Honganasu: Unveiling the Peaks and Valleys of an experimental journey
Vashista-Bhat28 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Honganasu is a kind of experimental movie in Kannada Cinema. This is the second collaboration between Rathnaja and Prem, after Nenapirali. I liked Prem's acting, and he has done well in his role. Sharan and Shobhraj have also done well, and I loved those comedy scenes. Anuradha Mehta who plays the role of Prem's yet to be sister-in-law is so immature in her role, and she wasn't the ideal fit. The other heroine Anjali is fine.

Coming to the Technical Aspects, the Script of Honganasu is OK. I somehow felt dissatisfied with the Screenplay written by Rathnaja, as it pales in front of the Screenplay he had written for Nenapirali. I felt the narration pace to be very good in the 1st Half, but there is a lag in the 2nd Half with significant holes. If we compare the Direction of Rathnaja in Nenapirali to this Film, this unfortunately pales in front of that. But I loved all the songs in this album, and Yes, Honganasu is an album with no bad songs. Rathnaja tries to show the affection and attachment between Prem and his yet to be sister-in-law as pure and transparently honest, but fails as the Screenplay here is so unrealistic, with no authenticity. The script is spoiled because of this unrealistic Screenplay. Dialogues are OK, and I loved the BGM (Background Music) of Hamsalekha, which is very good.

Even the way in which characters are developed in Honganasu is somewhat dissastisfactory, as Prem's elder brother character has no scope at all, which again links with the unrealistic Screenplay. Editing is also very poor, and Cinematography is satisfactory.

If not for that affection and attachment concept between Prem and his yet to be sister-in-law, this could have been a very good film. But the director missed the trick. If the Script is about affection and attachment between the Hero and his Sister-in-law with great scope given to elder brother's character, the Film would have been in the list of great films. Also this is the kind of movie that perhaps Vishnuvardhan should have done in the 1980s. Anyhow, Honganasu is an experimental Film which is let down by silly mistakes the Director could have avoided.

My Rating: 5/10

Verdict: Average.
