Was it just me or did the editor go home?
mlee516 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I still can't make my mind up as to whether I'd watch a second series but it feels like lots of different people are involved and not talking to each other. The croc falls off the cliff and goes back into the water and overturns the boat and the next shot the croc is back on land about to attack Billie. Then we get told at the start of the series these aren't dead zombies, yet they don't drown when kept under water. But the thing in the tank needs anoxygen mask to breathe. Please could they at least hire people to remember the storylines.

False-Feast For Franchise-Fans - S01 Review
JoshuaMercott24 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An interesting new twist on an already twisted - in a brilliant way - franchise, "Resident Evil" season one can't be called a joyride for fans. Though they grazed the topic of familiar haunts like Racoon City, the story felt rushed and hollow without any real RE franchise substance.

Directors Bronwen Hughes, Rob Seidenglanz, Rachel Goldberg, and Batan Silva regardless deserve praise for their work on the eight nostalgic and scary episodes in season 1. Writers Andrew Dabb, Mary Leah Sutton, Shane Frank, Garett Pereda, Kerry Williamson, Lindsey Villarreal, Jeff Howard, and Tara Knight did 'okay' work scripting the series.

Gregory Reveret's musical scoring and Carmen Cabana's cinematography were both excellent. Memorable soundtracks, remarkable production design, and detail-driven set decoration made the series worth watching. Outstanding editing, art direction, sound effects, and stunts further added to the show's marvels. Danielle Knox did good work on costume design. The VFX and CGI teams were magnificent.

Jade Wesker, played by Ella Balinska, was good. However, I felt she went looking for trouble without any real reason to do so, and oftimes was a tad too irresponsible and reckless for credibility's sake. Billie Wesker, played by Adeline Rudolph, was good - she had barely enough room to flex her acting-muscles, though.

Their younger versions, played by Tamara Smart and Siena Agudong respectively, were notable. However, I felt their characters were a little contrived. The young girls often found themselves behaving in ways that were not entirely believable. They chose easily avoidable avenues, probably to further the plot, and were (like their older versions) too reckless.

It was difficult to feel for and connect with the two character-leads owing to the reasons mentioned above. This was one of those instances where performances bested characterization, an instance that often does little to help the bigger picture. In this regard, I found disappointing parallels in the character of Bea (Jade's daughter), played by Ella Zieglmeier.

Evelyn Marcus, played by Paola Nuñez, was great. Albert Wesker, played by Lance Reddick, was outstanding. Simon, played by Connor Gosatti, was good. Richard Baxter, played by Turlough Convery, was noteworthy. Melinda, played by Corien Pelt, was great. Arjun Batra, played by Ahad Raza Mir, was memorable.

All other crew and cast made plenty of elements work on behalf of "Resident Evil" streaming now on Netflix.

The entire show was set in the future, 2036 to be precise. By this time, it was fourteen years since the T-virus apocalypse ended the world. They covered flashbacks that took place in 2022 - amusing.

All the creatures paid homage to the original game franchise, and that in itself earned the show some points in its favour. Cerberus Dobermans, infected mega-caterpillars, giant spiders, a humongous zombie crocodile, sundry transformed undead called Zeroes - Mother Zero included - and finally the unforgettable Licker.

The Zeroes in the show were not zombies per se, so it's best not to go comparing them to those in "The Walking Dead". Their appearance and body language were good enough not to ruin the experience.

Lisa Trevor's cameo added good detail to season one of "Resident Evil". The finale saw the coming of the dreaded Tyrant, which was outstanding. However, the Tyrant having no real security or backup framework around his pod, and the way he randomly awoke (in the pod) all felt contrived to me. In the end, though, they barely even used him, and this is the Tyrant we're talking about, one of the most powerful undead monsters in the RE franchise.

The undead crocodile was one of the best monsters in the show, but they barely used that one too. When they did, it felt overdone. Using a powerful emergency-only undead-croc to take out Billie Wesker when Jade had ample opportunity to shiv or shoot her instead, and unleashing it only after most of the zombie-wave beach assault was over? I didn't buy it. The show could have scored huge points with this sequence, but alas. They did capture some great CGI footage of the croc in the finale, though The show was somewhat evocative of the games that preceded it. A handful of plot-arcs and characters were given due attention. The Umbrella Corporation sowed the seeds of havoc, i.e., the T-Virus, which ended civilization as we know it. I liked how they portrayed this corrupt fictional organization.

What made this debut season notable was how well it captured covid-19 and Climate Emergency metaphors in some of its sequences. Post-apocalyptic tropes have always been at the heart of such productions, and "Resident Evil" à la Netflix did not shy from reflecting the prevailing mood.

Personally, I keep wishing someone would bring Milla Jovovich into all these latest "Resident Evil" projects, but that's just me.

This show was 'see it once' good. It focused a little too much on emotional 'family drama' and too less on RE-style horror. S01 may impress some fans, but not all. I did not quite take to the first season, to be honest. This is a revered franchise among horror fans, and the genre itself, and Netflix disappointed big-time.

Any build-up to season 2 now stands on shaky ground. However, there is still hope that "Resident Evil" season 2 will be leagues better and do this franchise justice. Let's hope...

