Great Premise, Sloppy Execution.
krobinkr22 September 2021
Really enjoyed the overall concept and artists and feel as though this show has promise. However the judging was poor and they definitely seemed to play favorites. The criteria they based their decisions off of made little sense and seemed to be solely based on their personal preferences and styles they liked rather than an objective judgement of the execution of pieces or how well the challenges were met. Street fashion is diverse and all-encompassing and therefore they should have taken that into consideration when judging rather than only what they personally wanted to wear.

Even though there is a lot of room for improvement, overall, I did enjoy the show and I do hope there is a second season. If there is, it would be great if they try to incorporate the public reception/opinion into the judgement because that audience is really what makes street fashion, street fashion.

Great idea basic talent.
mducello31 August 2021
It's the same fashion ideas done over, and over again. It's nothing new just a grab from the past with new textures and paint. I was screaming at the TV for something diffrent. Save your time and patience and watch Project Runway. Hoped for the best but was disappointed. Not for me but it may be for you.

Almost There

The thing that bugged me the most about this show are the judges, such posers constantly acting like they're from the streets, constantly pretending. Besides that, their taste levels are very questionable. It's an American show so it is to be expected that they are a little bit behind on the fashion trends compared to Asia and Europe, and this clearly shows.

When it comes to the contestants in my opinion there are only 3 really creative designers there; Paije, Kai and Justin. Most of the 'designers' rely heavily on reworking existing trends into messy/oversized designs which is just not creative.

Fun & different!
niseynisey15 August 2021
Saw the first 3 episodes and am loving the competition so far. The contestants are ALL so unique and each represent the industry in different ways. No ones style looks like the others. I like the spin on the "judges" by making them "co-signers" instead. Feels more business-like hahaha. It's also nice that they have special celebrity guests each week that have to do with the culture. It's quite interesting that this show is on HBO Max though. I think it may have been a better fit on a different station, or maybe on Netflix, but I hope they are successful! A 3 episode drop makes me a bit nervous, but we'll see!

livaukaer21 December 2021
I binged the whole show and the judges were so rude! I understand that they have to give feedback but i felt uncomfortable watching how rude they were to the contesters I felt like they didnt respect the conteastens individual style at all.

Just Finished, Ready for Season 2

Fantastic reality television. Competitive and tense, but not too cut-throat. Diverse cast, strong leads. Very authentic: You care about the people, and their talent is real.

Could use more females competing. Also was a bit top-heavy in the first few episodes, found its pacing halfway through.

Bottom line: watch it.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Warning: Spoilers
I loved the concept of this show that's the only reason I watched it. I love street wear so I was super excited that this became a thing. Imagine my surprise when they let go the last two black women on the show. Let's be honest here, Paije outfits improved throughout the show but there wasn't a thing she made that sucked. That last outfit she made where the jacket turned into a waist jacket was sick af and they had the nerve to keep a basic designer who made a regular green pair of pants and a boring black jacket he pieced together? Who by his own admission sucked at styling...You're kidding me right? Then had the nerve to throw her a bone to work with her in the future. I would have turned them down. Im sorry but they must have feared her getting more work than them and blowing up big time if she won. I was really upset by that. Even Kai felt she was his biggest competitor. He was never threatened by mediocre Justin. Sadly I turned it off I didn't care who won at that point. Bogus!!

Not watching this again

Warning: Spoilers
What a gross attempt to colonize one of the few segments of fashion that hasn't been corporatized. I had higher hopes initially but, after watching them try to create and control the vernacular of the industry with contrived ideas like a cosign, I had a feeling this show was going to be a disappointment. Therefore, it wasn't a shock that two incredibly talented women of color were eliminated before the finale, clearly held to a higher standard than the men. Also, not a shock that a white kid from the Midwest with the mediocre talent of copying other peoples' designs but sewing them out of old blankets wins. I've seen his designs before, when someone else made them, and wasn't impressed with them then. Street wear is well on its way to being fast fashion with these sell-outs trying to helm the ship.

Ugly clothes overly subjective judging
carolinecennis13 September 2021
I fully understand this style isn't for everyone but everything looked so bizarre and sloppy. Grownups chanting words like "so fire". Weird Hobby Lobby aphorisms on velour and corduroy. What in the world did i just watch.

Slap to the face to POC
chrisblake-5856625 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved the concept of a streetwear design show. Production was inconsistent but promising. The outfits could have been featured more during judging.

But what killed this show is that they purposely changed the rules of judging to keep certain people on and in the end awarded the white boy from the midwest with his JCPenney's aesthetic over more talented but less "euro-american centric" black/poc designers. They literally chose a colonizer to win on a show about street wear which I've learned was most likely the white creative director of the brand sponsoring the show.

The most egregious example of the show changing the rules was when the black and latina female designers clearly outcompeted the white dude but to keep him on the show they had a surprise competition which consisted of a powerpoint presentation lookbook.

No joke, this is how they kept the white dude on. So disappointed how poc culture once again is white-washed.

What the f!

Warning: Spoilers
No, just no. This was a fine show to watch. But was sometimes wondering why talented designers with great designs did not win challenges.

And then came the final episode and two of the best, most amazing female designers (especially Paije) had to leave. HAD TO LEAVE??? What? Are u kidding me? Paije was the best with the best streetwear and most growth. I believe this was not a jury decision but a producers decision.

Red bandanas ARE street wear! Duh.
coldkyle124 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I stopped watching when they kicked Caroline off the show for making a red bandana jacket, saying it was offensive. Gang members like Crips and Bloods most definitely buy and rep "streetwear". Also, lots of people who just enjoy rap music would buy that jacket. It was by far the most sellable piece off street wear on the show- especially in L. A.. How dare they call it offensive.

Also, they personally kicked Murph off because they didn't like her large gold zippers when her outfit was one of the more wearable pieces. I think the so called "co-signers" have their heads straight up there you know whats. And I think a real gangster rapper should kick Wiz Khalifa's ass for agreeing with the host's that the red bandana was offensive. It is the epitome of street wear.
