In the previous episode, Richard Antrem, the editor of GQ challenged George to a boxing match as a way to resolve their differences. George had written an essay in which he called Antrem all kinds of names, something the GQ editor didn't think was fair. The match also involved Jonathan, who was challenged by the critic Louis Green, a man that always found bad things to say about Jonathan's novels. Ray gets involved as well, without a clue as why he has to face someone who didn't do anything to him.
Jonathan gets a strange call from someone who tells him to take a dive as he fights Green because he has something that will be revealed and it will be embarrassing to George. Using his detective skills, Jonathan locates this guy, Dale Woodley, and overpowers him. The secret had to do with an empty Viagra prescription bottle that allegedly belongs to George.
As the men prepare for their upcoming match, Jonathan receives a phone call from Stella, a woman who wants to meet him. Stella is everything that Susannah was not. She seems to genuinely care for Jason. A second date is even more fulfilling because Stella has bought a new vaporizer that works wonder when they sit to smoke some pot together. Jonathan and Stella have a lot in common, or so it appears.
George is surprised one evening by the arrival of Priscilla, his former wife. She has come to plead with him into letting Richard win. Evidently, he has a bad heart and is not a well man, in spite of looking as though he was in perfect health. One thing lead to another and they end up reenacting what they had once in the way of sex.
The night of the fight begins badly. None of the challengers appear to have it in them to go on with the fight. Ray is beaten by the guy that confesses he liked his drawings. Jonathan does better, he knocks Louis Green easily. George and Richard go for a while and seem to be evenly matched, but once George takes a look at Priscilla, he understands that winning isn't everything.
A good finale for this enjoyable series. Directed by Paul Feig, and written by its creator, Jonathan Ames and Martin Gero. This chapter was not as effective as some of the seven preceding episodes, although it was fun to watch these men on an arena where their boxing abilities were not exactly what they excelled in. Besides the three principals, Oliver Platt, John Hodgman, Laila Robbins, Jenny Slate and Sal Vitale, make the best of the material given to them to perform. We can only hope for a new season of this enjoyable series and hopefully Jason Schwartzmann, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson will be reunited again to give life to Jonathan Ames adventures. Mr. Ames, the genius behind the series could feel proud of his creation, one of the most personable series in recent memory.
