Mance Saves The Day
bbevis-4795424 June 2021
A decent season finale. I was left unsatisfied with the ambiguous ending regarding Rose and her daughters relationship and frustrated with character decisions and trained personnel storm trooper aim. Something that seems to plague everyone in this series unless Rose needs to snipe someone off a moving snowmobile.

However the somewhat heart-warming plane scene and Mance saved it for me.

The end chase-survival sequence was outstanding. The camera work, choreography and Mance's desperation for survival was thrilling to watch. One of the highlights of the second season for me. Absolutely brilliant scene.

Overall the finale was decent and I do hope Netflix can renew the show for a third season.

@nomis94 The headshot issue
xxxNomadicxxx18 June 2021
Don't believe in all the things you see in movies. Hitting a moving target that's trying to kill you under pressure complicates things. The Walking Dead has everyone thinking a gun is simple as point and shoot and you never miss. Especially when most of these shooters are just regular citizens and lack any weapon training.

I'm glad Black Summer eliminated that factor which adds to the fear factor when dealing with the zombies and makes this show awesome.

Intense, visceral entertainment
eighthlettermedia20 June 2021
I am a sucker for oners and long takes. Abram Cox is a master of them. Anyone who complains about the lack of headshots has more than likely never fired a gun. Definitely hasn't fired under pressure of imminent death. Amazingly directed, great characters, conflicts left and right. On, and the zombies. I recommend it for any fan of the genre.

On the edge of my seat

Every episode this season is better than the whole first season. The next season could have more episodes. Of course, with all sci-fi, some suspension of disbelief must occur or there would not be a story. I am completely pleased with the direction of the show, and this episode has me longing for more. Of course, I will watch both seasons through again!

Great Finale For a Fantastic Season
nomis9417 June 2021
The only thing I still don't like is that these people don't even seem to try aiming for the head of a zombie.

But I have to admit: This season was not what I was expecting! What a banger of a season. Really great stuff!

@xxxNomadicxxx: Thanks for pointing that out! But I think most viewers will still feel frustrated by the rather realistic style of this show.

[9.2] Anna the tigress, Mance the cool-headed and Sun the lucky frightened bird
cjonesas25 June 2021
A superb finale that I loved every inch of it with Loco moco zombies chasing super frightened people with super shaky cams, all to the extreme pleasure of my eyes. I love that sort of gut-wrenching suspense, thrills crawling on my skin while eyes are glued to the screen with a semi ironic smile on my face.

Sun made it to the sun! So happy for her.

Some dear "experts" tend to think that shooting multiple LOCO targets running at you faster than "Olympic" 100m (second runners-up) winners, growling and spitting two meters ahead, is easy! Ha!, if you're lucky you will hit them in the groin, stomach and a little higher, especially if you're down, busy pissing in your pants, while watching with extreme horror a horde of Crazy spitting zombies, basically Hulk-jumping towards you. So, the headshot stuff is for Comte de Monte-Cristo, while sipping some vine and not in Black Summer world where every minute of it makes you lose 1kg of your sweet weight.

Abram Cox also made it to the sun! Preparing us, the fans, for a super Loco season 3 with hopefully 12 episodes. Netflix, rolling on, green-light it please!

Season Two Review
southdavid15 July 2021
I thought the first season of "Black Summer" had a promising start, but then descended into disappointing nonsense due to bad writing. I said in my review of it that I hoped the second season could be more consistent, and I do think they managed that.

Set an undetermined amount of time after the events of the first season, and relocated to a snowy woodland area, Rose (Jamie King), Anna (Zeo Martlett), Spears (Justin Chu Cary) and Sun (Christine Lee) are trying to survive when a plane flies overhead, dropping supplies, gives them hope of a more permanent rescue. However, they are far from the only group to have seen the plane, and the dropped resources, and exact location of the airstrip are violently fought over.

If the first season started great and descended to awful, the second season is much more consistently solid. They haven't messed around with the format that much, the chaptered headed sections remain, as does the jumping between characters who eventually interact - however, there's a little more focus this time on showing the events out of order, which can be used for good story effect, for example, showing our heroes with a room full of bodies, before jumping back to their introduction, so we know they are going to end up dead, but not why. The big change is that it's much more one story, as opposed to how episodic some of the first season was - we do still have the detours, such as the episode that focuses on Spears meeting Braithwaite, but much more than previously it's all servicing the one narrative.

One thing that's a definite step up is in some of the close quarters action sequences, particularly the frantic Bourne-style ones that use very close camera work to give an idea of the kinetic energy involved.

It does occasionally stretch the bounds of logic, like others I wondered why you'd ever leave the lodge for just the potential of the airstrip, but still. Nice to see a show that takes on board its faults and improves, the same level of improvement for season three would really make for a quality show, but for now it's just a reasonable one.

