Worth the Bother
gensbill21 May 2021
Helen Mirren is always worth watching. Here she is a septuagenarian going on a journey looking back at her life of sadness and missed opportunities.

She does emotions well and gives an interesting portrayal as someone just coming to the realization of what she could have had and the life she might have lived -- had she tried.

Fantastic Act

I really fascinated by the way she acted. I'm from India so obviously didn't relate to the prom night scenarios. But I can feel it , I can imagine every words she said.

Reflections and coming to terms with age, past, and life.
blanbrn29 May 2021
This episode "Peg" from "Amazon Prime Video's" "Solos" starred Oscar winner Helen Mirren("The Queen") as Peg an older and aging woman who's found herself alone on a space shuttle who along with gravity is seeing and feeling her life drift and reach away to the farthest depths of space and the universe. Thru it all she reflects on life from her father dying of cancer when she was young, and seeing things change and come and go in life. Really this episode is a take on age and living out alone and leaving the past and being in the moment. Too the episode is a watch due to the performance of Helen Mirren.

Writing and Helen Mirrin -- Exquisite!
lightheartedbeing29 May 2021
All there was was a moving camera and Helen Mirrin sitting in a chair in a space capsule the whole time, and every instant was compelling. Brilliantly written, directed, and acted! I didn't recognize Dan Steven's voice as TYM at all. I happen to be 70, and the story telling, especially as a follow up to "Tom" was great, including the things we face as elders. There's a depth to these Solos that's rich and real.

Not sure if I like this episode because it was so exquisitely acted or because it was Helen Mirrin.

The 75 Year Old Helen Mirren
richardchatten25 December 2021
A fanciful hybrid of an Alan Bennett monologue and '2001' with Helen Mirren supposedly playing an 'ordinary' woman in her seventies fired into space. But with her hair swept back in a majestic Garboesque mane, decked out in a "fancy pants spacesuit", her magnificent profile to the camera, Dame Helen could never be taken for 'ordinary'.

Mirren's performance is exceptional, the character not so much.

Warning: Spoilers
As usual Mirren brings her A game to the proceedings and it somewhat elevates thus rather tedious affair. Nice to know that this is the daughter that we talked about in ep 2. However it looks like her father's death affected her greatly because in essence she's a loser. She's afraid to make decisions or commitments and it's caused her dearly throughout her whole life and so she laments to the naive A. I. ( and us ) for 25 minutes about lost opportunities simply because she's afraid of rejection or becoming a bother. That's not the kind of person I would ever favor. This show is definitely a hit and miss. Let's see what the rest have to offer.

The acting... wow
aline_lu15 July 2021
Just 10 minutes in and I was already blown away by her acting. She was sitting. Belts on!!! And still changed her voice, her hands, her face. Just... wow.

Flawless.

On point.

Peg was a delight to watch.

She had a whole episode speaking almost by herself and I felt so connected to her. The hurt. The happiness. The invisibility. The fearlessness. To travel. To go. To do. To not do. To regret.

Just wow.

Amazingly written. And the choices of camera and sound too.

A 10, definitely.

Helen Mirren saves the day
dfc-london1020 October 2021
It's a bit hard to place Helen Mirren as being this shy unabashedly British lady (Oh I don't want to be a bother).

It goes to show her acting skills. It feels a bit weird that she's in a space ship. They could have set her in a home with a fireplace and made it more meaningful.

It's a bit far-fetched, and ultimately hard to enjoy, unless you're into sci-fi and listening to people reminiscing about their regrets.

Kept me watching...
Yag2j23 May 2021
But I switched off a few times. Helen Mirren is great as always and there's something here that many will relate to. It just didn't keep me interested enough. Also why do people keep going on about farting in this show. Was the creator like we HAVE to mention farting lol.

Helen -back again!
sandx28 January 2022
I nearly gave up on this , having watched the first couple of shorts , then magic happened. Helen Mirren did a one-hander that was truly 'out of this world'.

An object lesson in acting.

I urge all aspiring actors to watch and learn.

Fake and cheap
kaktusztea226 May 2021
I don't know if it's the writing or the acting, but it just felt fake. They wanted to grab and squize our tear bags. It's sentimental, but not in the good way. It's cheesy, packed with emotionaly "effective" items. It's built - not written.

And the song at the end... just cheap.
