I cried some.. but Im very content with this end.
MoistMovies11 March 2022
Really satisfying but sad ending, the reflection of all the great characters that died over the series.. I just hope the final movie doesn't mess up this perfect ending to a series. I may not like Netflix in some capacities.. but without them series like the last kingdom and dark... two of the greatest series of there genres in history. Both knew how to writer perfectly right until the end. Very Rare not just these days, but throughout history of television/series.

GOT & Vikings should take notes from this Ending
shayanarshad10 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Now this is what a finale must feel like for these kind of genres.

It all about acheiving your ultimate dream but it all depends on the cost that one must pay to fulfill that dream. Uthred faced a similar fate.

He is now a true Lord and Bebbanburg is now under his rule and only his. But look at the price he had to pay. He lost his lovely wife, his childhood friend, his estemmed warrior Leofric, Alfred whom he considered his King, his lover Aetheflaed who died in his arms, Father Beoca who was like a father figure to him. And adding to his mysery, his eldest son was castreted thus ending his fatherly bloodline.

If you consider the ending, you shall come to relealize that whenever you set your goals, you must consider the endless sacrifices and compromises that you will have to make. This show just portrayed this life lesson in the perfect way possible.

Adios Uthred. The true Lord of Bebbanburg.

Perfect ending
Calicodreamin11 March 2022
The perfect ending to cap off an amazing final season. The characters were all given their moments, both past and present. A wonderful retrospective and a lingering hope that Uhtred may know peace.

Intense, Bittersweet Finale.
bbevis-4795415 March 2022
I will miss this show. What The Last Kingdom manages to do with not even a quarter of the budget shows like the wheel of time have is remarkable. I remember reading an article several years ago discussing the Last Kingdom and how great of a show it is, and I am so glad I followed that recommendation and started to watch this gem of a show. Season five was excellent and what hurts the most is you can see remnants of the sixth season being setup. Even with that said it was nice to see the fighting finally cease and we can let the characters continue to prosper in our imaginations. The Last Kingdom is another excellent show that does not have the attention or marketing budget it deserves. Thank you to all the cast and crew who worked on this show to provide fans like myself countless hours of entertainment. Your hard work will be missed.

What an amazing way to end the show.

This proves that good endings can still happen with epic sprawling shows. Every plotline resolved, satisfying endings, and no sudden character shifts or subversions just to have subversions. A great ending to a great show.

Perfect finale
maryhayden10 March 2022
This is how to close out a TV series. Storylines tied up. Characters fulfilling their destinies. One of the most exciting medieval battles I've ever seen in any series or movie. This is an exemplar for a finale.

I got emotional
freddieprinze7914 March 2022
This last season really pulled at my heartstrings. The ending was perfect. There is no need for another season. As much as I loved it they closed it out with perfection. This is going to go down as arguably one of the most underrated series of all times. It deserves a cult like following. Who knows maybe after this season it gets one.

Phenomenal.

Warning: Spoilers
I wish I could give this show 11 out of 10 because it is THAT good, every episode had me intrigued and I cared about the characters, the battle scenes were amazing and the acting was brilliant from everyone.

Alexander Dreymon is a brilliant actor and played Uhtred perfectly, then there is Millie Brady who was stunning and so good as Aethelflaed, I cried when her character died, and to the other characters, Sihtric, Finan, Osferth, Brida and Haesten who were all fantastic.

Thank you to all involved in making this amazing show, my only complaint is that it had to end.

To Bebanburg!!! One of the all time best series finales ever made
terrylarosa14 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD: Only Spartacus finale is better. Uthred comes full circle and achieves his life long ambition in an action packed, suspense filled and emotionally fueled episode. Throughout the season most of the cast have shined giving stellar performances; none more so than Uthred and a surprisingly likable Aileswith who was once a hated character. She proves what Alfred saw in her as a wise, loyal strong woman and is now one of Uthred's most loyal supporters. Even Haesten came through at the end at the cost of his own life. An emotion crammed season as several major characters saw their end; some very surprising. Always a joy to see Sithric and Finan as the most dependable and loyal of men. Almost heartrending to see Bebanburg nearly come to an end only to have rain come down and save it at the last moment.

The cliff dropping scene while not new was as suspenseful as you can get. If you look closely Edward was in the penultimate row before the push off was routed. The final scene with Uthred as he reminisces is exactly what I was hoping to see. Dreymon put it all into this season and his Uthred can now stand proudly next to Spartacus, Ragnar, Lagertha and Jon Snow as the greatest characters in a medieval type show. Many shows falter in their last season but here TLK made it its best. Well done!!!

Fantastic

Warning: Spoilers
I remember finding and watching the first season, fingers crossed there'd be a second season, each year that would happen. I'm heartbroken it's over but what a ride! This really was the perfect ending, the ultimate battle, the fire at Bebbanburg, the memories of all the characters it took to get here. Bravo to all the actors and the amazing crew, I can't imagine the work they put into this, I'm sure it was literal blood, sweat and tears. I'm excited for the movie, I hope it gives the entire series a beautiful polish. Utred son of Utred finally takes Bebbanburg.

FINALLY a good series finale
vinny2times13 March 2022
After GOT, Vikings, and Dexter (twice) it was so refreshing to actually get a good series finale! The whole season was great, but the finale was basically perfect. Well done - can't wait for the movie!

DESTINY IS ALL
makinci-5267324 March 2022
What a show and what a finale to a final season!

This should be a reference for future shows on how to end a series in style. The two years of wait was well worth the wait and then some.

Farewell Uthred; the true lord of Bebbanburg, you will be greatly missed.

