I'm absolutely diggin Salen!

Warning: Spoilers
The Good Doctor has gotten the shake up that it needed with the arrival of Rachel Bay Jones. They took the old corporate takeover storyline and went new age with it, but still with an undertone of ruthlessness. And I can't take my eyes off of RBJ. Her spark just propels a show that was getting old and stinky.

And that last scene with Shaun finally rings true to his condition.

And, as always, Richard Schiff was great.

Funny reviews!

I think it's great, in a way, that a bunch of commenters are giving low ratings for the behavior (acting!) of one of the CHARACTERS ... not the ACTOR. It means that Rachel Bay Jones is doing her job...and doing it Well.

Based on a true story?

Warning: Spoilers
It's an interesting story for the show, but the "reveal" is lacking because they based the story line on a real event. Abby's storyline was familiar to me; it was an episodes of "Unsolved Mysteries":

Patricia Stallings waswrongly convicted in 1991 for the murder of her son Ryan based on suspected antifreeze poisoning, and she faced life in prison. Subsequent testing revealed Ryan's death was due to methylmalonic acidemia, a rare genetic disorder. Stallings gave birth to another child during her incarceration, diagnosed with the same disorder, highlighting the miscarriage of justice in her case.

Stupid salen needs to go!

Warning: Spoilers
I would give "The Good Doctor" a 10-star review, except I'm already done with the character salen - I'm not capitalizing her name because I don't like her - dare to say that I *HATE* her!

*SPOILER ALERT*

She wanted a mother who had a C-section discharged immediately, when the hospital has a 48-hr policy? Really??!!!?!!?

She has no real medical knowledge, just wants the hospital to make money, and didn't ask for the valuable input of the doctors and nurses.

I'm continuing to watch because I love the other characters. I really like how Dr. Glassman called her out.

Hoping she dies on the show, or better yet, gets sued and put in prison! Then the hospital can get back to normal.

Used storyline

From the beginning of the pregnant woman's (Abby) storyline, I knew it sounded familiar.

I remember watching a movie in the mid 90's on Lifetime (originally on CBS) about a true story of a woman in prison convicted of killing her 1st son by giving him antifreeze and was about to have her 2nd child.

After she is rushed to the hospital in handcuffs and with an armed guard, she has her baby but isn't allowed to see him and is sent back to prison and her son is put into temporary foster care. Shortly thereafter, her newborn son is sick and rushed to the hospital and is diagnosed with the same symptoms as her 1st son. She wants to see her baby but her lawyer tells her it's the best thing that they are separated because they can't convict her of poisoning her 2nd son if they've been separated since he was born.

After numerous tests with no conclusions puzzling many doctors, lawyers, investigators, police and the judge, I believe it was a med student or professor that discovered that she couldn't have poisoned her 1st son with antifreeze because it breaks down by 50% every 30-60 minutes (not sure of exact #s) and for her to poison him she would have had to give him gallons of antifreeze to have the amount of the chemical element that mirrors antifreeze that was still in his system at the time of his autopsy. They figured it must be a metabolic or genetic disorder and dug up and tested her 1st son and tested her newborn 2nd son for the genetic disorder (which is passed on through the mother) and sure enough they both had it. She then also was tested and was positive.

The courts dropped all charges against her for her 1st son and released her from prison and returned her newborn 2nd son to her after treating him for the condition.

***The story on The Good Doctor was almost identical but I didn't see a husband or family supporting her AND the way the doctors discovered that it wasn't antifreeze poisoning but a genetic disorder. I don't know if someone writing the show copied this storyline or just happened to come across this genetic disorder by looking through medical textbooks or online, but there's got to be so many more disorders they could have done instead.

Ugh...this again

I'm pretty sure we had the whole "someone you will hate buys the hospital" storyline in House with Chi McBride.

Plus, I highly doubt that 1 person can dictate the ridiculous changes this 1 person does. Hospitals have boards for a reason.

Make her go away!

I gave four stars for the patient stories. I took away six stars because I can't stand that grinning jackal Salen. She acts like a smug know it all who is actually only right half the time. A medical drama gets its drama from the medical stories and the interpersonal relationships of the staff. They don't need a common enemy to up the drama to the point of antagonizing the viewers.
