New year, and a host of new Netflix additions to match.
While subscribers are currently mourning the loss of Friends – after going dark today, January 1st, the beloved sitcom won’t be available until HBO Max arrives in May – Netflix has today rolled out a bevy of fresh TV shows and movies to keep us entertained, including some truly unmissable horror properties.
From Event Horizon to Cloverfield, The Amityville Horror to the Tremors franchise, Netflix’s horror category has officially been restocked. There’s plenty to choose from, too, including the 2002 rendition of The Ring, which only makes us long for a competent retelling of the Japanese horror legend to right the wrongs of Rings (2017). At least we have the upcoming Grudge reboot to look forward to on Friday (or January 24th if you happen to be located in the United Kingdom).

Tearing up the rulebook, Kane and his crack team of law enforcers storm the city streets to clean out the drug barons by any brutal means necessary.

Ghost Trek: The Kinsey Report: “Do you ever watch those ghost hunting shows and scratch your head, thinking to yourself, “These shows are so ridiculous. Why am I watching this?” Well, Ghost Trek creator, Michael Plumides sat through marathon episodes of paranormal reality TV one Christmas and came up with a comic-horror concept called, Ghost Trek, which takes a swipe at the whole genre – with you in mind.
Ghost Trek follows the Paranormal Underworld Detective Society (Puds) as they investigate haunts across the U.S. and abroad between tanning beds, babes, body-building, and bong hits — all the while risking life and limb capturing the undead and unexplained on video.

If you were disappointed that neither Steven Seagal nor "Stone Cold" Steve Austin made an appearance in The Expendables 2, you'll be happy to know that they've gone and made an action flick of their own called Maximum Conviction. Sure, it's a direct-to-dvd piece of crap, but hey, what did you expect? The movie is directed by Keoni Waxman, the same guy who did the previous Stone Cold starring vehicle Hunt to Kill. As you can probably guess, it looks pretty bad although the non-existent chemistry between Seagal and Austin is almost so terrible it's sublime. Maximum Conviction hits DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 6th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Born To Fight
Stars: ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Daniel Magder, Jaren Brandt Bartlett, Janet Kidder, Emma Grabinsky | Written by Evan Jacobs, Jack Nasser | Directed by Anne Wheeler
Former WWE superstar ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is back with Born To Fight, aka Knockout, another direct to DVD movie for producer Jack Nasser, who both previously worked together on Damage, The Stranger and the awesome Hunt to Kill. Besides producing Nasser also co-writes, with Evan Jacobs (Doughboys), this Karate Kid-esque underdog story of a nerd who learns to box, get the girl and beat the high school bully.
So far so Karate KId right? Well yes and no. Born To Fight does follow the now typical beatdown, train, fight, win formula that was made famous by Mr. Miyagi and co. in the 80s, but it has a lot, and I mean a Lot, in common with the underrated 90′s action movie Showdown,...

The Film:
My old school wrestling buddies should know how infinitely bad-ass “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is. Note how I didn’t say was. He might have been underused in The Expendables, but his fight with Stallone was great. It shouldn’t take too much to convince a producer to build an action film around Austin, and that’s what has been happening for a few years now. Damage. The Stranger. Now Hunt to Kill. Low-rent action films for that late night boredom, but Hunt to Kill is barely passable even at 1am.
Sure, the film is derivative of a thousand other derivative action films, but what kind of kills it centers around the lack of bad-assness. Austin really isn’t the film’s focus, despite his lead name and face plastered on the cover. We follow some idiotic robbers who have just “pulled off the perfect heist” yet one...

Well 2010 is almost over and it’s time for my obligatory Top Ten of the year. As with last year I’ll be compiling two movie Top 10’s – one cinematic releases and one direct to DVD list. Why? Well the majority of movie sites and blogs give credence to all the big releases of the year but, as I try to do all year, I want to highlight some films which you might have missed that you really should hunt down and watch.
This list is completely subjective, and you may not agree with any or all of my choices or the order in which they appear. Either way I’d love to read your thoughts on my choices good or bad, so don’t forget to leave a comment. Anyway, onto the list:
10) Hunt to Kill
Jim Rhodes (“Stone Cold” Steve Austin) is one bad ass Border Patrol Agent.

Deadly Crossing
Stars: Steven Seagal, Gil Bellows, J. Anthony Pena, Kyle Cassie, Warren Christie, Michael Eklund, Meghan Ory, Peter Graham-Gaudreau, Sarah Lind, Emilie Ullerup | Written by Steven Seagal | Directed by Keoni Waxman
When an influx of violent and ruthless heroin dealers descend on Seattle, Elijah Kane (Steven Seagal) leads an elite undercover squad of cops to bring them to justice. Tearing up the rulebook, Kane and his crack team of law enforcers storm the city streets to clean out the drug barons by any brutal means necessary.
Let’s clear something up from the outset – Deadly Crossing is actually the pilot movie for Steven Seagal’s new television series Southern Justice, aka True Justice (as it is billed on the title card of the movie) and was originally titled Russian Crossing. This straight to DVD release from Optimum Home Entertainment resurrects the old VHS tradition of debuting Us television series...

