this show.

Cheese Grater
brandirclark16 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Vader...completely awesome.

Flashbacks...good.

Please ignore typos.... Cheese Grater...so Many Plot Holes 1. A dumb version of Bale Organa 2. Leia never is able to fix Lola, but can fix a garage door.

3. A visible control chip, which Leia easily finds at the end of the episode while it somehow went unnoticed by her during the long, boring trip between planets.

4. I can do everything by MYSELF. Just ignore the fifty soldiers I needed with me.

5. Blow that door up. More ammo! Yes while I'm standing in front of you. You're terrible shots. I'll be fine. 10 minutes later...lightsabre slices through easily. Why not use that first?

6. Vader wasn't strong enough to grab the second ship?

7. I watched Jedi children killed. How could he?! I want revenge. My solution involves taking a battalion and leading it to battle against the few remaining Jedi and those that helped them, because the best way to exact revenge for them is to kill them.

8. Here, almost stranger, with questionable morales. Take my phone that has no pass code and contains vital info. Oops, forgot to delete those.

9. There are more, but that was the list I came up while watching YT videos point out even more holes. Did any one edit this script, or were they too blinded by the flash of the specular action to remember to do that part.

Much Better
mohrbencarson15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was the Ani and Obi that we know. The writing was much better and the cinematography between flashback vs current I thought was great. Seems like it has got back on track, although it was decently predictable which I didn't like. Also people don't seem to stay dead. Tala for all we know can be impervious to thermal detonators?? Who knows.

One thing I will note that I didn't like... They all were sitting there in the hangar hopeless... Why weren't they loading the transports? Lol seemed like they always seem so stupid.

Stupid writing continues, how exactly is this a 10?
RomanXO15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just because there is a scene with Hayden, doesn't make the episode a 10/10. Are expectations really that low now?

Some of the marvelously stupid writing examples:
  • Droid can lock down the base, but cannot open the front door
  • Leia is now an engineer as well, of course
  • Reva getting all emotional with 50 stormtroopers right behind her
  • Tala only using her grenade when dying, why not before?

  • Obi-Wan getting captured to face Vader, but then to escape again? What?

  • Let's hold Obi-Wan with two Stormtroopers behind a door where nobody else can see him
  • The empire has a fleet in orbit, but the rebels can just fly away?

  • Reva attacking Vader at the possibly worst moment when she was planning her revenge for a good decade
  • Is everyone with a lightsaber getting trained how to inflict the least amount of damage? How many necro revivals we gonna have? Go for the head next time, Thor.

  • And the most stupid thing of course - let's just walk away with Reva lying alive on the ground. Are you serious? Sure, you don't want to kill off the character, but this is just lazy writing.

That was it?!! That was Reva's super master plan?!!! Who wrote this?
sadako1118 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
To sneak behind Vader and kill him?!!! That's it?

She could not come up with a better tactic, better plan, better moment to kill Vader? Sneaking behind him? Really? After he full of rage just pulverized a spaceship without breaking a sweat she just decided that was the best moment to sneak up on him. Really?

If Vader knew since the beginning that Reva was after Kenobi, why he did not help her from the start to find Kenobi and once she finds him get rid of her. There was no need for Reva to go rebellious and "kill" the master inquisitor if Vader and the Inquisitors were helping her finding Kenobi. I really don't get it. This is very poorly written.

If Tala had this super atomic granade with her, why the hell she did not use it before when the stormtroopers breached the complex doors? She could have eliminated half the troopers.

Vader just destroyed a spaceship without breaking a sweat, but he was not able to stop Kenobi in episode 3 when there was a lame wall of fire between them. Who write this?

This was just another chase and escape episode. No creativity.

I cheered when Vader stabbed Reva
poseyfan15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm going to be honest... I had completely given up hope after the last episode. But this one was actually pretty good. It still has it's problems, but Reva is finally given some character (even though I still don't really care that much about her) Kenobi is back in the game, and Vader is awesome. He absolutely toys with Reva which was satisfying to see. I actually cheered when he stabbed her lol. She should not have survived though. The flashback was cool to see too.

Big improvement over the last episode. Hopefully they stick the landing.

Great fan service and I very much enjoyed
snoozejonc15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Darth Vader tracks down Obi-Wan and lays siege to their hiding place.

This for me is the strongest episode so far for character moments and plot development.

It starts off with an exciting premise with Obi-Wan leading from the front, plus it incorporates strong flashbacks to the prequel era that cleverly aligns to the plot. This is the kind of scene I wish was in 'Attack of the Clones' or 'Revenge of The Sith'. Maybe at the expense of some of those love scenes.

The exchange between Obi-Wan and Reva is a strong moment and although unsurprising it is for me the only logical direction her arc can go.