Warning: Spoilers
This Episode begins with Ray, he is caped in blood. Ray says that eveybody is going to die. Rose and Anna got chased down by Boone, he has turned into a zombie. Rose and Anna see Sun. Ray points a gun on Rose and Anna. Ray got beaten up heavily, Sun sees it. Sun enters the plane. The plane took off. Anna is running away for zombies. Mance got chased down by zombies. Rose is wounded, Ray is also heavily wounded. Solid Final Episode of Black Summer, this was not so good. Very dissapointing to see this ending, i expected more from this Series. This genre is very difficult to make, but this was not entertaining enough.

Adrenaline is a hell of a drug
pamelaandpaolo17 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Big fan of this entire show. The vignette chapter storytelling style took a while to get used to, but now with familiarity of all the characters it's nice to see them come together at the air strip. But what I really want to give a shout-out to is my man, Mance!! What a scene, I was holding my breath the entire time. It feels like folks haven't quite caught on that it has to be headshots, but you see Mance picking it up along the way. I was impressed by how much sprinting and athleticism he displayed considering they've all been starving in the winter, but adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

Really dumb character decisions throughout season 2.
Serenity300014 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The characters worth rooting for ends up dead. Subpar writing this season. Spears was a loved character in season 1, but season 2 turned this hero into a killer out of the blue. He helped so many in season 1 and then all of a sudden we are suppose to believe he was the complete opposite in S2. Let me say the mother and daughter I was wishing both would die a horrible death all of S2. The daughter Anna, more than the mother. Both are hard and selfish female characters who could a rat's a about humanity. The dumbest move ever was the Lodge scenes. A place with stocks oh food and these idiots LEAVE. Made no sense. They could have lived there awhile heal their wombs and take a much need breath for awhile. Then they could have ventured out little by little but also returning to the Lodge to see if the plane was true. But back to Spears, he could have been saved with medical attention. I'm sure the Lodge had First aid treatment somewhere and Anna or her evil mother could have helped the guy who saved them instead of blowing his brains out with this nonsense about he was going to die.

The Zombies aren't suppose to be all powerful. People running like fools instead of chopping at their heads or using the GUN in their hands to blow their brains out became redundant after the first 2 episodes. Sun remained the only character from S1 left rooting for...I don't know if I will watch S3 if there is one. Black Summer needs better writers.

At first left a pretty bad review, rewatched and changed it! All in all good show! Hopefully we will get a third season. There is one of the best scenes of the whole series in this episode.

Final Episode end scene
Bringthethunder2 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not sure if this was mentioned already but the final scene on the plane with the lady and the pilot is in the girls imagination/sub conscious. When the pilot tells her to rest and a black shadow eventually crosses her face that's her slipping away into death.

Great With Some Boring Moments
Mehki_Girl15 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Didn't care about any of the characters was actually hoping for the mom and the daughter to get theirs.

The only characters worth caring about was Sun and the Hispanic guy in the first couple of episodes of season 1.

One for being a nice guy and two for being smart.

Great action, but some bad and poor choices. But the close-up action really kept my attention, while there were episodes that frankly bored me and I had to go back to force myself to look cuz I kept looking at my phone and that's not a good thing for an action film.

I'll be there for season 3 , fast zombies really terrify me.

A disappointing end to a show that had potential
bjohnsonc-9935021 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think I'm in the minority but I thought season 2 was a huge disappointment and was nowhere near the 11 out of 10 season 1 was. Season 2 was a mess right from the beginning. Cardboard characters we know nothing about and never see any backstory on them. By the end I didn't care if anyone survived. The main two characters were completely unlikable. Christine Lee's character was the most likeable but a complete waste. Justin Chu was completely unrecognizable and Jaimie king and and Zoe Marlett were painful to watch. Throughout the season my wife and I kept wonder are people that incapable of learning anything and remaining stupid? I could go on but I think you get the idea.

Masterpiece of stupidity
Quentin-Buratino1 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Plane lands just to take off. Nobody frisks another when capturing. Sending one of your guys out to the zombies not "to be disturbed". Hitting a man with fists on a bullet proof vest. One guy whiout any weapons takes out about 8 zombies when before one zombie overpowered 5 heavily weaponed men. Magicaly apearing pistols on the groung. And so on.

Who wrote this, a 14 year old girl?
chadurban26 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2, liked the action but the writing is horrendous. There isn't a logical decision that any character makes. Why would you leave a fully stocked hotel for a pipedream on a plane you know nothing about? Most characters are killed off so fast, there is no time for character development, so we don't even care. Oh and by the way, white man bad. I don't know, I guess I've got a few years before I have to worry about if I want to watch season 3 or not.

Zoomer shooter
segoitch20 June 2021
So you made from survival horror an action trash with splitted story instead consequentially one? Fear factor when aiming, guys if you miss = you die, that's only fear factor.
