Interesting and addictive
rcolon-eonium6 March 2023
While the show is not a masterpiece, it fulfills its purpose gracefully and the cast is what it should, we are not going for an prize here but even Irene, not so experienced as the other actors, does it's role as a real Madrid posh girl, insecure and that thinks everything will be easy.

The boys feel like real suburb dangerous ones and J. Coronado and the rest of the cast do a good job having in mind that is a TV show with a limited budget.

If compared with similar shows, the way each episode end with a cliffhanger is simply impressive and as I see, hate actors is without doubt not positive at all and even dislike the show is an opinion to be respected, is not fair to blame on one actor or actress.

Entertaining, sarcastic ,good acting except for Irene
sandrakatz30 May 2022
Having Coronado and Luis Zehara -top caliber actors- contrast to the horrible acting of Irene, the granddaughter!!! Hard to understand. She will probably be a great model , not an actress

Besides that, the tough situation of the poor in Madrid, the immigrants , the drug addicts, the way dealers took over hole barrios , the inefficiency of the police and the vicious circle they live in is well illustrated. Language used is as sarcastic as it can be. Hope the English translation honors that sarcasm.

Good series except the granddaughter
lucienm-6032120 May 2022
This Spanish series is indeed very good !!!

Grandfather is trying his best to save his granddaughter.

Great casting in the actor playing the grandfather !!!

The only downside to this series: the actress, playing the teenage grandaughter, is way too old for that role.

Not good casting for that role..

Zero empathy for the granddaughter
lilly-6868627 May 2022
I like the show because there a tons of teenagers like her out there and it would be nice to see someone do something about it. But I have zero understanding and empathy with her . It makes me so angry watching it ! Wouldn't help her anymore... not sure why the grandfather doesn't see it ... that's why I can't keep watching the show .

Excellent
tux-124 March 2023
Most reviews highlight the imperfections of the series. I accept that some of the stories, such as the Nelson/Irene permanent changes of mind, are a bit silly. But forget all unbelievable sides of the story, the telenovella look of it, and just have fun at the dialogues. If you can put aside your natural critical mind, just listening to Gladys (Laura Ramos) and Tirso (José Coronado) will make you laugh out loudly. I could add that Nona Sobo/Irene is not as bad as other reviewers judge her. I think they they confuse the role and the actress because her character is indeed a bit irritating. With the same duo of lead actors (Coronado and Luis Zahera) I enjoyed this series better than Unauthorized Living which is very good too, but not funny.

Terrible granddaughter
jihad-5327624 May 2022
The granddaughter is a real fiasco. She's so far from the basic needs for acting. All the effort done was gone by this poor casting. She ruined the whole series.

Jose and Luis - a great double act!
sue-0623920 May 2023
The chemistry between actors Jose Coronado and Luis Zahera - so great in an earlier drama Unauthorised Living - is brilliant in this series too. Zahera is just totally scene-stealing in every moment on screen as the flawed but funny and charming cop Eziquiel.

I love Coronado in everything and he plays Tirso, a grumpy, racist, belligerent man with some hilarious one-liners and insults. The friendship and banter among him and his two ex Army friends is totally believable and so funny.

There are so many good performances and for me the development of Tirso as a person was much more interesting than the "Romeo and Juliet" story of the very irritating Irene and her lover, Nelson. The actress playing gang leader Nata was excellent.

This is a drama with violence but very funny in parts. I loved it and hope that there will be a third series soon.

Netflix probably said: "Make it last 8 episodes"
rgb-0317827 May 2022
Unnecessarily drawn out. Could have been wrapped up in 4.

Actors are good except for the granddaughter.

Tirso's character is too Jack Nicholson in "As good as it gets" and is tiresome.

I must be missing it
Sexyjay7130 June 2022
The granddaughter did am excellent job. Her reactions to different situations was right on point. What am I missing with the negative reviewers saying "the young lady messed up the show with her non-acting skills ". I don't agree with that, she is on point with her acting and it's a great tv show.

The granddaugther ruins the whole show
pcting22 May 2022
I would of given a 7, not a bad series. Who ever cast the granddaughter really ruined the whole show. She cannot act and was it really necessary to cast an Asian for the role just to emphasize how racist the grandfather is.

How to ruin a good show in 1 step
Cickyy25 May 2022
I liked the idea of the show, but whoever chose Irene did a horrible job. You rarely see an actress this talentless. She gets more and more annoying, and not in a good way (Joffrey in GoT, where he did such a spectacular job in playing his role), she is just bad... I probably would've rated a 7 or 8 if someone else would've played Irene.

Impossibly worst act of the granddaughter
pitagreene22 July 2022
How is it possible to put the amazing Coronado next to this amateur actress so talentless? Entertaining series, but very spoiled in every scene with her acting.

Subversion of Expectations from Title and Description
lord-horn-asstr22 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
From reading the description, you'd think this is a movie where a war vetran is pushed out of his comfort zone and decides to take on those who have wronged him.

Incorrect. That just does not happen.

Instead, the main hero (the veteran) is a weak-ish kind of a hero who talks. And talks. Then, talks even more. There is very less action. The villains are not scary at all. The biggest problem is that the hero is inactive. In all of the 10 episodes, the hero only fights twice. And that too duck-bang-bang-duck-bang-gotcha way. In trying to make this more "realistic" they have forgotten that the hero needs to be active AND the hero needs to be able to handle the problems. The hero (veteran's) friends are also a sorry bunch who are also inactive.