Lyle the Crocodile? Seriously? Croczilla isn't trademarked.
ilpo-surokivi22 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Like seriously, Croczilla. Croczilla ex machina. Also, what was the plan anyway? They do realise that a croc of that size could easily catch up to the ship, right? Also, are the Umbrella Troopers on Joy or something. "Let's follow this woman who killed our comrades in cold blood just a moment ago. Nah, she keeps me fed and safe I'll just tell the higher ups back at Umbrella HQ." Clearly she kept bot-Evelyn for some reason like she told us. I guess the evil geniuses who somehow avoided being held accountable for anything by RC survivors can get away with anything. I can find out basically most basic information about Apple online. Mostly what they mainly do. Zombies have f up brains. Umbrella makes drugs that affect the mind. Umbrella was in Raccoon City. I bet Umbrella would even have some biomed, research etc. Things on their Wikipedia page are or even their own website. It seriously does not take a genius to figure out what caused the Raccoon city incident. In the games Umbrella sent people into the city. Resident Evil 3, in the subway.

Wish the croc would've eaten them all

Warning: Spoilers
At least I'd get some satisfaction after wasting precious time watching this utter nonsense of a series.

How many plot twists do we need in one episode like seriously, a mom killing her boy sure why not.

Netflix should prescribe joy for having to watch this.
Sleepin_Dragon16 July 2022
Jade has to turn on someone close, and has to save a loved on. Painful truths are revealed.

Did I not enjoy this because it's a bad episode, or just because the series has been so utterly appalling from the off.

I'll try and find some plus points first, I'll give credit for the visuals on the giant crocodile, it looked good, and I was keen to learn what was being dragged on the back of the boat.

Now back to reality, the storylines, past and present, were a mess, it tried so hard, but as it tried to run it fell over its feet. None of it gelled, the stories past and future felt clunky, end again we ended up back in soap land, the music and acting didn't do it for me, but the empty emotions of the characters were possibly the worst aspect.

I hope this ends here, it's such a well loved franchise, it did not need this.

There should be a prize for making it to the end.

2/10.

I hate that I watched the whole thing
J-odishaw21 July 2022
The writers clearly planned on setting up for a season two but we dont get an explanation for any of the motivations behind any of the stupid things the characters do. Lance Reddick is the only enjoyable thing about the whole show.

The writing is so bad
theredbaron200715 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so Billie eilish gets on the chopper alone. Blows up the alligator. Girl runs over the hill. Suddenly they've landed and now she has 3 more troopers.

Like what is time?

Plus that was obvious, they needed a plot device for season 2. So it's going to be all about that.

I've never watched something that's made me stop watching it so many times because it's just weird and bad.

What is Andrew dabbs obsession with Billie eilish? That ending song was not it.

Great concept, bad writing, and bad execution. Like the zombie horde I think they just told them to run with their hands down and skimped on the make up. Plus how did so many zombies get on the island? That was like 1000 plus.

Idk and with the high school angle this is a show aimed at kids, even though it's mature. So what was with all the weird sex references? There were so many. They literally made a golden shower idk joke? That was so bad you could see it in the actresses. Then the next line is about how beautiful having children is. Like what?

I'm genuinely curious how they're going to fill like 5 more years of flashbacks because they've locked themselves into that story at least until she's 18, and the kids I'm pretty sure are supposed to be 14.

BOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
chrischanwasframed17 July 2022
I can't believe I watched all 8 episodes. I think I need a hug. I tried to be fair but this show really really sucks. Just to get it out of the way the camera work, sound track, and acting are all fine, I have no problem with that stuff, but the writing is god awful. I don't like any of the characters, except maybe two because I think they are kind of funny, but the main girl Jade is THE worst character, I even prefer her sister who is supposed to be the evil one, and that is not so much a compliment to Billie as much as it is reenforcing just how bad this Jade is. This is not Resident Evil in any way. It is a slap in the face to true fans of the original games. They should have just made this its own new thing, call it Woke Zombies and it would at least make sense. I wish I had one of those memory wipe things from men in black. Netflix is really taking the biscuit with this s***! BAD!!! Very very Bad... Not Good... BAD!!!

Nothing in common with Resident Evil
robin-m-brack20 July 2022
So, now I've watched the entire season one, and I still can't figure out the target group for the series.

It can't be the fans of RE, since the series has absolutely nothing to do with the games. It's like they have taken some names and elements and created a whole new world.

It can't be to invite people to the RE world, for the same reason as stated before. To be honest, it's not even a good series by itself.

The story is predictable, the plot twists are just crazy and awful, the zombies are... I don't even know where to start. Even the dialogue is bad. Just because you can use profanity doesn't men you should, in almost every sentence... In many ways it reminds me of the Wheel of time-series, in a bad way.

To summon: It's an 18+ series, made for teens, that has absolutely nothing to do with Resident Evil.

Not a master piece but still mindless fun
eddwhite23 August 2022
I can't believe the amount of 1 star reviews on here. I'll admit that it wasn't the greatest TV show created but I found this totally fun and watched this all the way through in a few days. I love Resi but aren't such a fan boy that I get annoyed at the way they have taken the story. It was a bit silly in places but who cares. It had good effects and was totally entertaining, especially good old Mega Croc at the end.

I really enjoyed it and would totally watch a second series.

Taking back my stars
joinar3 August 2022
After watching the first 5 episodes, I actually really started to like the series. Sadly, it went really downhill to the point where the whole time spent on watching this series ended up feeling wasted. Especially, episodes 7 and 8 were complete garbage. I'm now deleting my original positive review and taking back all the stars.

Crikey that's a croc
Calicodreamin17 July 2022
With such a bogus show I'm not too surprised they decided to throw the in kitchen sink in the form of a giant croc. Storyline was a mess, acting bland, though a decent production value.

Such potential.
karefnpc26 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great zombies, decent storyline.

However.... They picked the wrong main character. Jade is selfish, stubborn, and just straight up unlikable. Always messing up, always getting people killed. Billie should have been the main, and Jade as the villain.

Billie should be the one more upset about the world, not Jade.
