"Mattress" was quite a dramatic turn of a "Glee" episode
tavm11 October 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Well, after too many episodes, Will finally finds out about wife Terri's fake pregnancy and boy, is he mad! Terri really deserved what she got here. Elsewhere, the glee club seems to be glad not to be included in the yearbook photo as many of the Cheerios and jocks in them would deface the members not them and many of those other members wouldn't look forward to that. Only Rachel is upset about not getting some recognition though she has photos of herself in other clubs. When she gets a chance, however, she does get her clubmates a chance to be famous when a possible appearance in a commercial comes up...There's other things that happen here but I just want to comment on some of the song performances. That number of the glee club performing Van Halen's "Jump" is soooo cool to watch! Also, I liked seeing both songs named "Smile"-the Lilly Allen one performed by Rachel and the Charlie Chaplin one recorded by her and the rest-interpreted here. And while I'm finally glad that fake pregnancy arc is coming to a close, that was great drama performed by both Will and his wife concerning that. Okay, one more episode to go before the end of the initial thirteen...

No excuse for domestic abuse

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the episode as much as the others. Though I am surprised nobody seems to care about domestic violence depicted here: as Will is furious to learn the truth about Terri's fake pregnancy. Yes you could argue that his wife has been abusive herself. But it's nonetheless physical violence on the part of Will. And I would have preferred to see his rage more contained. Or at least an acknowledgement of his violence. Am I the only one concerned about that?

Lift up your shirt...

Glee is reaching it's climax, and each new step is an exhilarating one. While this episode was severely shorter than the rest, it packed just as much of an emotional punch as any of its predecessors. With "Mattress", expect less music, more Rachel and Finn drama, and several scenes of sheer pain from Will. Although the absence substantial music is saddening and unusual, the focus of this episode was conflict, and boy does it deliver. This is, by far, the most emotionally involving episode of the season. I would not use the word "gleeful" to describe these past few episodes as the show has taken on a more dark tone with a few crumbs of happiness; mainly because of the music. It's sad to see this amazing show take a 4-month break, but I'm sure next weeks episode will tide us gleeks over until then. Prepare to have your mind blown wide open!