You can tell this series is not getting an extension for another season, when in season 1, out of 10 episodes, the veteran "thinks" about getting back at the bad guys in Episode 5!

Slow burn? More like NO BURN.

Had potential. Fizzled out.

Very good
gbrown-264795 August 2022
I enjoyed the show. Good storyline and love the actors. Can't wait for season 2. Jose Coronado is always good at his parts. A very good street thug story as well as family love.

good plot line couple of weak and strong points
d-papadakis25 May 2022
I liked the plot line in this story and the writing was pretty funny ("you have the psychological depth of a doorknob"; that's funny). I agree with the comments about the granddaughter.

Me personally, I would watch this series just to see Itziar Atienza, who has to be one of the most beautiful women breathing. She alone is worth the watch.

What's up with all the hate?
lmgeew2 March 2023
If you are a fan of old Clint Eastwood movies, you'll probably like this series. Sure, it can be corny at times, but it's still entertaining. Not every show can be Oscar worthy. All the venom spewing at the granddaughter character wreaks of racism!! She is not any worse than any of the other characters. She was able to cry while acting in a variety of scenes which can't be easy. The hate in these reviews towards her is really over the top, so it is not just about her acting! The grandfather is a very exceptional actor though, and is perfect for this role. I enjoyed the little mix of comedy in with the drama.

I beg to differ, the granddaughter was great!
doug-4149516 June 2022
Wow, I can't believe all the negative comments about the granddaughter! Her acting was actually very good. I watched the entire series and most of the time she nailed it with her reaction to various stimuli within the story. The writing itself was pretty good but not great, which is why I didn't give it a higher rating. All in all this series will keep your interest. Make your own judgements about the granddaughter's acting. Personally, I think she did a good job.

Jose Coronado is great again, as usual.
tosti357 September 2022
José Coronados character, Tirso, is one of those characters that everyone will hate especially in the first few episodes. Eventually he'll grow on you. Don't get me wrong, he is still a very angry and racist bitter old man but at least you'll be able to see another side of him. Also he is extremely sarcastic which is hilarious in itself. I found myself laughing out loud at his one liners and superbly timed come backs. Can't wait for season 2 to come to Netflix. Any show or movie Jose Coronado is in is bound to be great, e.g. The Invisible Guest.

Each episode is longer than the average show but truly worth it.

Looking forward to Season 3
rpahlow-137085 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Well written and we'll acted. Looking toward Tirso and Gladys continuing story. Both their actors did a wonderful job. Watching Tirso grow as a person with Gladys's help was a real treat. The back story of the three amigos is a great frame of friendship and loyalty. The Amanda portrayal was also very good. She played the part with warmth and just the right amount of intensity. Ezekiel really added a lot to the story. Watching him play all sides against each other and trying to make sure everyone survived was quite clever. We watched this from start to finish and we're sorry to see it end. Sounds like most of the characters will be back and that is good.

Watch it in one night!
fredmondbr2 June 2022
A great series with an ensemble of great actors, as others have mentioned the grand daughter (irene) lets the show down, it is a comedy/crime show so don't take it seriously, great entertainment.

Entertaining, don't expect much more
thesaintcouk30 May 2022
A good story and good photography, the acting by several of the actors leaves something to be desired, especially the granddaughter and her boyfriend.

Entertaining, watchable and engaging.

You get tired...
Otte123 October 2022
Wow....lets start with the granddaughter. Is it so hard to find a young person who can act? This actress has the same face regardless of the situation, outside of petulance, very little other emotion comes through. The writing and direction is dependent on the characters making the wrong choice in most of the scenes. There are multiple situations that can be resolved with a couple of words but instead the writing uses the 'don't tell (insert name)' or 'promise me you you will (insert lame promise). Other piece is there is very little character motivations to define what they do...instead the writer/director have the character do whatever is needed to keep the drama going.

I understand the show is trying to tackle multiple issues, illegal immigration, racism, marriage dysfunction, police corruption, retirement, teenage angst, drug dealers, criminal association, forbidden love, gentrification and much much more...but with so much manufactured drama it is hard to know what is real and soon...you don't even care.

Fine characters
marazodonald12 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Excellent acting and character portrayals. Twists and turns introduced in every episode of this fine writing and directing of a mini-series. This has certainly been worth the time watching "Wrong side of the tracks." Real life is displayed which prompts me to keep watching. This review is certainly worth an array of ten star ratings. The cast and crew certainly deserve an award of best of something. Oh, a whole lot of needless language and other loving women stuff but part of today. I just enjoy fine performances by talented actors. The grandfather finally coming to his senses about being bias. Respect all walks of life.

Ok series with awful dumb characters (granddaughter, boyfriend and boyfriend's mother)
phultra7 March 2023
Heard good things about this series but...the granddaughter, ger boyfriend and his mother are the worst! Unlikeable, obnoxious characters! I'm on episode 4 and i don't know if a can keep going...really, they make the worst decisions, they show no respect, for no one! The boyfriend and his mother simply invaded the home of the elderly he sent to hospital, just like that! And the mother walks around like everyone else is wrong, the main plot is basic, they took a Charles Bronson/Liam Neeson character and made a show around it, but the drama brings it down and i have to point out that the protagonist is kinda over the top sometimes, too 90's macho Gran Torino wannabe...
