In Development

Warning: Spoilers
Although it's a slow start adapting to the new characters- i liked the ending of the first episode which "opens many doors" wonderful to see Nicholas L, in the cast - for i have UK heritage, looking forward to which direction this will lead. I hope Kelsey does more "Jack Benny" mannerisms in which he's perfected, having a live audience gives me a joy so much- may this new adventure have a very long series. In this time of conflict we need more of these types of semi fictional live comedies- we need to release our sadness of what is happening around us. I also hope there's no violence, graphic scenes and swearing, I am nearly 70 and feel people should have a wide choice of content on streaming services.

A Welcome Return
jameswyattranks13 October 2023
While I had fears and doubts for this return, I have to say this episode put me at ease. It may not yet possess the same spark and magic as the show initially did and certain characters not being there is definitely felt, it does very well in its starting of a new chapter that I feel I could definitely get on board with.

It has some nice callbacks and references to the first show, a couple of funny moments and focuses well on the emotion of the current situation the characters are going through. It even adds a couple of interesting new characters that I can't wait to explore more.

It also makes me wonder what other sitcom characters would be like 20 years later. It's fun to think about.

The Good Father
studioAT6 January 2024
I wasn't overly struck on the original ending for 'Frasier', so wasn't that bothered about the bow being unravelled for this new series.

I can't say I was bothered that Niles and Daphne weren't in it - it's called 'Frasier' after all.

I thought this reboot opened well, and it's credit to the writers that they went straight in with the sort of big farce episode that the original did really really well.

Throw in the always brilliant Nicholas Lyndhurst and a sense of genuine heart and I have to say that I am on board with this show.

It's a familiar enough set-up, and yet it feels new. If only the 'Joey' spin-off had been so good.

Not the same, but man
ashleeyoung-1020613 October 2023
I didn't know how much I would cry watching the first episode. My husband and I have rewatched the original series several times. We love the late John Mahoney (Martin). He is one of the best characters from the original series. He was the best. I cried like a baby the last few minutes of the first episode. Well-done!! Thank you for honoring him.

This may not be the same show, but I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out. I love the twist of Frasier and Freddy's relationship compared to Frasier and Martin. I love the new characters too. David is a hoot. We will miss our old familiar characters. We are excited to watch more!

Episode 1

Warning: Spoilers
Not having any other returning castmembers makes it difficult to call this Frasier. Simpy compare the show to reboots like Roseanne/The Conners or And Just Like That as shows that brought almost everyone back.

But the show's signature style of humor and how it is a slightly smarter take on the laughtrack/multi-cam cliche was there. This felt very authentic to Frasier and felt like the real deal.

I am not sure if the new supporting cast will click, it was really a mixed bag with a handful of very awkward moments, but it could get better over time.

They certainly paid tribute to John Mahoney/Martin Crane well though.

There is a live studio audience ... The laughter is NOT canned
steve-9386115 October 2023
I don't understand why people think they've put in a fake laugh track. There is a live studio audience. Just like when The Big Bang Theory was on. My brother and sister-in-law went to a taping in Hollywood and were part of a similar audience of TBBT. That being said, during one of new Frasier episodes, there were several overeager audience members being overly loud when the jokes weren't particularly funny.

Ok - about the show. I would say that "relief" is the best word that came to mind. Is it perfect? No. Just like S1 of the original Frasier, it took a while for the characters to gel together. For being the first two shows with a mostly new cast in the new Frasier, I think they did great.

I have high hopes for Frasier 2.0. Maybe "And Just Like That" can hire these writers for when they have spare time. This new Frasier "feels" like the old one, whereas many of the characters in AJLT seemed to have had frontal lobotomies during the last 20 years (Miranda, anyone?)

Kelsey, thanks for staying true to the story of Frasier. I'm betting that by Episode 5, this is going to feel fully baked, and let's hope this can last for many years.

Caviar Returns to Bean Town
milesrdavis13 October 2023
From the start, I have held back any hope of being pleased with this reboot. Fool me once, twice, thrice or more times, shame on you...

But they did the impossible and managed to recapture the same feeling I've looked to relive through countless streamings of reruns over the years.

Kelsey Grammer's return couldn't have been timed better, with the deluge of junk content that has been spewing out at us, I genuinely forgot how to enjoy a sitcom all the way through an episode.

The way they memorialize John Mahoney made a genuinely touching moment; recognizing the significance of that relationship while not hinging the episode on it was skillfully and respectfully executed.