There's plenty of stuff hitting DVD and Blu-ray today, some of it "game changing", and some of it not so much. The two major new releases this week are Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (trying to make up for its weak theatrical run) and Adam Sandler's Grown Ups (simply adding to its coffers), but we've also got Charlie St. Cloud starring Zac Efron, Beverly Cleary's Ramona and Beezus, and Love Ranch starring Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci. For the more adventurous, Criterion unleashes Lars Von Trier's controversial Antichrist on DVD and Blu-ray, and the large assortment of television releases include Season 1 of BBC's Sherlock, the third seasons of Californication, The Boondocks and Metalocalypse, and a 25th Anniversary Collection of The Golden Girls that comes in Sophia's purse! Amazing. What will you be buying or renting this week? Scott Pilgrim vs. The World [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) Grown Ups...

The generic title is sort of beautifully awful, but the best worst thing about the movie -- apart from the former pro wrestler who stars -- isn’t even mentioned in the hilariously histrionic product description: When Jim's (Steve Austin) teenage daughter is kidnapped, he's forced to lead a band of ruthless killers into the wilderness to retrieve their share of a missing heist score. In order to rescue his daughter, Jim must use his unique brand of survival skills to outsmart the kidnappers before it's too late. Hunt To Kill is an action packed adrenaline rush about a man operating on his most primal instincts to save the one thing he's willing to die for - his daughter. Oh, for sure the “woman in peril” angle is cringeworthy. (Need to motivate a badass? Threaten his female property.) But what’s awesome that isn’t mentioned is that tough-guy Jim is a Border Patrol Agent.

Wow! This is one of the lightest weeks in recent memory for horror title releases on DVD and Blu-ray. But that's fine because after the rush in October, we are still trying to catch up on watching all of those flicks.
This week we have the very controversial and disturbing Antichrist from Lars von Trier, which spawned a Nsfw Motion Picture Purgatory from Rick Trembles. Stephen King's new novel and Call of Duty's new edition, Black Ops (with Zombie mode), also drop, and Steve Austin joins the fray along with Tremors' inevitable Blu-ray release.

Whenever we’re presented the chance to speak with wrestler-turned-actor Stone Cold Steve Austin, we here at Dread Central jump at the opportunity since he’s one of our all-time favorite ass-kickers. And even though Hunt to Kill isn’t necessarily horror, it is an action-packed thriller with great kills, dark characters and some seriously badass fight sequences that would interest anyone who relishes a good, gritty action flick.
For Austin, the role of Jim Rhodes (a Border Patrolman working near the Canadian Border who has a keen sense of the wilderness) came very naturally to him.
“I love being in the outdoors to begin with so I was really in my element with Hunt to Kill,” explained Austin. “All the deer hunting and Jim using the bow was me throwing in my creative two cents to my character. Honestly, I’m very much like the guy Jim is so...

Director Keoni Waxman has carved out quite a niche for himself in the direct-to-video action movie market, working with such genre luminaries as Steven Seagal and Dolph Lundgren. He’s not trying to make great art, he’s trying to make entertaining action films that kick a little ass. His latest, “Hunt to Kill”, is almost there. This time around, Waxman teams up with former professional wrestler turned movie tough guy, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Austin is great at one thing, being hard and scary. In movies like “The Expendables” and “Damage” he pulls off a pretty awesome, believable, badass. He has the size and the don’t-fuck-with-me scowl, and though he’s not a slick, highly trained fighter, his I’m-bigger-stronger-and-badder-than-you style harkens back to a time when an action hero could get away with being just a brawler. That’s what Austin’s good at. What he still...

Hunt to Kill PosterFormer pro-wrestler Steve Austin is making the transition from the theatrics of the wrestling ring to cinema smoothly with appearances in smaller independent films to blockbusters (The Stranger, The Expendables). In his latest feature, Austin will not be the heel, but the hero as character and border agent Jim Rhodes. Rhodes might be an allusion to the famous wrestler Dusty Rhodes; however, this latest Anchor Bay production will give Austin the chance to use some of his physical acting, as the first trailer for Hunt to Kill shows. All the details on this project are below.

It’s got guns, explosions, one-liners and Jason Statham at his ball-deflating best. The Expendables is pure action geek heaven, says Duncan, in our second review...
Now, since Simon has already written an articulate critique of The Expendables, I'm going to take this opportunity to be a little less professional.
The Expendables is, to my action movie eyes, awesome. It's like some kind of fevered dream, a surreal out of body experience, which I still can't believe happened.
My critical facilities were going to be no use to me when watching the film, for the simple reason that, albeit briefly, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger share the screen.
Everyone knows that fact by now and I feel bad for stating the obvious, but it really is an entire reason for The Expendables to exist, as it fulfils a moment in movie history that I have been waiting decades for,...
