I felt slightly disappointed.
Sleepin_Dragon30 May 2022
A blood soaked woman walks into a Police Station, holding a knife, the Investigating Detective holds some important, personal information for Simone.

The history theme continues, only this time it's Simone's history that's being explored, I thought Genesis Lynea was good, but the story felt too contrived, and her scenes with the Detective were below par.

If I'm honest, I was a little disappointed with this, I was genuinely blown away by the opening two episodes from this series, this was nowhere near those levels, it felt a little pedestrian. A shame the focus went away from Sam.

Duncan Preston, I'm a big big fan, but I thought he was miscast here, the accent seemed to travel about a bit I thought, I wasn't convinced.

The shining light for me was Christine Bottomley, who really was a cut above, her scenes were a cut above.

Did anyone else adjust their screen when it went black in the restaurant?

I think my expectations were too high after last week, this was just about average, 6/10.

A woman walks into a police station ...

Last time was excellent, raising my expectations for this which may have contributed to my disappointment. The case of the day is derivative, dull and predictable, the season arc plotline is inched forward and only confirms what we already knew.

The main issue with this episode is the plastic interaction between DI Campbell (back to bungee drop cops) and Simone. It is entirely contrived with dreadfully written dialogue and presents Simone as an immature, selfish child. Frustratingly, Genesis Lynea has regressed to her standards from last season following her excellent performances last week. It is unclear if this is a problem with writing or delivery.

A weaker instalment, hopefully rectified tomorrow.

Writing seems to have changed.

There seems to be a lack of precision that I used to expect. In the past apparent inconsistencies, typically plot issues, but also sometimes errors in behaviors (eg.: something done that one knows makes no sense) would be addressed as the story continued. Now it is as if they think the viewer is too stupid to notice.

Whether it is plot, theme, or dialogue, just throwing in unanswered questions or strange exchanges as if that automatically makes things more interesting I think is a mistake.

Complexity is essential, but it looks to be less a matter of complexity and more a matter of carelessness or sloppiness.

Dialogue dreadful

Very disappointing with episodes 3 script, awful dialogue and acting, not up to usual standard. I can only assume script writer has changed, for the worst, cringeworthy in parts, it's such a shame.

How was this so awful???

I have loved this show. There are good and bad episodes, for sure, but in general I've enjoyed the majority of the previous 24 seasons. Actually, as a pathologist myself I have appreciated that most of the medical part, at least in more recent years, is relatively accurate and well done (with leeway for TV, like timing of results). Obviously the scope of practice/behavior of the forensic pathologists is ridiculous, but it's TV.

Anyway, the first two episodes of this season were fine. Not great, but good enough. I have no idea what is up with Sam, whose current character is nothing like the original character. But I just enjoy this show for the basic entertainment value; I can forgive a lot.

This episode? Absolute and utter trash. The acting is awful (unfortunately, the teenage girl is possibly the worst). The script is awful. The camera work is beyond awful. The murder itself is uninteresting and the usual intrigue is just missing.

Shocked by the quality of this episode. What even happened here?
