Friday the 13th hottie America Olivo has been cast to play Frank's mother opposite Elijah Wood in the upcoming remake of Maniac. How can she play the mom to an actor who is only three years younger than her? Acting! Well, and she will be appearing in flashbacks. More after the break. Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) is writing and producing this remake of the 1980 William Lustig trash classic, with Franck Khalfoun (P2) directing. In Maniac, Wood plays a schitzophrenic young man who kills women brutally and randomly as a sort of revenge against an abusive childhood at the hands of his mother. Others in the cast include Sal Landi (Poe, A Crack in the Floor) and Morgane Slemp (Hostel III). News of...

Elijah Wood ('Sin City', 'Happy Feet 2') has been snapped on the set of horror remake 'Maniac' being...well a maniac! Wood stars in the Franck Khalfoun ('P2') helmed redo of William Lustig's slasher flick from 1980 and plays antique mannequin salesman and deranged murderer Frank Zito. In the new on-set pics you can see Elijah giving some poor young lady (played by Genevieve Alexandra) a good old fashioned stabbing with his buck knife. Khalfoun has previously stated that the movie would be shot largely from Zito's point of view and of course a horror remake wouldn't be official if it didn't have Alexandre Aja attached. Aja, responsible for helming remakes 'The Hills Have Eyes', 'Mirrors' and 'Piranha 3D', will produce and also co-wrote the new script along with Gregory Levasseur. French actress Nora Arnezeder ('...

Okay, so this week we have covered the "Top Five Indie Horror Films," with an article found here: Best Indie Horror Films of 2010. Also covered was the "Top Five International Horror Films." An article on this posting is here: Top Five International Films. But, now we are exploring a more depraved side of horror, or a lower class of film. This top five list will cover the "Worst Five Horror Films of 2010!"
This year, there was so much to choose from in poor horror films. Abroad, we have the dismal Basement starring Danny Dyer and Jimi Mistry to the absolutely monstrosity of a film from Australia called Outback aka Prey starring the incapable Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Domestically, films like the Zombie Chronicles: The Infected made this reviewer want to scratch his eyes out, while others like Apocalypse of the Dead aka Zone of the Dead made one reach for the off button with lightening like reflexes.

Poe Movie PosterDirector/writer: Francis Xavier.
Metropolis Pictures Entertainment is the production company behind the independent thriller Poe. The film creates some loose connections between the character Jonathon Poe (Stelio Savante) and the famous American writer Edgar Allan Poe. This picture was recently completed in June and the film also stars Felissa Rose, David Fine, and Gene Silvers. Poe makes a bloody mess with a cannibalistic theme while the low production values and poor acting threaten to torpedo Poe's ship.
The film begins with Jonathon Poe being propositioned with a biography from an agent and part-time girlfriend. After some humming and hawing Poe takes on the job only to find himself in an orgy of mutilation, disfigurement, and murder. You see, Dr. Andrew Casey, Poe's subject, likes to make meat and hamburger out of the local prostitutes and wannabe actresses hanging out around Hollywood. Enter a moral dilemna...

"The film follows formerly acquitted and rehabilitated criminal Dr. Andrew Casey (David Fine), who relocates to Los Angeles under the alias Jack Conway, aka 'The Chef'. Conway and his butler, Mr. Peeples (Mike Iorio), establish a respected soup kitchen/charity, 'The Help Feeding Foundation', which lures the likes of actresses and models under false pretense.
The women are in fact obtained to satisfy Casey/Conway's culinary tastes. He handpicks respected writer Johnathon Poe (Stelio Savante), descendant of famed writer Edgar Allan Poe, to immortalize him in the form of an autobiography. Poe is intrigued by Conway and his lucrative offer and agrees to the assignment.

Dread Central recently caught up with writer/director John Skipp during the Never Sleep Again event this past weekend and talked to him about his brand new project he has coming up, Rose. The creator describes the project as "a freaky shot-in-3D feature with a radically whacked-out approach to the undead. Call it Pee Wee’s Playhouse meets Night of the Living Dead".
Skipp went on to say, “Rose is a super-hot, hilarious ex-mental patient with a cable access puppet show in downtown La. But now it’s 48 hours into the zombie apocalypse so she’s running rescue stations and musical numbers round the clock, trying to keep people’s hope alive…and periodically pausing to pulverize the skulls of the zombies trying to bust down her door.”
The movie introduces sexy newcomer Chase McKenna as the machete-juggling, shotgun-toting, corset-sporting gonzo comedienne with a secret that just might save the world.

#1: RZA talks “Iron Fist”
We already knew that multi-talented artist RZA was writing and directing a martial arts genre mash-up titled Iron Fist. Admittedly around these parts we’re pretty big fans of RZA and excited to see what he’s got to offer but if this recent interview with La Times is any indication, there’s good reason for it too. In the mix is Tarantino who appears to be a great influence to the musician turned director, Eli Roth who, love him or hate him, knows what he’s doing, and Jim Jarmusch. Can’t wait until we finally have some footage.
#2: ”Damn Nation” adaptation in the works
Comic book adaptation aren’t going away. Thankfully for us the studios are starting to dig through some of the fringe titles. The newest kid on the block is Andrew Cosby’s “Damn Nation,” which takes place in...

There's no question. We all love, appreciate, and revel in the incredibly dark body of work presented to the masses by one of the most macabre and important writers of our times, Edgar Allan Poe. But -- have you ever wondered just what would have happened if his bloodline continued?
That's exactly the subject we will be examining with Francis Xavier's latest horror film, Poe, which starts shooting in Los Angeles this January. Check out the early artwork and details below courtesy of the official Poe website.
Early Synopsis
