Lovely Old Gold.
ptb-815 December 2009
The US German co production is set around the 2008 Senior Citizen's pageant which showcases retired glamour-gals still in their talented prime... some dance, some sing, some flamenco and some clown around. Film maker Sabine Steyer has found a terrific locale (Cayman islands) and an ideal topic (singin' dancin' stylish old gals) to allow us to treasure our own Aunties by proxy. It is a delightful tribute to the effervescence of a life well lived. We follow 4 women unlike each other (each widowed or retired) who enter a quest that allows for talent and companionship to thrive. Active, funny and beautifully humane MS SENIOR SWEETHEART lets us all know what those rascally spry Seniors are up to while we are hard at work. Gorgeous locations, startlingly gorgeous older women (one jawdropping moment comes when one spectacularly beautiful woman admits she is 83) and some tough tales of bad marriages and health survival all add to a truly engaging and happy film about useful talent well and truly on display. The music soundtrack is hilarious and terrific and will stay in your head for days.
