Big fan of the show from the start but I fully expected it to cancelled after Smurf died. No true and accepted leader.

Scenes from the past are not flashbacks because they are not Pope's memories or anyone else's (Smurf and Julia died previously), they are more of a prequel. I don't like all of the time spent on a prequel but it does show why Pope is the way he is. It was a form of child abuse. Pope internalized everything he observed and experienced and Smurf is to blame. It led to Julia becoming a drug addict and dying of an overdose. It does explain why Smurf's death made Pope so distraught. He loved her but knows she is the reason he is so messed up.

Looking ahead, Craig may quit the life of crime because of his young son and custody issues. Deran may also but I don't see the others going legitimate so jail or death is likely in season 6. We shall see.

I just finished binge watching all five seasons. I really like this show and I think this season was actually pretty great! Once Smurf was gone, the boys were all over the place but by the end of the season it really seems that they learn how to work well with each other. Every one of them bring something to the table so it's possible they can work together well even if there isn't a clear leader. J is the smart one, Pope is clearly the crazy one and Craig and Daren balance each other. I'm surprised that I don't miss Smurf as much as I thought I would. Actually, they feel more like a family now then they ever were before. I don't know if it's going to last but I like it. With Smurf there was always a hidden agenda. I still don't understand her behavior, which is why I like the flashbacks some viewers are complaining about. I think they are as interesting as the present storyline. Young Smurf is tough (and hot) but she is not as cruel as old Smurf was. There's a lot to Smurf's story that we don't know yet. What made her the monster she's become? What happened between her and Julia? Young Smurf seems to love her kids so what happened? Why did old Smurf was so awful towards them? She pushed julia away, she played with Pope's mind, she stole from them, she turned them against each other when ever it suited her, she killed Baz... She clearly didn't care for anyone but herself and her own interests! She didn't care about J when he was growing up because he was useless to her, same with Lena.

I'm sorry there's only one season left. I hope we get all the answers because there's a lot we don't know about the past and a lot can still happen in the future. I can't wait to see what's next!

Great episode except for the final two minutes. I actually like the flashbacks and learning about young (and super hot) Smurf. This episode had a great pace. But that ending, no bueno.

Animal Kingdom always delivers with the finales and this one was no different. The right amount of drama, high on action and yet another instance of wondering how they'll pull off the heist, but they always do.
