Ignore all reviews made after one episode
brackenridge-colin17 March 2023
Is this a masterpiece? No but it does build up with some potential. Is Sarah Michelle Gellar used to lure people in? Absolutely, but after that brief cameo in the first episode she is just as prominent a character as the four teenagers.

Yes this might be a teen drama at times, the main characters are in high school after all, but it is more palatable than Teen Wolf was.

If you are going to try this sit through until at least episode four. At that point the story really starts to play out and build up. Having watched the eight episodes I'm curious how much they wandered from the original book series by Edo von Belkam.

Don't prejudge this teen horror
amaryp7774 March 2023
I don't understand the amount of super low rated reviews. Most of the low reviews I've seen pre-judged the show and gave 1 star because it wasn't what they were expecting (I also noticed that many of them were written after the reviewer had only seen the premiere episode, which imo really does not give the show a fair chance). This is a teen show for sure. For people coming just for SMG, it is not the new Buffy, but that doesn't mean it's bad. The horror is on par with a lot of other teen shows that deal with supernatural/horror element, but it's definitely at a 13PG/14A level. I think the show has a lot of room to grow, which is a good thing. My only qualm is a want more SMG, but now that we're deeper in the season I think her role is definitely starting to expand.

Minor SPOILERS for Buffy fans: SMG's role in this show very much gives me the experience of a what-if scenario where an alternative dimension Buffy joined The Initiative for good and is using the arson detective role as an undercover tactic, cause there is 100% more to her character than we currently know at the ep. 6 mark.

Overall I'm interesting to see how the show /story evolves.

Get on with it
dwarol12 February 2023
Three episodes in, there's a lot to like about this series. The production values are high, and some of the visuals are stunning and a cut above what you expect to see in this kind of a series. Most of it so far takes place at night and it's some of the best night photography I've seen in a TV series. You have to wonder why a huge wildfire taking out the mountains in Southern California is necessary for the plot, but it's very moody.

But it's been too slow to the point of being a slog at times. Yes, we get it, there be werewolves out there. But what's the point of Sarah Michelle Gellar's character? How much does she know? How much does the twins' father know? Who's the mysterious voice on the phone and how does it know who the kids are (it's the dumbest part of the series so far)? How long are we going to spend on the same few nights around the fire?

At this point we need some answers. What is the werewolf doing when it tracks down the teens? Is it protecting its pack and why does it need to do something to them before the next full moon? Who is the werewolf when he's not a werewolf? How many of the teens on the bus were bitten? So many questions and at this point not many answers. Holding back the answers to try to keep the audience engaged can only go so far. Get on with it!

Entertaining. Ignore the bad reviews.
allipbay4 February 2023
There are obviously people posting on here who just enjoy giving bad reviews. No, this show won't win an Emmy anytime soon, but it's solidly entertaining. The special effects weren't bad, and while I won't give anything away, the plot line is promising if you're into the supernatural. For reference, I watched the first two episodes of the show.

I'm really not understanding the people coming on here to complain about the show featuring teenagers or about werewolf shows having been done before. Um, duh - these things were obvious from the previews and any write-ups of the show. If this isn't for you, why watch it?

My negatives are the super cheesy sex scenes and the actors - particularly Harlin and Blake - being a bit wooden. They're not acting Shakespeare, though, so it's not a huge deal.

Slow burner but worth it
bernadettemcgee12 March 2023
There are a lot of good things about this show.

The four core characters all have their individual personalities and issues that are very common among that age group but not always highlighted very well, so points for this.

The parental struggles of wanting to protect your children but not sure what to do and completely winging it.

Sara Michelle Gellar was my reason for giving this a go and I'm glad I did, her performance is great as is the rest of the cast and the storyline has a lot of potential so I hope the writers do it justice going forward. When I began watching I was on the fence and found it slow at first but I kept going and I was hooked by episode 4 and each episode since has gotten better and better.

Fan of the supernatural
suzihands28 January 2023
I am a huge fan of Werewolves & Vampires.

Been watching them for many years.

I am an over 60s woman who loves TV & Movies.

When I saw what this TV Series is about I could not wait for it to begin. I have watched all of the Buffy series' and all of the Angel series'. The Twilight Movies, True Blood and many others.

The premise of this huge wildfire awakening something in the forest, is great. Lots of blood and gore in the first episode during the wildfire and the wildlife fleeing for their lives.

The young actors do a great job and I am cheering for their characters' strength and survival.

I found Sarah's acting very stiff and her character very deceitful.

Her acting style hasn't changed much since Buffy but I am interested to see where this goes.

Looking forward to the next episode.

