Nate's explosion
mwollaeger-1779730 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I haven't seen anyone note that Nate was clearly projecting his rage against his own father onto Ted. Ted never abandoned Nate, but Nate's father never celebrated Nate's success. And Ted didn't have the picture up in his office only because it was on his bedside table at home. Presented with an opportunity to take the helm, Nate could only separate from Ted through emotional violence. A tender parting - precisely the kind Keely and Rebecca enjoyed - was impossible for Nate because he could only man up, not, as the Diamond Dogs would recommend, woman up.

Brilliant episode title
diogoyokoyama8 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The episode is called "inverting the pyramid of success"

in football a 2-3-5 formation is called a pyramid formation, which is kind of a staple in English football, and it's a more defensive one compared to the previously more used 1-2-7, which is all offense.

5 days, 3 weeks, 2 months

5-3-2 is literally the pyramid formation inverted

When Ted first came in he was not well received at all. Rebecca, the team, Trent Crimm, they were all out to get him, but he helped everyone defend themselves and he did what no one thought he could do: he won them over. And in this episode we see all those people who at first attacked him, have his back, come to HIS defense. They literally INVERTED THE PYRAMID.

How bloody brilliant is like wtf I honestly could not be more excited for the future of this show and how many more phenomenal episodes like this one we're gonna get.

So...
dannylee-780824 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
That was the buildup for Nate turning his sides. I hated who he became as a character and I couldn't quite understand the writers for their choices but now it makes sense. We've had very few "real" antagonists as people in this show but having Nate as an adversary will be an interesting choice for S3

Overall, loved the show and it's own uniqueness.

Inverting Nate
christyrrice8 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Did Nathan Shelley just surpass Joffrey Baratheon and J. R. Ewing as the most hated television character of all time? It's a long time until next summer for season three, so I'll watch all 23 episodes again several times. Watching Nate flip to the dark side in time lapse should be interesting. Love this amazing show, Rupert and his new minion notwithstanding.

NATE!
brussek-436435 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I hate how Nate turned, I'm still grappling with it. His arc is written very well and very well acted but I wish it didn't happen.

I'm happy for Keeley and love her so much! I thought she was going to annoy me at the beginning of the show but she turned out to be one of the best female characters written for TV. Her and Rebecca! But I'm so worried for her and Roy's relationship.

Also, I could NOT stop laughing when the Ghanaian billionaire was waiting for Sam in the medical room with his assistant is in the background shaking hands with the learning skeleton! That scene was too funny and so subtle!

Worthy finale
idrincon13 October 2021
I am a huge fan of the series and I agree with many comments about how it radically changed from Season 1 to Season 2. Now it is way better! This is not your typical sitcom or comedy series full of cheap jokes or zingers. Ted Lasso has those and so much more. It is deep and troubling, it makes you like characters and hate them in the next episode. It never ceases to explore human nature and feelings.

That's why this season finale is brilliant. It closes the loop on many stories but opens up a whole new menu of possibilities. You already know Season 3 os NOT going to be a dud because there is still so much to explore based on where the story was left.

You typically have one cliffhanger. What about 6 or 7? Just brilliant.

Warning: Spoilers
Never thought that I would end up hating the club I support and love but here I am with a hatred of West Ham. Really looking forward for what is to come in season 3 and if Nate can be saved from his turn to the dark side. Overall a fantastic episode that leaves me wanting so much more next season.

Where one road ends another begins
dan_counts8 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I just have to say wow, just when you think the season finale was going to be maybe a strong 7 or 8, they come in and put on a master class on how to end a season and set the next one up. I think any school that teaches television writing should do a class just on Ted Lasso at this point and we're only 22 or so episodes into the run.

The good, closing up the entire Akufo storyline and how billionaires go absolutely nuts when they don't get their way. Jamie letting Dani have the spotlight with the PK. And Richmond getting promoted (of course).

The great is the way that they have morphed Nate's character so yes, he does have power now, but underneath it all, he's still the same sniveling person he was when he was the locker room attendant. It was driven even more to the point when Nate tells Roy about kissing Keely and Roy just outs and dismisses it, basically telling Nate, "You ain't in 'er league bruv."

