Fun Action, bad everything else Warning: Spoilers
I understand that writing a book about magic is one thing, but trying to "realistically" bringing that to the screen is a nightmare. So I get the difficulty, but man, if they forget some of the cheesy teenage drama stuff, this show could've been incredible. So obviously the cheesy drama is made for females between 16-35. However whoever choreographs the actual action is better their job. The action itself was really cool. Seeing The wraith girl on full action mode, seeing Jasper in full metal bending mode was all pretty cool.

However, man the logistics of the "who goes where", and the "how they get there" are crazy. They will have 5 minutes of an already long show dedicated to the grand send off of a ship, only to have it blown out of the sky. Meanwhile the crows can just teleport into the castle?

Meet You In The Meadow - A Pivotal Confrontation Amidst Darkness
Vaynrat22 November 2023
"Meet You In The Meadow," the pivotal Episode 7 of "Shadow and Bone" Season 2, emerges as a spellbinding chapter in the series, filled with familial revelations, sacrifices, and the ominous presence of the Fold.

The narrative kicks off with the Darkling's attempts to dissuade Mal from sacrificing himself as the third amplifier, unveiling an intricate web of family ties that intensifies the emotional stakes.

As the Darkling's forces close in on Alina, Mal, and Nikolai, a war council is convened, leading to a strategic split of forces. The tension heightens with the Darkling's relentless assault on Nikolai's flying ship, culminating in a retreat to a fort swallowed by the Fold. The subsequent ambush, masterfully executed by Nikolai's forces and aided by Kaz, Jesper, and Wylan, delivers both triumphs and heart-wrenching losses.

Simultaneously, Alina, Mal, Inej, Nina, and Zoya embark on a perilous journey to the heart of the Fold, setting the stage for a climactic confrontation. The title, "Meet You In The Meadow," carries a poetic weight, hinting at pivotal moments amid the darkness.

This episode artfully intertwines themes of family, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of justice, creating an emotionally charged and action-packed installment. As darkness continues to unfold, "Meet You In The Meadow" propels the series towards a gripping climax.

Again?

Seriously! You can have the power to stop EVERYTHING that's going wrong. But BOYs... and feelings slow this whole thing down. I wish for once I could get a story where the powerful woman is simply like "love you! Appreciate the sacrifice. It's for the greater good" end of story. Epic battle scene with super powers ensues. That's a wrap.

AND she was given an alternative way of amplification and still they got "distracted".... It's poor writing. Poor story development just absolute none sense. In this final battle, I'm sorry... does the king's side have NO Grecia? (That is probably spelled wrong but that's the least of the issues). That seems like a huge... oversight, before heading into ANY battle. This story just doesn't make any sense.

This was unbearable
thelasthans22 March 2023
Like I wrote for an earlier episode, I think the story is pretty decent and the actors are doing a good job at bringing their characters to life...but they can only do so much and this episode was such a mess.

Why is everyone just running around like headless chickens? For supposingly powerful armies they have absolutely no strategy, no tactics and are also absolutely incompetent. It is important for viewers to understand the scale and the stakes. And at times this felt like there were 10 people fighting 10 people.

People don't use their powers to up the stakes. Others make suicidal decisions just so they can die in dramatic ways. Who came up with fog-traps that do absolutely nothing else? Like seriously, this is the dumbest thing i have seen.

The fighting chorography was just sad. There was no tension, no excitement since people just flailed around until they could strike a cool pose and speak a witty line into the nothingness of an empty battlefield. It doesn't have to be realistic, since it is fantasy. But please for the love of god make it at least look cool and not just outright unpractical!

And all the while, there is a pretty decent story underneath. But is butchered by whoever directs or edits this mess.

I am also still mad about the tiny axes!

the directing ruined the episode for me
maile-0172919 March 2023
The directing in this episode was out of place compared to the work the other directors had done in the previous episodes and ruined the episode for me. I am hoping the episode directed by the same director after this does not follow the same pattern. Honestly it took away from the whole episode for me. I know she has directed some great episodes in the past for other television shows but this just didn't do it for me.

I really am worried about the finale after watching this episode. I hope it goes better than this one.

Story telling wise, the pacing of the show was off. I believe a heavy focus on the crows is the only way to carry the story forward as the pacing is better with them and the story is much more compelling.

Great action but completely dumbed down
geiserraphael-7110521 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode completely broke my immersion. There is some top notch, non stop action going on here, but...

  • everyone is constantly teleporting to where the action is

  • the bad guy was always omniscient. But now some good guys are too. Makes you wonder why some guys don't seem to have the slightest clue what's going on, since everybody else seems to constantly know who will be where, what they are about to do and how to counter it.

  • a lot of deus ex machina going on

  • needless self sacrifice by secondary characters

  • even for someone with no tactical training it is obvious that it would make more sense to activate your "god mode" before you turn a corner - not after some of your guys have been shot

  • if you can fire out if your impenetrable shield. Why do you do it just once?

  • why does the second lost powerful grisha, Alina not use her powers? Not even when she gets picked up by a volcra? After all it was the exact same situation that triggered her powers for the very first time!!

  • aren't grisha robes supposed to be bulletproof? Most of the time they are and then they are not and then they are again. Make up your mind!!!

  • the shadow monsters can only be harmed by a certain blade. And Alina's powers? Never mind, she refuses to use them, so... "Use phosphorus bullets! ... They seem to be working!" That last one was the dumbest of them all. At least we got to see these medieval soldiers use Star Wars blasters for a bit, so... Yay?

nice costumes
glstrom-1426017 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
But the rest is a total mess, and so very tired of the shot of them holding hands like it is the key to everything and has been from the beginning, could shorten it an episode by just removing most of those. Dark guy should have killed her when he could, yet it is hard to care about any of them as their motivations are so muddled. Light girl the weakest act of all as she could obliterate the lot and not have grisha senselessly killed (but the crying scenes and endless thoughtful hugging is sooooo important to some members of audience) By the way is there any reason on earth these super heroes are pulling ON LOCKED DOORS??? Hello, you have powers people, but no plan? Oh we will just go in this cool flying machine, never user any of the cool weapons on board then get annihilated by some baddies hopped up on grandmas bones (which we never see, hello, major character , show us what happened) So no we are left with a jokester as a king, Mal the future baddie, sassy woman looking to spring her studly guy from hellsgate prison, scotsman with a grudge, sneering guy who loves indian woman but can't get up nerve and other people to keep lg crowd entertained. Pretty thin gruel for a new season so lets just say we're done.

One of the worse episodes
ultimateninja-2278513 September 2023
This one annoyed me the most so far. There were just so many stupid discissions made by the good guys, I'm surprised they lasted so long.

The good guys had several opportunities where they could have killed the bad Grishas while they were distracted, (with their backs turned, mourning their fallen comrade, etc.), but instead the good guys sit around doing nothing.

They waste ammo shooting at the bad guys while the bad guys are advancing using wind, instead of waiting for them to stop and shooting then. (None of them ever heard of strategy before? Also, always go for the head shot.).

And of course Alina wont kill Mal, which means if Alexander does, it's all over.

A very clumsy battle scenes
justlovemagayzin25 April 2024
The script was very good. The acting was very professional. The shooting and the scenes were good until episode 7 of season 2.

But hey guys, what kind of a collision scene is this... even middle school students who play a little bit of computer games right now would have edited it much better.

There are so many simple cheap defenses against the attacks of these grishas around the castle.

A very pointless and tactless encounter. A very clumsy battle.

It fails to meet the rising tension and expectations. It's as if this episode of the series was written in a very rushed script.

With all due respect, the castle defense scenes were not good.