Not horror in the slightest. Stereotypical teen drama.
DeadMansTrousers27 January 2023
When I heard Sarah Michelle Gellar had a new horror show coming out I was excited to watch it. This however was an absolute struggle to sit through and is not a horror show whatsoever this is your stereotypical teen drama filled with brooding teens yelling at their parents, parties where numerous teens are hooking up, and the stereotypical strained relationships between the divorcee parent and their angsty child. Not only that but Sarah Michelle Gellar is doesn't even show up until 31 minutes into the 53 minute pilot and is only in the show for two short scenes. They use her name to lure people into watching this subpar show. The actors playing the teenage characters in this show seem like they have never acted before and are so wooden and void of emotions. I really wanted to like this show but it is not what they advertised it as and I can't recommend this at all.

A Pretty Good Series
reganjamesh27 April 2023
For starters I haven't watched the producers other series Teen Wolf outside of a few clips though unlike some I don't think Wolf Pack is meant to be a spin off of the other series though they do share similar elements.

Overall I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed Wolf Pack given the poor reviews from many online critics.

The acting was decent, nothing spectacular but then again I doubt this series is trying to win awards. It's just trying to be entertaining and it delivered on that front. The story was nicely done though I felt some of the things surrounding Sarah Michelle Gellar's character were quite obvious. Then again I think would be unlikely you'd cast SMG in a werewolf series and have her play a mundane investigator.

The special effects weren't the greatest (I wish more supernatural TV shows used more practical effects, especially ones featuring werewolves) but overall it wasn't too bad and I liked the mix between horror and teen drama and I liked how it took time for the pack to come together given there circumstances.

I felt that the pacing was good given that the show was only 8 episodes I didn't find the series boring. In fact I feel like they could have given the series at least 10 episodes to help flesh out the characters some more.

The series does end on a cliff hanger and it is far from a happy ending so I would like the show to have a second season to see what happens next.

EP1 - Promising, with a good premise and some potential
lmahesa27 January 2023
I liked this. The show features teenaged protagonists (who clearly aren't teenagers, but whatever) but is clearly not intended for an audience too young. The physical damage shown to individuals eliminates that, unless the US ratings board has completely lost the plot in that regard.

The acting was decent. The writing and direction managed to convey a lot in the single hour.

Keep in mind that this is episode one. Its purpose is to entice and draw you in, so I fully expect the pace to calm down in the next episode. I hope it doesn't though.

Shows take time to get their legs. So do directors, writers and actors. It has potential, and it has Buffy.

terribly written
david_w_gibson27 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Really hoping this was better seeing Sarah Michelle Geller in it, but the writing really sucks, especially continuity. They have houses burned in a fire, but all the trees and bushes around the houses are just fine, green as ever. And people get OUT of thier cars and a bus, because a herd of wild animals is running from said fire,so the people mostly get killed by the animals EXCEPT, which is maybe even worse than the stupidity of having them get out of their cars, the people the wolves attack, SURVIVE! But, now they get a warning that because they survived, the wolf that bit them is coming back to finish the job. So bad, it's lauable that a screen writer actually got paid to write it and that SMG would co star in it.

Slow start, definitely worth watching
twistedhair-1829724 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
First few episodes are slow to build on the story, may have been intentional.

Lots of twists in the last 4 episodes and can honestly say, I want to see more.

SMG was a pleasant surprise in the cast.

I watched it solely because it is about Werewolves.

I hope season 2 gets a green light, would be a shame to let it end here.

The cliffhanger ending is very well done and would like to see how the characters get reunited, or not, in the future.

Also the voice on the phone sounds extremely familiar to this Old School Horror / Science Fiction fan. I personally think it may be Robert England. If so then Great casting choice.

Has a great potential
moniliska-ml22 March 2023
Great teen/youg adult show. Has mistery , romance, action even a bit of horror in it.

Really liked the show and the characters. You get to like and care for them straight away. In most shows one annoys you like crazy bit here they avoided it almost completely.

One thing however ...I beg you less hallucinations.

I can't stand the weird reality where you have no clue what's what. If they were there for a reason fair enough but ....they weren't.

Obviously Sarah was great also new actors were very good. Luna had too much doll like makeup looked weird like a ghost. I hoped for something exactly this style.

Yikes. Made for tweeners only.
Xavier_Stone26 January 2023
Simple story and grade school dialogue, seriously only made for the teen crowd. Low budget cgi added to make it the perfect high school production.

I'm not sure what else to say, except that as a tv show starring and produced by SMGeller I expected more. As in, learn from your mistakes, what works and what doesn't. This is like the pilot of Buffy in the 1990's when campy dialogue was the norm.

