The people who held Dora demand that the new bypass is stopped. Dora is worried about the people left behind. Unfortunately one young woman ends up dead.
Wexford and Burden still think that the cab company is somehow involved in all this. The King of the Wood acts too suspiciously. Even the undercover cop is behaving strangely.
There was some fruity acting going on here. Jack Klaff was pretty hammy but he would be matched here by Christopher Ravenscroft each time he lost his temper. This includes interrogating a suspect while he was having a bath.
It was enjoyable in a campy sort of way. It turns out that the kidnappers were landed rich folks who had a dim view of the little people. The bypass would spoil the view from their mansion. They still thought that they would get away with it even though they kidnapped an inspector's wife. Just the kind of people who would be right at home at Boris's Tory party.
As for the murderer, it was the unhinged undercover cop. Real life events have shown there was a better story there.
