Choppy Writing for the Kidnap thing
agentsofsword5 October 2021
Why did he not shoot the girl who recorded him. Why did he leave the cardoor unlocked?

If the writers were thinking it could've been a great episode and Maddie drama again I'm tired...

Fun

Really exciting at first, then it becomes not as good as you think about the plot holes. Not bad by any means, just not as intense as the episode wanted to be.

Surprisingly Dark, Intriguing Episode
AnimatedCritic5 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a lot darker and emotional than I thought it would be. This episode has a lot of emotional moments throughout the episode, most done well. The main plot was Harry getting kidnapped by Jefferey was a strong and captivating one. The ending was really satisfying, and resolved in a good way. The emotional moments between Athena and Michael were really well done, and hit very well. The main plot was captivating and emotional, overall, a great plot.

Some issues with the episode were the two final scenes, with Eddie and Maddie leaving their families. In Eddie's case, there was some good build-up, but the whole thing was a little underwhelming because Eddie and Ana don't feel totally like a actual couple. In Maddie's case, this just kind of came out of the blue. We knew that she's was struggling, but the idea of leaving her family was just surprising.

Overall, it was a good episode with many emotional moments, but the final scenes could've used more build-up.

Eh

Warning: Spoilers
The first two episodes of the season were so solid! Especially, after the entire 4th season was just not that great. This episode was kinda sloppy, full of inconsistencies and the whole reason for the kidnapping, was just. So. Dumb.

The only good thing about this episode and why I rated it a 5, is the Ana Eddie break-up which was a long time coming and wonderfully acted by Ryan.

Oh, Athena!

Warning: Spoilers
C'mon, you knew that Athena would save the day. And that Angela Bassett would look rocking while doing it.

I will miss Gabrielle Walsh as Ana. She's one of the hottest actors around. Smokin.

JLH is legitimately baby raising right now, so hopefully she comes back at some point.

Still trying to figure out why they made this huge deal about the blackout and then the power just came back. Huh?

And i'm so glad that the rapist story is over now. I want the focus back on my firefighters.

One extra star for Eddie ending thing with Ana. Finally. I won't miss her.

Poor writing
socrfan-801825 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The kidnapped kid gets out of the trunk and leaves it open. No. You would have closed the trunk so the kidnapper would think you were still in it. Writers taking the easy way out.

Kidnap

Warning: Spoilers
Can you imagine a real life kidnapping where the parents were laughing about the incident that caused the retribution? Ridiculous! In the next scene they were crying. Fire the writers or you will lose you fan base!

Let's hope this is the last we see of Maddie

Warning: Spoilers
Had already talked about this / JLH has no range whatsoever, her postpartum depression was a complete snooze fest and slowed the show to an almost unwatchable pace

Good riddance Maddie, may your character never return.

The Angle Bassett show should be cancelled.
RoverGuy6 October 2021
I started watching this show for the 9-1-1 calls to the fire house. Now it seems like it is all Athena, all the time, Peter Krause et al are supporting characters. Can we please go back to the fire house? Thank God that the black-out/kidnapping/rapist story line is done. Or is it? Funny how as soon as Harry was rescued the power came back on. Miracle of miracles! I guess the writers felt lazy and did not need to explain the blackout or how it ended.

I loved the first four seasons, this one not so much. At least Maddie is gone, if only temporary. JLH ruined Criminal Minds and is doing the same here.

Too much Athena, audios Maddie!
lisaaz-137556 December 2021
I really enjoyed this show for the first three or four seasons when it was about the actual fire station and how the team works to solve issues. However, this season 5 isn't looking so great. So much extra drama revolving around Athena, Maddie leaving the show (not fond of her acting in this show anyway) and seriously unrealistic storylines are making me wonder if I'll be wasting my time watching the rest of this season to see if the writers can pull this out of the downward spiral it seems to be headed towards.
