Rescue on Ryloth
I didn't review last week's episode because I didn't have a lot to say about it. It felt like the first part of a two-part arc, so I kinda knew that we were going back to Ryloth this week, and it felt more realistic to review both episodes as a big episode. My overall thoughts, though, about last week's episode was that it was fine, but not one of the more interesting episodes. However, with the arc now finished, I know get that there was a lot more brewing, and this episode really felt like it continued to explore the themes I've loved so far.
It felt like a safe bet that we would be going to Ryloth at some point in this show as it has had a frequent role in the animated shows. We're going through all the places that we know and are meeting up with characters that we've met before, and I think the first season is largely going to be exactly that, and that they will move away from this structure if they get to come back. However, with this episode, we got a lot of setpieces that were planted to set up what comes down the road for Cham Syndulla and his role in creating the rebel alliance. However, the main focus of the episode was showing how Hera came into her own, and that was an interesting point of view to take. Her interactions with Omega felt very honest and I liked how they left it all very ambiguous. What the episode did very well that I didn't expect was go into the thoughts of certain clone troopers who don't see eye-to-eye with what the Empire is doing. I like the exploration of consciousness in this show and how they force the clones to deal with their actions during Order 66 and what it has resulted in. The character in this episode was great and I hope that we get to see more of him in the future. If not, I believe they have sparked something that will be apparent throughout the rest of the show and may have an impact on everyone.
"Rescue on Ryloth" is a good end to a two-parter that began a little slow but came to a great conclusion. Showing were certain characters come from is what this show does, and they do it again here to great results, while also planting seeds for what may have become the end of the clones.
