A home drama, which touches the heartstrings as few motion pictures are able to do. Two brothers are conducting a prosperous business together. One does his work as he should; the other does not, resulting in the wreck of the firm. One saves enough to start in business for himself in a modest way; the other becomes a tramp. Years after, the older brother has a sweetheart. The tramp arrives at her house, and while eating the food she has given him, hears his brother tell her he has been drafted to go to the war. Realizing that here is an opportunity to redeem himself, he gets hold of the papers, and is accepted in the brother's place, ultimately dying in battle, yielding up his life a sacrifice for his brother's sake. As he closes his eyes for the last time, he sees a vision of his mother, his brother and wife, all happy and at peace. Such a picture needs no criticism. It goes deeper than mere words. Each person will feel its subtle influence, and each person will interpret it according to his own experience. But the heart interest is there, and its influence is plainly manifest in any audience. Whether the dramatic unities are maintained or not, this picture will appeal strongly to a majority of those who see it. - The Moving Picture World, February 4, 1911