I think with Nate taking over West Ham United in the series and it being owned by Rebecca's ex, if the real West Ham United comes to play in the states, they are going to be treated like Yankees at Fenway or the Cowboys in Philadelphia. Way to go Jason, you managed to turn all of the US against a EPL team that 99 percent of America doesn't know about!

But as much as they closed doors on storylines, they've set other ones up and can't wait to see what they do for season 3!

Nate is the Devil
scott_caufield19 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not much spoiling here if you've seen the previous episode....but Nate is the devil, and I shall refer to him as Natan.

This episode was great. Ted opens up, and is transparent with everyone about his struggles. He faces those struggles amidst a pretty massive betrayal too.

Way to end off the season, in more ways than one!
akj268 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Brilliant writing & directing. I love how often they bring back little sayings or jokes from the previous season and episodes. So well done. This episode deserves all the praise it's getting!

I love how every little scene and detail is important to the storyline. Like a few episodes ago when Ted was getting ready at home, the camera focuses on the picture Nate gave him, proudly sitting on his mantle. And then in this episode-Nate gets mad because the picture he gave him isn't in his office. He doesn't know, the show doesn't address it, but if you really pay attention you get so many of the little missing and unsaid details...just BRILLIANT!

Nate not so great
knzm-4991715 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Between the turn of Nate and the turn of the season I think the show has lost what was so uplifting about the first season which is about the contagious spirit if Ted Lasso. Nate is a forced villain and I don't like the way the season went because it was unnecessary to create drama. Let Ted shine and the show be a spot of relief from the shows today that have to be covered in cynicism. The brightest spot of season 1 was Teds lack of cynicism the show becomes nothing unique without it.

Finale Matches the Season
greg-beaulieu9 October 2021
Season 2 was a disappointing letdown compared to S1, so it is appropriate that the season finale was very much a letdown as well.

It is important to discount the usual avalanche of 10/10 reviews posted by hyper-fans, who overlook the flaws and missteps. There have been no episodes this season deserving of an objective 10 score in my opinion, unlike S1 which was brilliant. But scores aside, this episode personifies where S2 went off the rails. There was very little clever humour, though I did get a smile out of the biscuits made with salt and Rebecca's reaction, and Roy's postgame greeting for Jamie. But otherwise it was all quite serious. And of course Ted is still torturing himself over his divorce.

As predicted by others, Rupert did reappear as a team owner, and his whispered conversation last episode with Nate now makes more sense. The cliffhanger last episode regarding Keeley and Roy resolved itself only for another to be created at the last minute, almost as an afterthought, and quite clumsily at that. As for Nate, his speech to Ted near the end made no sense to me and made me think I had missed something. His reactions were very unrealistic and really stretched credibility. For that matter, so were Ted's after Nate spewed his vitriol. In any other world he would have been escorted out of the facility.

All in all, a disappointing close to a disappointing season, one that saw the series change from a warm, uplifting show to a largely unfunny soap opera trying to deliver rather heavy-handed messages. One hopes Sudekis and the writers will take the honest criticisms of how S2 went wrong and right the ship in S3, and not be deceived by the can-do-no-wrong opinions of the show offered by the superfans.

Great episode
giladeldor9 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the episode as a whole, it closes the storylines for the most part for the second season, and opens new ones for the next one.

I didn't really like the whole idea of a team winning 6-0 for the sake of the story because it's really really far-fetched, but it is an over the top show so I expected that.

I can't wait for Nathan to do good at West-Ham, then not so good, losing in a critical time to Richmond and then get sacked by Rupert and begging Ted for forgiveness in a time in the future of the show. That dude is really messed up.

No Proper Title To Describe It
nicholasschwarzbeck8 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I had a few titles in mind when I thought about writing this review. However, the episode says so much and it speaks for itself. Many people (including me at some points) thought that the second season would tarnish the reputation of the first. However, this episode proved me wrong in every way. Every loose end is tied up in one way or another and it set up what surely will be an even better third season. However, I have to address the elephant in the room. Nate the Great, the lovable introvert, turning into the big bad of the show is a surprising twist I wouldn't have guessed at the beginning of the season. I wouldn't have thought of a comedy show delivering such a big gut punch. However, I hope the show continues Nate's arc. This is my favorite Ted Lasso episode so far and one of my favorite television episodes of all time.