If you're over 17 this is not for you, there's nothing of interest to anyone seeking actual drama or tension. Strictly made for teens, written by teens and starring teens. Absolutely shocking that SMG would attach herself to such a low budget, low value production.

As my teenager says, MEH
lesliekassinger17 February 2023
Full confession: I'm an adult and I like this show. The writing definitely needs some improvement, even for a teen drama, and it needs to progress a little faster than it is. They are really drawing out the first season storyline almost to a painful point.

And the CGI has been pretty cringe at times.

But there is so much potential in the concept and I'm hoping the writers and actors find their groove with it. While the concept of the show isn't anything new or earth shattering, it is a new-ish spin on an old storyline.

And I'm over the bull-headed teens. Two of them are almost impossible to deal with and most definitely on my nerves (but then I've met real life teens like that too). Bet they won't get a redeeming character arc until a cliffhanger season finale though... 😒

Werewolf fever
athenawishes27 March 2023
It's not the best werewolf show but it is a solid addition to the classic werewolf trope genre.

It is a good addition to the post teen wolf/vampire Diaries/Buffy the vampire slayer genre of shows that have all finished. Nothing wrong with a solid werewolf show that follows most classic mythological stories while adding a new, modern spin on it. There is also amazing lgbtqa+ representation without seeming overtly forced.

Also Sarah Michelle Gellar is iconic no matter the role, existed to see what a second season would add to the story, especially concerning Sarah and her relation to the 'pack'.

Lots of room to improve
mfuson777 February 2023
There are many things wrong with Wolf Pack, but there are also many elements that are off to a good start.

The dialogue is rough, not well written.

The CGI, is CGI - rarely is there good CGI.

The story draws you in, but the forest fire doesn't work beyond the opening sequence. Although the story is good in parts, other parts surrounding the forest fire make continuity and timing issues in the plot that just don't work. Frankly they did a horrible job with effects with a home that was "burnt" down only hours before, but just looks dirty. Probably to do with the budget.

Sara Michelle Geller, glad to see her again, but between the bad dialogue and the forced feeling of her character...well it's a character I would axe. The "monster" being perused by a pesky "hunter" has been done to death. I hope Wolf Pack goes a different route.

Overall, I'm enjoying it more than Teen Wolf, but Wolf Pack has to step up soon or face being a one season flop.

Written by a 5th Grader BAD!
J-Kidin1 February 2023
I had high hopes seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar attached. Unfortunately the first episode took almost twice as long to watch because we had to keep stopping to discuss what ridiculous poo we just saw. Bad acting, fairly bad FX, bad casting, Really bad story- but worst of all just insanely, over the top, horribly bad writing! What a waste of a wonderful actress like Gellar. Unless a bunch of mom's allow their 10-12 year olds to watch this garbage I don't see much of an audience for such badly written tween wolf drama. All those 10 star reviews have got to be written by friends or family of the cast of this show, actual 10-12 year olds, or people who can identify with tweens. I don't think this show will last very long. It's just that BAD.

From the writer of Teen Wolf series- the writing is actually good.
dgrant-764465 February 2023
Yes, some of the teens aren't consistently great actors and Sarah M. Gellar should have a bigger part, but this doesn't deserve all the hateful reviews. It follows the werewolf lore, which isn't the same as trite or unoriginal. What the fire or 14 year lapse between fires triggering the attacks is about is a unique idea. I'm a full grown adult and I loved teen wolf, so I'm confident that, after only ONE episode, which I enjoyed, this show will undoubtedly only get better. Hopefully, the directors will do a better job at coaching the one lead that is not always on point with his acting. I recommend it to Sci-Fi lovers.

Horrible cgi
josephbannister17 February 2023
The show itself is moderately decent and as a days the common theme of woke is incorporated and that's fine but the show is suppose to be about werewolves .. yet its taking forever for anything to occurr. Hopefully it picks up on the pace and we get some decent action scenes but come on its 2023 how is it the cgi is literally the same as buffy from back in the early 2000's . Sarah michelle gellar is a good pick for the role but come on pick up and go somewhere and fix the cgi.dont think im bashing on the show because the actora are pretty good and well suited for tgeir roles it's just it's taking forever for it to get the main plot to move forward.

Just no
Rastifan31 January 2023
If you are looking for a boring teen drama pretending to be a horror show, here it is. No amount of Sarah Michelle Gellar is going to save this. The script is dull, acting bad and the dialogue reminds you of a school play. I think Gellar's name was used to lure people into seeing this. And as for most of the teen Hollywood shows, it is painfully predictable. I had a hard time staying focused as I wanted to give it a fair shot. It was instead a waste of time. This type of shows fail again and again and they do not seem to learn. People want good writing, a compelling story and good actors who can carry it, not a simplistic screen filler with no soul or substance.

