Refreshing take on classic comedic artform
Ghosthunter12342417 April 2011
It's a great show and a refreshing mix of old sketch and modern alternative comedy.

It's comedy from a young Scottish perspective and ins't wrapped up in tradition so much that its smothering. Considering that the vast majority of British sketch comedy to have any success has been on BBC, and therefore quite modest, barring a few exceptions, it's nice to see that the BBC regional channels are getting a chance to express a little of their own culture on such an established platform as the Beeb.

Clearly it isn't for everyone, but that's the beauty of having an opinion of your own.

Maybe you'll enjoy it, maybe you'll be left scratching your head.

Perhaps some people need their humour spelled out for them...

Very funny show

I'm from Cumbria. so I get the accents. Other people might not. This show was so funny. I really liked it. Great characters. Davey McGrogan. Jolly Boy John. You have to watch this.

A funny sketch show centered around a fictional Scottish town..

I took some time to understand the accent and did not expect to like this show. Was totally underwhelmed with the first episode but the show did get progressively funnier. It isn't unique but has a great perspective and I do believe that some audiences will either love it or absolutely hate it.

Nevertheless I look forward to seeing the next few seasons.

Hilarious, refreshing, surprising, original, and funny.

This is a great show. I grew up in Scotland (10 years) and didn't struggle with the accents and dialects. Much. But some might.

This is a brilliant sketch show unbridled by commercial constraints, yet with a big enough budget for good sets and make up. The writing is fresh, brave, and hilarious. The acting is top notch.

...and Kirsty Strain is the kind of beauty I'd crawl over broken glass for, just to see her reflection in a window. A legendary screen beauty who I hope, and not solely because of her looks as she's a great talent, goes on to achieve great fame . A genuine stunner.

In fact, I hope these people go on to bigger and better things, they deserve it.

Give it a watch. It's actually good.

love it

omg i love burnistoun it is the best programme ever, it is so funny, I wonder sometimes where they actually come up with this patter but its brilliant, the reason for my post is basically hoping that maybe one of the cast members will read this, I especially love the sketch in the elevator, the it's raining sketch and also the sketch where Kelly mcglade is being interviewed by the burnistoun herald, I was hoping that you would read this as I would love to see a sketch where Kelly McGlade auditions for xfactor (solo or in the band) and also more sketches of snide looks, keep up the fantastic work Thanks P.S I love burnistoun x

Modern Vaudeville Style
rapunzel-446159 February 2019
Definitely speaks to an older comedic appreciation, but with modern content. Don't get me wrong, I love SNL, but often their sketches are too long. These sketches are shorter, faster, and have hilarious punch lines. This show is a specific style taste and not for everyone, but I loved it! Truly funny one liners and lots of physical comedy are my style. *just a side note: If you have a hard time with non American accents, it may take a little while to adjust to this.

Great Show.

Burnistoun is a great blend of wacky characters, wonderfully silly sketches and unique storytelling. It's a little bit crude in places and there's a lot of those moments where you wonder if there really are people like the characters. Whether it's Alex Ciderson's adverts of outrageous products or something like a serial killer whose disgruntled at his portrayal in the press, it's definitely a rather amusing watch.

10/10. Anybody says otherwise, they're wrong.

Burnistoun has made me laugh harder than I could possibly imagine over its 3 season run with 3 one-off specials and a pilot episode, and the attention this show gets is well deserved. They portray Glaswegians, including me, as who they really are: loud and funny. Robert Florence and Iain Connell captured us perfectly, and their writing is genius.

All I do have to say is: if you're an old-yin, and hate stupid, nonsensical humour, maybe you should just skip this one and go back to watching Law and Order, or CSI: Miami in the nursing home. They're sketches, and they're not meant to be taken seriously.

Utter crap!
Rabical-9127 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Iain Connell and Robert Florence showed great promise as scriptwriters at the start of their careers when they provided material for 'Chewin' The Fat'. In 2007, they decided to try their hands at sitcom and wrote a sitcom about dodgy market traders entitled 'Legit' which was then followed up a year later with a sitcom about property maintenance workers entitled 'Empty'. In 2009. they decided to return to the sketch show format and created 'Burnistoun', only this time, as well as writing it, they acted in it as well. Unfortunately, the net result just did not cut it with me. Along with 'Limmy's Show' and 'Gary - Tank Commander', it is easily one of the worst television shows in recent years.

There is no logic to the sketches at all, and the characters ( especially those bloody annoying ice cream van proprietors ) all look like rejects from 'Monty Python's Flying Circus'. The obvious canned laughter does not help either. I did laugh though at the sketch in which a man attempts to buy rolls from a corner shop where the assistant has the repetitive job of telling him they have run out of rolls. When a young attractive woman comes in to ask for some rolls, his response is: ''Aye, we've hundreds of them. I'll take you over to them!''.

Three series were made, the final episode was a Christmas special which ended in 2016. It is a mystery to me how it stretched as far as one series, let alone three!

Pretty awful
docterryc2 September 2012
If you enjoy a string of one-liners, strung together with no theme or consistency then you might enjoy this.

I was brought up in England, spent a few months each year in Scotland and continue to visit Scotland each year, yet I found most of the dialogue impossible to understand.

I enjoy British humour, yet most of what I watched made little sense--and was not funny. Clearly this sitcom is going to divide viewers into either the LOVE IT camp or the HATE IT camp. Try it--you'll know in five minutes if it tickles your funny bone. It didn't tickle mine--indeed it made it numb!