A return to form
hacobba11 October 2021
Parts of season 2 has seemed like a different show in many ways. The last two episodes of the season has seemed to got the momentum swinging back to the levels of season 1 again.

Overall season 2 was by no means bad, but when comparing to season 1 it fell a bit short for me on a few too many occasions. Overall season 1 would be a 9/10, while season 2 overall is about a 7/10.

Looking forward to what season 3 may bring.

Am I the only one who saw the similarities between how Mourinho was treated at Barcelona back in the days and how Nate was treated at Richmond?:D Even the appearance of Nate made some hints at the end.

Absolutely Refreshing and a Pleasure to watch
qcrxjc8 October 2021
I only wish the episodes were longer and that the season never ended. Jason Sudeikis is a genius in bringing happiness and heart to the screen. All the characters are well formed. They create instant family and you feel like you wouldn't want to have a beer with any one of them at any time. Even the antiheroes warm your heart. You never regret time spent watching Ted Lasso. I find myself watching episodes just because they make me feel so good.

Somehow this show keeps getting better
jcapitals9 October 2021
I'm not sure what the 'top reviewers' were talking about when they said that this season was worse than the last or went downhill. This season progressively got better. This finale was the perfect close to a wonderful season. The episode tugged on my heart strings, angered me, made me happy, and at the end so excited for the next season. Major props to Nick Mohammed on his brilliant acting this season.

Love it!
Mr_Heisenberg15 October 2021
Season Two of Ted Lasso has been a strange emotional roller coaster, a mixture of light comedy and heavy drama, with a bit boring start of the season. It's definitely different than season One, but I've grown to like it, and I'm not sure anymore which form of this storytelling one is better. It stared as a comedy but ended up like a drama.

The last episode really surprised me with it's ending. It was awesome! I think the writers did a good job building up story of Nate's twisted psyche. I'm looking forward for the next season.

Honest Reviews
rallder198 October 2021
I feel like this season dropped off a bit. Didn't feel the same love for it I did the first season. On that note, it's funny seeing all the different reviews, both good and bad. I feel like everyone that's been reviewing has a good point. Some people like the change of pace and others don't, but no one is really "wrong".. it all comes down to taste.

This season was surely more about the personal relationships between the characters whereas the first season was more or less about a dysfunctional crew of people that were trying to build a relationship as a team or trying to figure out where they fit in.

Does it make sense that the show would go in this direction? Sure.. I mean, by the end of the first season everyone had pretty much come together so having the second season be exactly like the first wouldn't make much sense. That being said, it is still vastly different from the first season so everyone's complaints and praises are pretty valid.

What I find funny is the fact that people pointing this out aren't wrong at all. Though some may have enjoyed it more, and some less, everyone here has got a point so.. had I never watched the show and came to this review section, nearly all the comments (bad and good) would be helpful in the decision to watch it. But I'm seeing all the more negative comments getting slammed by, I'm assuming, people who enjoyed it and don't want to hear someone's opinion who thought it was bad.. so they're just slamming the "not helpful" button.

The negatives and the positives are all pretty helpful, in my opinion. I didn't really like this season nearly as much as the first but I'm not going around putting a thumbs down on everyone's comment who liked it. As long as it's an honest review and not just someone badmouthing it without giving explanation, I'd say most of these comments deserve a thumbs up, even if you don't necessarily agree with them.

A solid finale to a great second season.
chrisholloway-359308 October 2021
I'm a little torn on the show's handling of Nate. I get what they're going for, but I'm a little unsure on the execution of it. But, other than that, this season has been great! This episode nicely ties a bow on a lot of threads, has some brilliant Ted Lasso sentimental-in-all-the-right-ways moments, and overall was just a fantastic, tightly packed and brilliantly written finale to what's becoming one of my favourite shows of all time.

Good but still disappointed
askeland8926 October 2021
I like season 2 as a whole and this was a nice way to wrap it up.

Yet I can't help but to feel a little disappointed. I was blown away by the first season, this one didn't have the same effect on me.

I really have nothing negative to say about this show, it's unique, funny, emotional, the acting is solid and the characters have a lot of depth.

In short: A decent season but in no way better than the first one.
