Warning: Spoilers
This excellent series exposes the huge connections between police and organised crime in 60s and 70s London, in episode 1 we hear a recording secretly taken of a police officer who was shaking him down for money by a criminal, where the bent copper speaks of a 'firm within a firm'. An investigation into organised crime ensues but this is covered up by a top cop who we later learn is corruptly running the underworld in Soho in episode 2! Materials are taken from sex shops in raids just for show by the cops and we hear ex-police speak on film about the way pornographers would go to the local nick to collect their stuff afterwards and a newspaper exposes how a top cop went on a holiday with a top pornographer that the criminal paid for. In episode 3 we learnt of rampant corruption involving officers taking 'drinks' (bribes) from bank robbers on a massive scale in the City of London police and the Met. The number 3 cop in the City of London police (Hugh Moore) was clearly something of a criminal mastermind but that couldn't be proved conclusively in court.

Puts things in perspective

The documentary is cut short by the fact that the Metropolitain police crushed their own internal investigation. The conclusion says it all really; its all about PR, and they would rather live with mass corruption, than create bad PR for the force. Today, the result of this historical truth often surfaces, when a police killing gets media attention. The officers involved are given immunity from prosecution, and the immigrants death gets recorded as "natural causes" on their death certificate. Its sad that our police have no moral compass.