I will say nothing else about the plot to avoid spoilers, but how events unfold to the conclusion to this episode works very well for me. Some may complain it focuses too much on Reva, but considering that we know the fate of the other main characters already I think this is a smart idea. The final shot is a a good one, but for me it doesn't generate any real suspense due to the audience knowledge of the original trilogy.

I think it provides the best fan service of the series so far due to the flashbacks, Reva's backstory and the use of Darth Vader. For me, as always, Star Wars is about the escapism and this one does is it splendidly.

There are some plot points that are unclear at the moment, like why certain characters are left alive but maybe this will be cleared up in the next instalment or just to left open to interpretation that they are considered to be no threat to Vader.

Visually it is a good one, with better action sequences, great use of the force and lightsabers.

Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christiansen and Indira Varma are on great form..

Redemption Episode
paulmccartnaay15 June 2022
I was questioning watching episode 5, glad I did. Respect to the writers on having a vision this whole time, was really sure they were kind of full of it. This episode has a much more of a mature feel to it that episodes 1-4 should have had. Could not be happier with this.

Star Wars fans will still find a way to complain Warning: Spoilers
Wow. This episode is great. I love the flash back scenes Hayden killed it. I can't wait to see what the final holds in store. Fans will still find a way to complain and rate this show like a 4 when we all know it's a easy 8/10. Hopefully s2 has more flash backs and maybe a clone wars mission with Rex and Cody.

Darth Vader in God mode Warning: Spoilers
Wow, just wow. I love to see this version of Vader. He is too powerful. He didn't even was at 50% fighting Reva, he was just avoiding her attacks, he was not on offense and he still defeated her easily. And remember when Ray tried to stop a ship? Well, Vader shows her how to do it here, that was impressive. And, of course, that flashback with Obi-Wan and Anakin was beautiful.

Here we see the intelligence of Kenobi, his negotiating skills, this is why he is general Kenobi.

Great episode overall. Of course it has flaws, but it was pretty good in my opinion.

Much better, but disappointed in the writing
danpaine-822-52544715 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was much better than the previous 4, with all the Star Wars-esque trademarks - lightsaber battles, flashbacks with Anakin and Obi-Wan, rebels without hope. But one thing ruined it for me, they wrote Vader totally out of character in the last scene. Vader would/should have killed Reva, no doubt about it. This is Vader, mind you, who has never had a problem killing anyone - kids, women included. But he doesn't kill Reva, who is - definite Force-sensitive threat to him in the future, because....she's Reva. Very disappointing, but not surprising because that's how all legacy characters are written these days. Weak. 6/10.

Great moments are still surrounded by poor ones.
adamsutter15 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My favourite episode of the series so far. But that's not saying much.

Good moments: Anakin v Obi-Wan flashback, Vader v Reva, Vader tearing ship to pieces, GI coming back, Jedi Temple massacre flashbacks.

Poor moments: Reva left alive by Vader, Empire attack was poorly done, boring characters I don't care about getting screen time, inconsistencies in Vader's goal (if he wants Obi-wan so bad then why didn't he get him in ep3?), poor writing all round.

Finally got some good flashbacks that made me smile. But also left me cold knowing what this show could have been instead of what we're getting. This show could have been amazing but instead it's average TV at best.

Lightsabers...the new backscratchers...and other dumb stuff.
FreddyShoop17 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Many people have pointed out the huge plot holes and dumb writing. While I knew people survived lightsaber severing injuries (e.g. Luke), this show is making a mockery of a light saber as a weapon. How many people need to get skewered in the chest/gut...with their internal organs severed and cooked, and spine severed/burned before they actually die?! The Reva/3rd Sister skewers the Grand Inquisitor, and he's doing better than ever. The super dangerous Darth Vader can't seem to kill Reva/3rd Sister no matter how many times he stabs her (once as a youngling and now). This is getting pathetic. I don't know where this Mary Sue got her plot armor, but the writers should take it back.

This, among other things, is why this series is so bad. Vader and Obi-Wan, great...lot of fun when they're chewing up scenery and you don't think too much. Everything else is pretty badly written. I mean with all the main characters having plot armor (Obi-wan, Vader, Luke, and Leia)...they should be dropping characters added to this series all the time (and introducing new ones.). They shouldn't be handing out more plot armor to every dang character. Without real danger, where is the drama? The only character they seem to have killed is actually one of the few decent actors (Tala). But who knows, maybe there's a bacta tank.

Children's programming. Disney sucks.

Why the low scores
lopezerac16 June 2022
I am so tired of fake Star Wars fans who are so toxic and who are review bombing this show because of their racism and insecurities. They all give Star Wars fans a bad name and I wish they would all go away. None of them, I bet were even alive for any of the original trilogy. And as far as I'm concerned, if you were not born at least before by '83, you will never be a OG Star Wars fan. So just give it up. This episode was truly spectacular. It showed what OG fans have been wanting to see for over 40 years...the true power of the dark side. I loved every frame of film in this episode.
