Dance short film, black and white, heavy editing
paulpenet15 November 2009
I have seen the film during the Betting on Shorts Film Festival - a festival that basically is what its slogan says it isn't: an Eurovision of short films (Eurovision is a pop music European festival where the winner is chosen by the jurors from each country)! The audience from Bucharest, where I have seen it, was not in the least interested in this film (partly because the films it competed against were the type of joke-on-camera, low-tech, basic performances that make 90% of the video performances during these festivals, and they just wanted to have another easy laugh, maybe with a taste of political comment, transgression etc). Nevertheless, Memotekid won the competition, for good reason I think. Unlike its competitors, it is a very honest, well-thought, artistic attempt to bring something original, to provoke a certain genuine feeling.

A very interesting experiment with film and dance. Two female dancers perform in the minimalistic set of Feroe Islands, their dark figures against the whiteness of snow and sky. A bleak and intriguing feeling, enhanced by the soundtrack and the editing.

Definitely not for story lovers, but a visual experience for people interested in dance and, well... visual experience!