There's some growing pains to be found, but much as the first season of the original had its flaws, there is so much potential. The new actors are mostly great, and I like that the whole thing has a familiar dynamic whole being something new.

As a diehard Frasier fan, I cannot emphasize too strongly the need to blow this show up with watches and reviews. We've waited this long for something good to come along. Don't you dare ruin this for me.

Just..no
robinta1967-19-49743813 October 2023
I viewed the news of the reboot with trepidation. I love the original series, and probably watch frasier at least every other day, having seen every episode dozens of times.

It's fair to say it is one of my favourite programmes of all time.

The news that none of the original case other than Kelsey Grammar were returning, also didn't fill me with excitement.

But, I still wanted to try it regardless.

It's awful.

Frasier the character is actually fine, but the ensemble cast is not.

The original was brilliantly written, and although episodes could be farcical and over the top, there was usually a charm and sweetness to the characters.

Here, all the main actors are caricatures, ridiculously over the top and hamming up their performances.

Nicolas Lyndhurst is miscast as Frasier's sardonic colleague/friend, and Freddy tries to hard to gurn for laughs.

The worst character has to be David though.

Set up as a Niles replacement he is in fact Sheldon Mark 2 and is just not funny.

Overall, this is just another american sitcom.

No charm or subtlety.

I can see why the original cast members passed on the project.

Sorry Kelsey, some things have had their time.

Very familiar yet strikingly new. Superb!
rrtiverton12 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I know that by the 11 season of the previous Frasier series, it had grown quite stale, and it was about time for it to conclude.

This new series feels like it has a lot of the same underpinnings, yet it is refreshing. Kelsey Grammer has finely aged the character and there is no pretense that this picks up exactly where the old left off. Excellent mix of characters and a mix of crisp dialog and some rather remarkable slapstick. It took a few clicks for the first episode to find a footing, but once it did, it just took off.

.Anders Keith feels quite adept with the physical comedy as Niles and Daphne's son, David, tagging along with Uncle Frasier.

Very touching tributes in the pilot to both Martin Crane and John Mahoney.

I wish the series well!

It is worse than I anticipated
jpapanone15 October 2023
I've actually been rewatching Frasier last month or so and was almost done when I saw the promos for this new version. I've heard rumblings and grumblings and thought that it was actually happening, but didn't know that it would be happening October 2023.

I saw the 2 minute trailer...and saw a 20 or 30 minute promo for it.

And what I saw made me have very low expectations. I've seen enough things remade, that I know it just never works...yet continues to be attempted.

Shows work bc of a combination of things. Timing, actors, characters, writers, directors, culture, timing etc etc...and on top of that where I, the viewer, happen to be in my/their life. All of that needs to gel in order to make it the right show at the right time with the right people. Very hard to capture lightning in a bottle twice. Frasier limped along as a shell of it's former self the last 3 seasons...and that was withamy of the elements that worked. So now...time has passed and everything... EVERYTHING is different.

This COULD work.

But this writing, these actors, this acting, these stories...nope.

One supporting member is worse than the next. Nephew David is terrible. The son is awful. The...whatever she is...wide girlfriend...awful. The older friend. Nope.

The dean or whatever of Harvard. Holy mother of all that is holy.

This is a typical 21st century American sitcom. Garbage.

I plan on suffering through all of them just so I can say I watched them...but they will be, I'm sure, instantly forgettable.

Fingers crossed there are some redeeming scenes...but I doubt there will be any .. A rug.....where a rug doesn't belong.

Or I'm not gay Guy Or "Her lips said no but her eyes said read my lips"- Niles

This show worked bc of xyz. They have removed xyz.

This doesn't need to exist and will be forgotten before it is finished.

Not something I needed but so happy it exists
tarascopablo31 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Frasier is, IMO, one of the best sitcoms ever. Frasier is right there along Seinfeld, Friends and, of course, Cheers. Back then when the series ended originally i felt pretty satisfied with how everything ended for the titular characters (Roz, Daphne, Niles, Marty and Frasier) and when i heard they were thinking of taking the series back i was worried it was going to be bad but just after watching the first episode i know the writers took on the original spirit of the series and the humor. My oh my, what a thrill it is to have the good doctor in the house. Let´s see how the series ends but it promises to be very good.

I´m listening...

