Why is this episode being dissed?
shinedownlady6 February 2022
I enjoyed this episode! Vera is always a wonderful hour and a half of escapism, and it never disappoints. The acting is wonderful, and the script is well thought out. Plus, there was some lovely green scenery at the end of this episode, which is always a bonus! The show also proves that you don't need foul language to make a great series.

What Sunday nights were made for, glad she's back.
Sleepin_Dragon3 February 2023
Doctor Lucy Yo is attacked and left in a burning car, her husband is devastated by her death.

Finally, after a year if waiting, we get to see the remaining episodes from series eleven, and after some of the shocking Sunday night dramas we've had, the return of Vera couldn't have come quickly enough.

I am a little surprised by some of the negative reviews I've read, I can't say I could apply any of the comments to Vital Signs. I always enjoy Vera, but if there's one criticism I can sometimes make, it's pacing, sometimes they can be a little slow, Vital Signs wasn't, it was very well paced, and after a very dramatic and intriguing opening, it held my attention.

I enjoyed the moments of humour, Kenny's cake being the best of them.

The acting was on point, I thought Hugh Quarshie really stood out, and it was nice to see Jac having a lot more involvement.

8/10.

Same plots over and over
mardee-37 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've been binge watching Vera for the last several weeks, and it seems like most of the recent shows have had young adults as the killers. Someone's daughter, son, brother, sister. What is up with that? I'm getting tired of seeing these teenagers being arrested. Why doesn't Vera tell these kids that in many cases, they'll probably get off with a light sentence?

For example, in last week's show, the daughter who grabbed the bag that accidentally pulled her mom down the steps will not be charged with first-degree murder. Yes, she did hide the murder and that's probably the worst thing she did. But I would imagine she would get off with a very light sentence.

I'm also getting a little tired of Aiden playing the tough guy. And I really wish Vera would not keep taking other peoples food. I still like the show, and will continue to watch it, but these minor annoyances are getting to be a little irksome.

Innocent bystanders
DoctorStrabismus22 August 2022
We do always enjoy the customary fare from Vera, along with her current crew of Aiden, Kenny, Jac, and of course Malcolm (but the late-lamented Billy was an absolute stand-out). Some plots are more engaging than others, and of course it wouldn't be a mystery if it was the most obvious suspect wot dun it!

But usually we have a few 'innocent bystanders', mingling in there with all the dubious characters. We have people who knew the victim, but did no wrong. We see someone who may have disliked the victim, or maybe who stood to inherit, but had no hand whatever in their decease, and no guilty secrets. We even have people whom we find out have told the truth at all times!

There was no such person in this episode. Every single person in this entire nest of vipers had something to hide, or was complicit in covering for someone who did, and lied to Vera in order to achieve this goal. Every single person!

This became a major plot weakness, and I think only 6/10 is merited.

Vital Signs
Prismark1028 January 2023
More Vera for the new year and another round of surely Brenda Blethyn is too old to be playing the character.

This time my wife beat me to it. Bethyn will be 80 in a few years time.

A grisly murder has taken place. Dr Yo's body was found in a burnt out car. The pathologist believes that Dr Yo was still alive when the car was set on fire.

Dr Yo was believed to be a popular GP. However one patient was unhappy, holding her responsible for the death of her mother who had dementia.

Dr Yo, although married with a child was having an affair with the senior GP at the practice. Which explained the late night call outs.

The GP practice was also embroiled in drugs being illegally prescribed and Dr Yo was about to blow the whistle.

This is a story where everybody becomes a suspect, some several times over. It ends up going round in circles at time, as Vera revisits people she has already questioned.

It was a melodramatic ending with a touch of Spartacus. Almost everyone seemed to be owning up to the murder.

completely fell apart at the end

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't know where things were going to end up but I was following with rapt attention until the last ten minutes, where I saw the worst acting coupled with the worst writing of the entire series. The solution is not believable in any way. The overacting was even worse than when the man confessed at the end of episode 2 or 3--- when the social worker"s body was found in the woods. But that episode was overall poor. I'm rating this low because the weak ending was so jarring at the end of an episode I'd really been enjoying.

Such a disappointing episode!
Ddped5 February 2022
I figured out fairly early in the show who the killer was, ignoring all the distractors. But the ending did not seem believable. And when you kill someone or are a part of it and are not normally a cold hearted killer - you cannot be lacking emotion when hearing of the death and just go on with your life. Sorry this was just unbelievable with so much loss on many counts. Lives and families destroyed. And as if the child of the mother killed would not be asking where her mother was! A horrible episode and not sure how Vera did not say "come on , Luv, really?" And even agreed to do the episode. I love Vera but this was a waste of 90 minutes!