Get past the first episode
tiffaniehughes-0561828 March 2023
First episode, I wasn't sure I was going to continue on. However, I was bored enough to watch the second episode and then follow on through till the end. Even though it is a teen driven show I loved the slow burn of the relationships. Nothing is the instant love or gratification that we often see in teen flicks and it's kept me wondering how the villain will be revealed. The acting is to be expecting with young inexperienced and the boys are a little too good looking for reality but I love the adult actors. Rodrigo and Sarah Michelle are awesome. Worth the watch. It is dark and moody but entertaining nonetheless.

Love supernatural
krissyw-0847020 February 2023
I love super natural it's so hard to find good shows. Supernatural is really under rated and there isn't alot to choose from. The show has a great story line honestly. It does keep you asking questions wanting to know more. The scenes are great quality. Camera quality is on point. The only thing I wld say is an issue is the acting isn't as great as it could be like I like to feel like the actors are really in the stuff that is happening and it feels like something is missing. The show is good I just think it could be alot better so hopefully by season 2 the acting will be on point I honestly hate over drawn acting and scenes.

Wolf Twilight Zone
Grey2black20 February 2023
To think that MTV would fail so big at making a TV shown about Werewolves, when back in 2011 they made the very successful and well done Teen Wolf.

This show does have some good points.

  • Each new werewolf only seems to have one ability except when the pack comes together.

  • They're betting more in creating a mystery around the whole thing, instead of having a character that already has most of the answers. Even those more well informed, know very little in terms of facts, and more about the myths.

As for negative points...
  • The cast is mostly too green and it shows. So far I've found the characters Everett, Blake and Harlan to be painful to watch. These characters are too emotional about everything, and instead of dealing with their feelings and emotions they just keep it buried, which leads them to make mistake or dumb decision on a regular basis.

The only exceptions are Kristen, Garrett, Luna and Prisha. These are the only actors and actresses that show some constraint, that show more than one emotion, and are truly interesting.

  • The story has mistakes after mistakes, holes inside holes.

  • The story is too predictable when it comes to what the characters are going to do.

  • Some things you see happening and you just can't stop but see the absurdity in it all. Like, a fully turned werewolf enters into public places and no one sees or hears anything. No one questions what made that kind of damage. And the answers offered are made with zero reasoning behind it.

  • The hallucination scenes are becoming too recurring, to the point you already know you're watching an hallucination.

All in all the show could be doing very well, but it isn't because unlike with Teen Wolf they obviously didn't bet in the right actos this time around. Also the writing team is either too inexperienced or they think the people watching the show have such a low IQ, they can't see when something makes absolutely no sense or logic.

Only three episodes in and this show is already losing me as viewer.

Where Teen Wolf was intriguing, well written, well acted, well paced, and well balanced. Wolf Pack is none of those things.

A Teen Werewolf Show
tinkkytone31 March 2023
Wolf Pack is an MTV production, but I didn't realize that at first because I wasn't paying attention. I was interested in this because of Gellar, and I thought this would be a supernatural show with an adult bent. It is not. This is a teen show since the lead actors are portrayed as being in high school, and since this is an MTV production they curse, party, and use drugs freely. There are also a lot of mid drifts, navels, and bare chested young men because this is set in California. Gellar and Santoro are serviceable in their roles. They are the adults, but the focus is on the kids. Initially the show starts off like any supernatural teen show, but by episode five it changes into a teen horror show that actually delivers some nice scares. There is some mystery as to what is going on, but I figured it out fairly quickly by episode three. It's not really hard to figure out. Overall, I enjoyed this for what it is. It's only eight episodes at 50 minutes, so I finished this in a couple of days. If you like this kind of show then you will enjoy it, and if you like MTV shows you will love this. I finished all eight episodes, and if there is a second season I might check it out.

6/10.

It got good about half-way through
andrew_etheredge22 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you have no analytical ability, you will think this is a "teen drama" with a supernatural skin. It's not. Despite the character's ages, they gave a solid hint that this was more hardcore when they brutally and graphically murdered some kids in the first episode.

Is it a "diversity" cast? Yep. It's the standard fair of many modern shows. You have to cram as many social issues into characters as possible, but nothing felt heavy handed or preachy. It's basically, "This dude is a gay raver." "That kid has mental issues." "The extremely attractive girls somehow are social loners or outcast."

Anyhow, the story picks up at lot around episode four. It's kind of a slow reveal mystery. So if that is too slow burning for you, then it may not be your show.