Definitely the worst episode of the whole series
stef200016 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was, guess I still am a big fan of Last Kingdom. But I do not get the praise (9,6!) for the final episode.

Instead of a grande finale you get a completely ridiculous battle (the stand off at the cliff was the most unrealistic, actually laughable moment of the whole show) and a sloppily written Hollywood happy end that is totally unfitting to the rest of the series.

The magic (god sent) that magically extinguishes the fire that would otherwise destroy his fortress, numerous occasions where uthred should have been easily spotted or easily killed, nothing makes sense, nothing follows at least a minimum amount of logic or character consistency.

I was seriously disappointed.

Excellent
Tr-u-mpbilly14 March 2022
I think we all knew what had to happen with Uhtred in the end. Perhaps, a bit heavy on Brita in the first couple episodes, but they pulled it around, nicely. I particularly liked the character development of Queen Aelswith of Wessex.

It seems like they were still developing the series enough to leave an opening for a return, maybe after the Seven Kings Must Die movie - I hope.

DESTINY, IS ALL

Warning: Spoilers
What a series finale, indeed!

First of all: Congratulations to all the cast members, writers, producers, directors. Everybody involved in the making of this proyect. It has been a wonderful ride for TLK fandom. An absolutley success in every way.

As for the final season itself, it was nicely pulled off for all the main characters, a little bit sad for the most but none of them felt out of place.

And what to say about Uthred, finally where he belongs, getting back his birth right. That was the perfect ending no doubt.

A fitting closure for an epic medieval saga. 10/10.

'To Uhtred! The True Lord of Bebbanburg!'
Fear1ess_Dragon10 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
To say Uhtred was a fictional character Alexander Dreymon brought this character to life in The Last Kingdom Tv Series. Following the story from the beginning to end, it feels like there was a great warrior lord who was honourable and good, fighting for what he believed in, for honour, his birth right, survival, love and freedom. A brilliantly well written story by Bernard Cornwell. Hats off to the tv series cast and crew for portraying the characters so well on screen. One of my favourite and most highly rated tv series. It is sad to watch the last of The Last Kingdom tv series but also looking forward to see more of The Last Kingdom movies and hoping to see more of The Last Kingdom spin offs. Destiny is all!

This is how you truly end a show and give it life to carry for years. Amazing cast, writers directors producers and crew. I respect each and everyone of you for ending this as it should have been. No cutting it to pieces, no shortcuts, but having it shine in every way. Congratulations!!!!!

Amazing fitting to Uhtred , the son of Uhtred
arpitbhardwaj-8011511 March 2022
This is a perfect end to the season ( or perhaps the series ) where a character is such a focal point . Story like throughout the season with Brida motives was slightly loose however a strong showing and turnaround with the plots and characters involved .

It's a pleasure to watch Uhtred and what he lost ( everything ) to gain the destiny.

Is it the best story plot ? Not sure - but surely a fitting character development and climax .

What all Series should aspire to be.
mustangride12 March 2022
This is what all Movies or TV Series should aspire to be like, This was great story with characters who were flawed and human they made mistakes some died some lived.

It did not have any Agenda Politics, No ticking the boxes for race, color, sex and certainly no Mary-sue. Take note Hollywood, without those things we got a great story that took us away from reality and invested us in all of them, because of who they were, not what we had shoved down our throat by you.

I do not want to spoil it, any of it, but I laughed and cried even in this final season, I was surprised by things that happened. It had redemption, it had finality and it wrapped up the story lines even if some of them tore our heart out while others made us smile with pleasure and joy.

I will say this, The final scene you had better have some tissue near by because your house I am sure is full of onions when it happens. This is the ending Game of Thrones could and should have done. It was the true definition of "Bitter Sweet"

Thank you Last Kingdom for the memories.

One of the best TV finales and shows ever made!
Cal5712 March 2022
From start to finish this show was just so consistently well written with amazing character development and execution from each character. It felt cohesive from beginning to end. Every episode was progressing towards something, didn't feel like their were any fillers. This final season was definitely the best also imo! In my opinion the best season of TV I have watched since the final season of Mr. Robot but every season was great! To all TV directors/writers/producers out there though this is a perfect portrayal of how you make a masterpiece show with the perfect ending! Not sure what it is about shows having 5 seasons and being amazing either. Breaking Bad had 5 seasons and is considered the greatest, but now The Last Kingdom has joined the conversation! I am sure going to miss this show though that's for sure!

P. S I forgot to mention also that the soundtrack was just outstanding too, particularly on this final season! But was amazing throughout the entire show!

Destiny is all!

Sloppy and rushed
schatel15 June 2022
This episode, a bit like this entire season was poorly executed, tried to resolve too many plot threads and had a little too much fan service for it's on good. Still overall a very enjoyable show.

5 stars for the season 5
rf_ariel19 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Last Kingdom is based in a 12 book romance by Bernard Cornwell. Season 1 to 4 took 2 books each, and I loved each season (watched all of them 4 times). Then, season 5 had to find a way to clench the last 4 books. I can understand the struggle to show everything in half the time, and I was expecting this season to be GOT's last seasons like. I think knowing this at least prevented the disappointment. It wasn't a good season. By far worse than the previous ones. Everything was rushed, so much fast travel, Brida. It had some moments of tension and of emotion, which was good, great acting by Alexander Dreymon as always, but overall, I'd not recommend and would not watch again.

Applause
evken-9657813 March 2022
Not a single thing was done that would've upset my expectations in season 5, Incredible show! I will continue to watch it over and over might just read the literature. It's disrespectful to TLK to be compared to game of thrones because it deserves its own spotlight 10/10 🔥
