Ralph has no common sense. When he knows that his skinflint boss is visiting him, he goes nuts. He buys champagne, expensive cigars, and caviar. He thinks that showing off will get him a promotion. When the guy gets there, he is an absolute boor. Norton lightens things up, much to Ralph's chagrin, but after that it is a downhill spiral. You do have to give Ralph credit. He is the eternal optimist.
