Oh my gosh - I broke.

Warning: Spoilers
Now, I'm a 32 y/o gay man and I like to think that I'm quite in charge of my emotions. I was never out in school - but my word, the part where Charlie says: "maybe I do just ruin peoples lives. Maybe it would be better if I didn't exist." Just absolutely broke me. I think this is a common LGBT+ experience - and I'm glad that this story is being told. Thank you all for this.

NICK!!!

Warning: Spoilers
After the climactic episode 7, the season finale was all fireworks. The acting is superb, especially from Kit Connor. Nick's coming out scene is the most powerful thing that has ever happened on this show. The way Kit portrays Nick's struggles is one of a kind. His mannerisms, his acting and the way he talks and all that, just WOW. Olivia Colman works so well as his mom too.

The insecurities of both Nick and Charlie are fully fleshed out. Just it feels so pure. To add the soundtrack onto that, this episode is IT.

Best coming out scene

Warning: Spoilers
I must say, we all know Olivia Colman is an amazing actress, but Kit Connor steals the scene. It's so well written and acted. So real, normal, without a fuss. No cheesy dialogs. A completely realistic scene. I loved it.

Watch twice through in 3 DAYS
piperthomas-6866424 May 2022
THIS SHOW HAD ME SMILING SO HARD MY CHEEKS HURT. I watched it all in one sitting. I felt so empty after that I decided to watch a couple of the episodes the very NEXT day right before work. THEN I binged it ALL for a second time in one sitting with my friend and got her obsessed as well. I had butterflies the entire show, they captured how it feels to fall for someone so effortlessly. Plus the realness of Nick googling and the conversation with his mom in the last episode. This show has my whole heart I am definitely going to watch it for a 3rd time. I NEEEED TO BUY THE GRAPHIC NOVELS ASAP BECAUSE I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT SEASON.

A beautiful end to such a beautiful show.

I was delighted with everything in this TV show, the story, the photography, the characters, everything was perfect, the entire cast did an excellent job and this final episode was very satisfying. I hope netflix renews this gem.

Watch. This. Show!

Absolutely beautiful from start to finish. Every single episode of this series is magical, my god the love and care that's been put into making this is exceptional. The casting, the characterisation, the transformation into a show, absolutely beautifully done. This is the kind of show that makes you realise what is possible out there in TV-land if only you get the right people who care.

This episode, though, to talk about it specifically, I wouldn't even know where to begin. The friendships, the burgeoning and actual romances, the standing up to bullies, the facing your fears - all of it - I just can't find the right words to tell you how wonderful it all is. Nick's coming out, all the parents being supportive, the teachers, the friendship groups... beautiful.

If you're wanting a happy little corner of the world which portrays the complexity of discovering your sexuality and living your truth as a teen - and how that'll in form adulthood - watch Heartstopper. I promise you it's worth every second.

Simply wonderful

This wee series on Netflix was sublime, beautiful, touching... you could go on. It makes one realise that despite everything we have moved in a positive way as a collective society.

See it, I wish I had this to watch when I was younger.

I love this episode!

Heartstopper is such a lovely and heartwarming story that got me through a rough time. It is focused on queer love and acceptance, which is so needed in the world right now. I love the relationship between Charlie and Nick, and I love the way the friendships are portrayed as real and loving and important. This show has brought me to tears multiple times, it is oh so good! If you are looking for some TV that will make you feel okay about the world, I recommend Heartstopper! The story, the way it adapts the comics, and the fan base are all parts of it that drew me to this show and I am so glad that I watched it.

So great, so uplifting... *so* should've ended here
emylye-139-32079321 December 2023
The problem with this lovely series is basically the problem of all TV: it doesn't EVER 'leave people wanting more' (cf John Cleese when he stopped making *Fawlty Towers* at the peak of its success) anymore.

Because it is made by greedy people who will throw money at something and wring every last drop of capitalist success out of it (killing it in the process)-and because the word 'fan' comes from 'fanatic'-when something is sweet and meaningful, well-acted and well-written, directed with intelligence and restraint...

... it cannot last. Had the show ended here, it would have the highest rating I can give, and the sentiment that EVERYONE should watch it, because it's truly a window into the fact that young LGBT kids are just struggling to find themselves and their place in the world. Their activism comes out of love and acceptance (finding their own self-acceptance and wanting it for everyone).

Unfortunately, as the series keeps going into Season 2, it begins to runs out of first the restraint and then the intelligence. It tries to add flat, un-nuanced characters and gives even some recurring ones almost nothing to work with. It makes Charlie so central that it begins to feel false and myopic. The plots trickle way into soap opera territory, the melodrama saddles the entire cast with humiliating scenes (I didn't think it was supposed to make me cringe constantly), and it all feels insanely like there was nothing more to say but people loved it so let's make more.

I loved spending time in these characters' world, but all good things should know when to end. This one doesn't.
