FINALLY!
Makulit21 September 2023
FINALLY! A costume period drama that actually portrays a loving, affectionate couple. This show has a lot of sweet moments with a good amount of action, comedy, and suspense thrown in. The chemistry between the male and female leads is amazing. The actor who played the general did a great job in portraying a strong and stoic figure. I love how he evolved as the story went on. The female lead is cute and she really played her part well.

I just wasn't too fond of the secondary leads/couples in this drama. I just didn't care about them very much. I just didn't find them interesting, especially the female lead's maid, Rou Rou's love story. I found her character a bit annoying. I actually fast forwarded the show during her scenes with her boyfriend.

I still enjoyed watching this drama though.

I'll definitely re-watch this show again.

Loved it

This was the first really soppy historical romance that I came across after watching The Wolf, and Empress Ki. Those borough on completely different levels to a generals lady which I found more on the comedy and light Romance but still very much enjoyed!.

I really enjoyed The General 's Lady. This series was really cute and romantic. I found it very funny and light-hearted..

I loved all the characters they worked so well together this was the first time seeing all these actors in a drama so I cannot wait to see what other dramas they are in and saying how the acting has developed.

I do feel the ending was rushed, I would of loved more of the story from the other characters as well.

I still love this drama and I come back to watch it every couple of months. Totally recommend.

So romantic

Warning: Spoilers
Strange enough, I started watching this costume drama from the middle of the story, planning to drop it after an episode. And then I had no chance, as I was carried away by emotions and a light-hearted, romantic atmosphere of the story. Due to the fine cast and natural acting of FL and ML, representing opposite characters - lively young lady and ice-hearted general, I paid less attention to the plot drawbacks - sometimes lack of logic, cliches, gaps in narration, rushed ending. As it turned out, the story in drama has little to do with that of the original novel. The scriptwriters focused mostly on the love-story and after-marriage conflicts, overlooking details of mysterious investigation and court affairs. A surprising end, though, explains a lot. Well, what makes the drama interesting is, to my mind, unexpected twists, constant bantering of the married couple, their attitude to family and friends. Main characters develop through the story, overcome hardships together. There's a certain moral, wisdom to be found here - opposites attract, but in the long run they should learn to live together, trust each other, express their minds. Altogether, the acting, the romance storyline, OST, costumes, visual effects are all done at a high level, you may laugh and cry, feel happy and sad - such a rollercoaster of emotions it is.

Extremely entertaining

I happened to see this by chance and started watching it because I liked Caesar Wu's acting in Meteors Garden. I enjoyed the entire series immensely. Loved the interplay between the couple. I found Caesar's portrayal of the general to be very endearing and you can't help but keep watching for the next episode. I hope these 2 are going to be in season 2.

Simple and sweet but nothing special about it
hanalisss27 August 2022
Simplest script ever to exist.

This feels and looks like a low budget production although they make it work so its not too evident.

This doesn't have a lot of different characters either and the only storylines are focused on the main leads.

Short and uncomplicated love story, with some sweet moments. Me personally I didn't feel any chemistry whatsoever though.

Another thing I have to say is that the silly music they use on the lighthearted scenes drove me off the wall, i guess they wanted to give a more light or comic aura to the show but it just makes it cheap.

If you are looking for a non complicated short romance show this will be the one for you.

Would be better if not framed by the idea that a woman is always right
debbiecheryllayne4 June 2023
I watched and enjoyed it as light entertainment. Loved the action scenes, have some exceptional moments. However, as a female, I find this leaning to the idea that a woman is always right the absolute height of stupidity.

The lead female character does a lot of silly things and only wants to be right. When she is right k cheer for her but when this modern feminism becomes the mirror image of the oppression of what women have experienced for centuries, this is dangerous and nowhere funny. If you have never been right 100% of the time at school, how can you be always right in a relationship with another human being when the way you see and process info is often different. And in these dramas too often infected negatively by social norms and the accusation of a lack of filial piety.

But to see two people do similar things and the man is only wrong, that is crap. Indeed, the writers are ignoring the fact that the media can influence how we interact with the. World around. Having been black, female and from the third world the impact of media on social thought to its detriment is clear.

Just be fair. There is a difference between equality and pretending to give women a hand's up while trampling the individual rights of Men. There are two things black women can't escape, being black women and seeing black men trampled by everyone in the name of superiority which is just a mask for greed. Does entertaining women have to be a hazard for men? Why? Who is that insecure that you undermine the fabric of your society for viewership? Indeed, the insecure determines lot of media content. But what is going on in China that someone believes and teaches that women cannot be told they are wrong because hurting a woman's feelings is detrimental to women. If not for that foolish mentality that picture would have been the bomb. Love doesn't demand never saying sorry or thank you and it doesn't need a denial of facts or reality. There's nothing more annoying in these series than a group or individuals who are never said to be wrong.
