Really loved this episode!

Warning: Spoilers
I always have to keep in mind that this show is aimed at introducing Star Trek to young children. Keeping that in mind, I really loved the Kobayashi Maru test and bringing in the legacy characters. It was a great way to introduce some legacy characters without overwhelming new, young viewers with a bunch of backstory that they don't need to be burdened with at this point.

As an adult, it was such a treat to see characters from different shows on the same bridge!! So cool! I am also enjoying Gwyn's story and I can't wait to find out the story of the Protostar and Captain Chakotay!!!

Now that the Protostar has made it to the Gamma Quadrant, is it only a matter of time before we come across the Vorta or the Jem Hadar or even the Founders themselves? Will they even need the Wormhole to get to Deep Space Nine or can the Protostar get to the Alpha Quadrant on its own? And what is going on with Gwyn's father and his kidnapping of children to be his slaves? What is the Diviner's endgame?

Very excited to see where this series is headed!

Wow!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a breath of fresh air after the bleak, exhausting and emotional mess that was Discovery season 4 (so far).

This episode gave me that typical excitement that only Star Trek can give me. Despite this being meant for children it gave me more emotion that S3 and S4 of Disco combined. Especially that ' in loving memory' screen gave me goosebumps.

The episode had excitement, character development, humor, fan service, science, mystery and all the other stuff I'm looking for in ST. Great cameos by legacy characters, wasn't expecting this!

It maybe was a bit too much fan service like Lower Decks but I absolutely didn't mind. In my honest opinion Discovery would be better off if it did some more fanservice than just namedroppings and quick shots of familiar ships or alien races.

I'm very excited for this show and can't wait to see where it will take us!

A welcome change...

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly I was about to write off this series due to the idiotic way the kid captain is portrayed. But then, this episode with so many familiar characters. I spent half of it practically in tears and then the dedication at the end... this could be Prodigy's peak.

What a great and welcome surprise and a nice tribute episode - didn't expected that !

What a great and welcome surprise! This was a fantastic episode, a nice tribute episode didn't expect that from Prodigy! It was a funny and smart episode with many surprises I may say this and Lower Decks S2E09 "Wej Duj" gives me hope for modern Star Trek! Characters are interesting and likable unlike ST: Discovery & ST: Picard!

The Soul of Star Trek
seydiahmet9211 February 2022
I can proudly say that Prodigy and Lower Decks are the most perfect kinds of Star Trek universe. They still live with the soul of Gene Roddenberry's original Star Trek and the spirit of The Next Generation. To all crew and cast of this remarkable series, I congratulate you and respect you with all my heart. Star Trek is like a universe inside the dreams and imaginations, sometimes a pinpoint of a humanitarian struggle or a trace of a moral conflict can be found in a space adventure. When an episode ends, it leaves a lot of things to think and evaluate, this is the way how Star Trek becomes alive inside the audience's mind. And...it's a fortunate that emotions and question marks can be occur in our hearts and minds again. Thank you...

Finally!

Star Trek has been dead since the early 2000's. This episode is a return for REAL fans and proof that Star Trek CAN return. The people who made this were clearly true fans of Star Trek, at its prime, and it shows.

Excellent work.

Nods forward and backwards
HarbingerUK4 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a beautiful homage to previous Star Treks whilst keeping its eye firmly on the future.

The inclusion of the test to show the new captain how far he has to come was subtly done whilst allowing growth of the other characters.

Seeing classic characters from older series and being in character was a lovely touch, as was the tribute at the end of the episode. It allows for the introduction to its newer audience that there are other series to enjoy without bombarding them with history and character information.

I liked seeing the initial growth of the other characters interactions with each other that although they are flawed and with back stories they could be something more together. Classic Star Trek.

Even the villain showed some history.

And right at the end an enigma.

I'm hoping it will keep going in this direction.

I keep seeing reviewers saying it's a children's programme. Perhaps but I'm a 50 year old guy watching an animated series and enjoying it. I like series that don't treat the audience as imbeciles that require lengthy explanations of flashbacks of something you saw only five minutes ago.

This didn't pander.

Kudos.

A Senior Trekker writes...................
celineduchain6 January 2022
This episode is a veritable treat for Trekkers. It combines many beloved characters and themes from earlier Star Trek series with modern animation's ability to bring to life an infinite variety of new aliens and planets. But perhaps it was just a little bit too highly seasoned with memorabilia for a younger audience.

This is a CHILDREN'S series, after all. Much as we might wish it, children are not born Trekkers (or Trekkies) but have to come to it by their own path. If youngsters are offered clear storylines, a strong feeling of camaraderie, the wonder of exploration and a level of humour that they can understand, then we will take them with us into a world we can all enjoy together. If we seniors get too hung up on our own expectations and "in jokes" the grandchildren may well lose interest.

I know how disappointed many Star Trek viewers have been with the confused storylines and apparent lack of respect for its legacy that they have had served up on their screens recently but Prodigy cannot be all things to all people. Let this be my my plea to the producers and writers to allow this little gem to develop its own place in the Star Trek Universe without losing sight of its primary purpose.

Stay safe, stay kind.
