Comedian Bill Bailey shines in yet another hilarious show, entertaining the public with a masterful combination of stand-up comedy, surreal observations and musical jokes. The roster of targets consists of everything and anything under the sun, from the opera "Carmen" to Indonesian phrasebooks. The unusually posh venue invites a number of good-natured swipes at the audience, which is supposed to be rich and stuffy. Bravely, Bailey even trips the light fantastic, for instance in order to explore a what-if-humans-were-like-birds scenario where the males need to lure the females through elaborate dawn dances. (I get the impression that quite a lot of blokes would prefer to spend their evenings drinking at the pub and their mornings recuperating in bed, thus ensuring that they would die childless but well-rested.)
The various acts include a number where Bailey accompanies himself on a 4-string Appalachian blues guitar - it was made from a Bible, so you know it makes a righteous sound - while singing about his cunning duel with the Prince of Darkness. Superb...
If you're unfamiliar with Bailey's earlier work, be sure to look up the "Black Books" comedy series, about the adventures of three misfits trying to navigate a sea of troubles. Much recommended !