Kelsey Grammer is a force of nature.
Racingphan215 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
How do you reboot one of the greatest sitcoms of all time? The Conners is doing pretty well, but rebooting Frasier without most of the greatest cast of actors in decades. (The Night Court disaster anyone?) Well, this works. Partly because Grammer as Frasier is just a powerhouse actor. Also, the directors and writers are amazingly talented veterans. And the decision to go with a live audience was genius.

Remember the first episode of the original Frasier? The characters were over the top and forced. Yet the show quickly found its way.

There are lots if belly laughs here, even as the characters set scenes. And the roomate of Frasiers son is amazingly hot. Smoking.

Next up, (hopefully), Scrubs?

Enjoyable Enough...
jancapek-cz15 October 2023
While the first episode of "New Frasier" confirms that the standard of 1993-2004 may not be attainable, with Niles Crane leaving too big a gap to fill by his son, the creators have managed to avoid desecrating the show's past. Which is quite an accomplishment, considering the odds.

It's still too early to pass final judgment on the entirety of Frasier Season 12 (or is it Season 1? My TV says "The Good Father" is S1E1), but the first episode was enjoyable enough to leave me eager for more. In fact, I found it quite charming, and am so happy they attempted the reboot. As a huge fan of Frasier, I look forward to the rest of the season. I also appreciate the show's absence of moralizing and political agendas, which is quite refreshing in today's landscape.

Canned laughter! Really? It's 2023
wainjohnstone14 October 2023
I was excited to pick up on one of my all time favourite sitcoms even without the most important characters It's been 20 years since it was last on our screens. A lot has changed. Especially in the world of comedy. The old Frasier is back. Frasier himself is the same character that we love. The new characters are not terrible and in fact are quite interesting.

But, the show has canned laughter. Just like the original series. We really, really don't need to be told when to laugh these days. Have confidence in your writing. Or write better. Either way ditch the.laugh track and let's get a bit more current.

Great Reboot!
sarabeth-9108318 October 2023
I loved every bit of it.. I have watched the old show probably at least 8 times all the way through. The Reboot has very similar humor and jokes with a lot of nods to the previous show. It brought me so much comfort watching the reboot. Kelsey jumped right back into his character! I was worried that without Niles, they show wouldn't be the same... but having his nephew with the same quirks as Niles really made it special. I read a USA Today article that called the new show dull and boring. I couldn't disagree more. Don't take that articles word for it.... WATCH IT FOR YOURSELF IF YOUR A FRASIER LOVER!

Why? Just why?
atticus20045326 October 2023
When I heard they were producing a sequel to Frasier, I must say I wondered why. They say less is more and in this case that hits the nail on the head. I watched with open mouth at how bad this is. Not even the sublime Kelsey Grammer could save this from being a sad parody of a genius programme that needed no reviving. I've always been mystified why people think so highly of Nicholas Lyndhurst. He can't act for toffee and was the spare wheel to David Jason in Only Fools and Horses. His posh professor's accent jarred on me the same way as his Cockney twang did in OFAH. Mind you, the obvious canned laughter was worse and did little to remedy that. Without the regular characters in it, this revamped version seems as false as a painting by numbers depiction of the Mona Lisa. Again, why try to improve on a masterpiece?

Casting genius
rider-8284716 October 2023
It's no surprise that I, along with all other Frasier fans, love Kelsey Grammer's performance. I also already had a fondness for Nicholas Lyndhurst. What did surprise me was how much I liked Anders Keith's performance; Jeff Greenberg is obviously a genius! David IS a young Niles! If that boy(Anders) is not related to David Hyde Pierce, he must've studied his character extensively! I was worried about missing DHP and John Mahoney to the point of not caring enough for the series but these 2 episodes have quashed that fear! Terrific cast, Terrific characters and a Terrific show! I cannot wait for more of this!

Great opener, better than originals
SunnyDaise22 December 2023
Having mixed feelings about the original Frasier/Cheers, I wasn't particularly excited about this continuation, however I really enjoyed this opener - the younger generation represent the past well to give good role reversal but also reflect today when University is losing its appeal for many and practical skills / doing what you love is having a much needed come-back. Whilst I'm a teeny/big bit disappointed fur baby Eddie has been replaced by skin baby John, aptly named after John Mahoney who played Frasier's dad, this is a great mix of often daft-but-fun comedy and sadness to give the show depth on that psychological level which the Doctor is so dedicated too. Series comebacks / reboots have been a real risk in the past, but there does seem to be more respect for show histories these days and several recent ones seem to have worked out - Frasier '23 is definitely so far so good, will see how Ep 2 goes.
